So what happened between the end of Prometheus and the beginning of Alien: Covenant? This:

Man, Stephen King wrote a LOT of book. Some might say too many.
Alien: Covenant (Prometheus II) comes out in 2 weeks.
Here is every trailer put into one tight clip (3 min):

I am beyond excited for this movie, The Dark Tower is my favourite book series. This will be the first time I've gone to a movie theatre in like 5 years.

my only fear with the dark tower is that in these types of movies, the kid gets too much play. keep his role as minimal as possible and this could be a great flic. i realize the kid is technically a major character, but it would be easy to overplay him.

I get what you're saying. Especially with how Jake's arch in the story goes, if they do end up making more movies it will be interesting to see how they handle it (Don't want to get all spoilery here) My biggest concern is the Detta story line, clearly they have to make some major changes there and not sure how they are gonna pull it off. Either way, I love the stories so much that I'm just excited that they are finally attempting this. The way King ended it gave them a perfect excuse to tinker with the story to make it more movie friendly.

Guess I'm behind on trailers because 2/3 of that was new filmage for me. Looks like a gritty, back to the roots effort injected with some steriods, then spliced with the good that came out of Prometheus. I mean, I'm prepared to be disappointed and that's ok, but I'm gonna go ahead and let myself expect something amazing despite some red flags here and there.

Early reviews for Covenant are not looking good. One quote that sums it up it seems...
"Covenant looks pretty but plays like a dull retread of the 1979 original, abandoning Prometheus' promise."

Lah da dah, Lah da dah,
I can't wait to see Alien: Covenant!
It should definitely capture the wonder and bewilderment of Prometheus while being much more practical!!
Oh boy! Can't wait!

The reviews I've read are not that bad, but I do have some concerns going in, mostly because I'm hearing some of the same issues we saw with Prometheus, namely: character motivations and decisions and jarring injections of humor. This is precisely where Prometheus fell short. So, there is some anxiety about that and I've heard it from two sources at this point. However, I've also heard, including from those same sources, that the film overall is really solid and probably the 2nd or 3rd best film in the Alien franchise. Crudup, Fassbender, and McBride are excellent. The world-building is classic Ridley: phenomenal and wondrous. The story is dark, unrelenting, and violent. And we get a true merging of the story arcs with Alien and Prometheus coming together in one film and starting to answer some of the bigger questions of origin, purpose, etc. I remain hyped but expect to find some flaws, as with most films, but didn't we already expect that coming in? I mean, barring the original, which Alien universe film isn't riddled with cliche and unrealistic sci fi garbage?

Getting hyped about what looks like an interesting WW flick.
Simply cannot get over the Gosling casting in Blade Runner. Fuck that guy.
Alien: Covenant came out over the weekend in the UK and more mixed reviews are pouring in. Sounds a lot like Prometheus in terms of the critiques. Bad dialogue, illogical timeline, illogical character actions and motivations, somewhat predictable and flat character development . . . with glorious visuals and creatures and world building and hints of profound story line that leaves you feeling conflicted and very love/hate, yet again. So what we've seen (assuming reviews are accurate) is back-to-back flicks now that show Ridley has a phenomenal eye for spectacle, landscape, mise-en-scene, but that the writing is cliche and poor and difficult to get into with these generic, unrealistic characters just fumbling through the world we've built like a college kid in a dip shit 90s slasher flick.

I heard there was some backlash about the cowboy being played by a black dude. I think he looks awesome in that role. I'm more concerned about Matthew McCon-whatever being the big bad. He seems like he won't be able to live up to a major villain but that may just be me, who knows. I'm excited for it though.

MM plays an anti hero for the most part, and he kills it.

Mummy gonna suck I have a feeling though. Looks like going to be too focused on the flashy action

Despite the disheartening reviews here, me and the woman are gonna hit a couple of bars downtown and then go to see Covenant.
I won't lie, I'm pretty excited to be ultimately disappointed.

Don't be too down. Even disappointed I still put it as the 3rd or 4th best film in the Alien series and like I said in my review, there are some absolute bombshells in this thing.
At this point I'd like to see thing move toward a Ridley Scott directorial finale, the film you retire on, merging Blade Runner and Alien and tying the whole thing back in to the original Alien seamlessly like TFA.
