Bitcoin will start to rally when China wants it to. And not a moment sooner.
I still have a lot of crypto. But nothing like I used to. I think I got a little excited with the diversification side, and took a bath on several.
I will not be getting rid of any of my xrp though. From an Institutional investment perspective that is the strongest one because it still has the most support on the institutional side.
It is not a coincidence that the tariffs coming has led to a serious decline in the price of Bitcoin though. I have little reason to believe at this point that Bitcoin is not uniquely tied to the Chinese government. Their experimentation with decentralized currency showed them how easily decentralized currency can be manipulated. And I thank them for the experiment. Because it did a world of good for me personally and put me in a position to do things that I previously could not do.

Crypto time? Didn’t even realize BTC jumped up. Where are Vale and Tony? 1 bitcoin is worth 12 grand. What gives a bitcoin value? What backs it? But how do you spend a bitcoin? If I had a bunch of bitcoins, could I buy a house with them? Would the bank take bitcoins as payment? Or would I have to wait for the dollar to collapse before I could spend them? Sorry, I'm a bit of a bitcoin noob.

There are things you can purchase with Bitcoin or other crypto currencies. I am far from an expert. You can easily sell your bitcoin for most any currency or USD and then purchase it. You could for instance, transfer money or purchase things internationally with very little regulatory flack.

Gold is valuable because it's a precious metal. Non currency items like weed are valuable because you smoke them/use them. Bullets are valuable because you can shoot them. If the government didnt exist, then food itself would become currency. Seeds, grains and farm animals etc. Physical application seems to typically dictate a currency's value. So what gives bitcoin and crypto currency its value? I understand that it can currently be traded for real cash. But at one point in time, the same could be said about pogs. Just some theoretical questions, I suppose.

The dollar hasn't been backed by gold since before I was born. The dollar has value because people accept it in exchange for goods. Bitcoin has value for the same reason.
I'm certain there's a fuckton more to it than that, but I ain't no economist.

I could be vert wrong...but im thinking that bitcoin is not going to ever inflate to the prices it once was at. I was pleasantly surprised at the small rebound from 6 months or so ago...but dont expect much from this point forward

I've been thinking about a thread like this for a bit and the investment talk in the Trump thread spurred this. I'd love to talk investment ideas with the great people of this board. I'm barely above beginner level at investing. I'd say this thread would include retirement investment tool conversations (401K, Roth IRA, HSA as retirement savings, Simple Plans for self-employed) as well as individual stocks, ETFs, etc. It has been a pleasant couple of months for those with something in the game. The only downside I have is that I keep pretty strict on filling up tax advantaged investing first so I haven't had as much to invest in my other accounts yet this year. Therefore, while my stocks are mostly up, there is a healthy dose of individual stocks and ETFs on my as yet to invest in Watch List. That list includes Aerospace funds, I think that is intuitively pretty straight forward based on increase defense spending by the USA (and hopefully our NATO friends start to pull their weight). One move I did make was purchasing some ICLN. I believed that it was a little depressed based on the impression some people may have about "Green Energy" being in big trouble under Trump. I don't think that will prove to be the case in the long run and measured investments in this arena could prove to be a value right now. **Again, my investment thoughts are just above idle rambling, so take with caution and feel free to destroy. I wouldn't say we should get heavily in to stock story telling about the winners we picked (not that its a bad thing) but I'd like to hear ideas that other people have on here. Pump it up. Stonks? Who's in? I happened into some AMC a while back so I can't claim to have know what was happening. I am certainly interested now though.
