Several people said this show deserves its own thread. I concur. This show is fantastic. Stellar acting. The concept itself has a solid tip of the cap to Blade Runner. And the holodeck from Star Trek. Like taking video games to a realm it never even dreamed possible. Giving the wealthy a chance to live in an alternate reality where they are basically Gods. The moral and ethical implications of hosts becoming self aware in the sense that they are starting to remember "previous lives".
HBO has a juggernaut on their hands with this one. Perfect timing with GOT heading out at the end of the next season.
It vaulted to the top of the Sunday viewing list this week. Will be watching it as it airs from here on out.
So, Cup- do your thing. I hope this show has captured your attention and imagination like GOT did, because your reviews of GOT are professional grade (as in someone should be paying you for them) and I learned a lot about GOT from reading your reviews.
And obviously, anyone else who's into this show- chime in.

This Wyatt Character has me intrigued. Last week the show ended with Ford (Hopkins' character) showing Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) the structure with the cross. I have a feeling that is where Wyatt comes in. Some kind of scorched earth zealot, who thinks he's god's messenger or something. No, I don't mean Mike Pence
A couple other really intriguing things going on right now, for one Arnold. So Westworld had a co-founder with Ford and his name is the name some of the synths are saying when they act up and start talking to themselves? Jesus. The implications of that are scary as hell. Wonder if Arnold and The Man in Black are related in some way? The "personal tragedy" Ford mentioned, could it be a father/son thing?
And the other thing is that episodes seminal character, the stray. They want to bring back his head, to preserve the brain, I guess, so they can reuse the asset still, I'm assuming. But what did he do? He smashed his own skull in with a giant rock. It's as if he wanted to die, but not in the way they were trying to do it, but in a permanent, never come back, sort of way. How did he know he could come back and why did he not want to?
This show creates a lot of questions and really gets the mind racing. I love it for that

If Arnold was related to man in black, wouldn't mib be a little more hip to what that maze is all about?
I feel like Mib has seen all the 'world' has to offer and is now trying to 'hack'into some extra dlc lol.

If Arnold was related to man in black, wouldn't mib be a little more hip to what that maze is all about? Not if they were estranged for a long time. I.E. "personal tragedy"

Watch the 3rd episode...good stuff.
Also went back and watched the beginning of the 1st episode because my chick hasn't been watching. Noticed mib says he's glad "he's back". When I first heard him I assumed he had been there for 30 years for some reason...

Note the inclusion of TUF 4s Tait Fletcher in the WW cast. That was him, wasn't it? I saw the beard and though, "I've seen this dude before, very recently." Realized I'd seen him two hours earlier when you liked one of his FB posts and it showed up in my feed. He's getting a lot of work as an actor. Showing up in a lot of my shows.

He's also in the Accountant with Affleck.
Did the stunt man circuit for years and is starting to get bit parts here and there, but he's still just a hired goon. Dude is not solid actor at all, but he's got a great look.

Check out his IMDB. He has been on a lot of cool movies and shows. Always a bit part, but at least the shows and movies are known. Breaking Bad, John Wick, Sicario, NCIS... www.imdb.com/name/nm1324884/

Trippy episode last night. Pat was definitely on to something with the mib being related to Arnold.

Hopkins definitely channeled his inner Hannibal Lecter in this latest episode. Wow. I worry about anyone who plans on getting in his way. He's got a serious god complex going on. But also the knowledge, resources and power to act on it in frightening ways
The Man in Blacks storyline gets more and more intriguing, as well. I loved how they played out him saving that same guy from being executed again and again he takes the blind fold off and says, "....motherfucker." Got a good laugh out of that
Maive(the lead whore) seems to be catching on faster than anyone, as to what they are. Will be interesting to see what she does, now that she's seemed to embrace it, in a weird way

Now we are truly getting somewhere
The end of episode 5 left me with that feeling very few shows and movies ever accomplish.......Wonderment. I must have sat there for probably 10 seconds as the credits rolled and that amazing music played, mouth agape; eyes wide; barely breathing; then finally..."Wow....this fucking SHOW"
This episode felt like a serious turning point. Narratively. Many of the key character had either revelations, or revealed things to us we had no idea of yet. This episode also continued to show how even previously thought insignificant characters, like the asian surgeon working down in the basement with the ginger douche, will be key and interesting parts of the story. This world is getting so fleshed out and realized. Yet it's doing such a great job of not revealing too much. Mystery and wonder still hovers over everything, like something you can feel, but can't quite gain a hold of.
And man, do they know how to end an episode
Such an important element, I think. One of the aspects that separates the good shows from the great ones is hitting the mark in the final seconds, before the credits roll. This episode did that about three times. Meaning there were at least two earlier points where I thought it was about to end, and would have been thrilled with it. Yet it kept going, and still managed to stick the landing even better than where I unwittingly thought it was trying to prior
I was already in on this show. Hell I was in 20 minutes in to the first episode. But this is the week where I was fully taken in by this story. To the point where I don't even want to speculate anymore on where I think it's going. I'd much rather let them bring me there

^^^.
Binge watched this weekend. Indeed a damn well written show!
Agree with pat sox. It's a great ride. It's fun to speculate but also great to just enjoy watching it unfold. Like the great Jim jarmusch (not one of pat sox s favorite directors heh heh) says, "its tough to get lost when you don't know exactly where you're going".
Lots of elements of blade runner, with obvious androids showing more aspects of humanity than many of the humans do.

Great review Pat.
This may have been my favorite episode thus far into the show. The opening (?) scene witu Hopkins and the original host bartender was so...Hopkins. Just stellar in such a simple story, yet ultimately so deep. And when the host repeats his line about the toasting to the lady with the white shoes, the look on Hopkins face. I believe he thinKS of most of humanity in the same regards...
I RSALLY enjoy the piano renditions of hits...last night was Nine Inch Nails. I think we have also heard Soundgsrden in a previous episode.
So much went on in this episode...the Dr playing with the bird, the other guy getting caught fucking a to be discarded host, the push through by corporate to hide the info being channeled, the guest revealing that he is looking into purchasing the park...
And then we have Dolores. Her scene with Hopkins was great. I didn't care for her talking to herself, felt that was a little cheesy, the first time I've even come close to remotely feeling like that with this show.
How are we not talking about Harris and Hopkins having a drink together?
Next week can't come soon enough. Does anyone know how many episodes we are in for?

Ford and The Man in Black's characters, feels familiar
Ford is like God, stepping back from his creation. Interceding only where he feels necessary, but for the most part seeing how it plays out. While also allowing for Satan (The Man in Black) to try to tempt and interfere with his creations and challenge God's plan

I see many similarities to lost. (Not unexpected)
- use of MIB name
- young boy with stick reminds me of Walt . He appears out of nowhere and his scenes allow characters he speaks with to show us self reflection
The sets in the medical labs of WW remind me of the way "medical research" facilities were depicted in lost's portrayal of the pregnancy research
The Groundhog Day scenes with rancher daughter remind me of Desmond's scenes in the bunker where he has to enter a daily code.
The ominous use of the introduction of the "Arnold " character seem similar to the way "Jacob" was introduced.
Many references to mazes
Many camera shots on cans and bottles with particular focus on the label. This reminds me of the way the dahrma initiative cans and products were depicted in lost.
Anyone else ?

Watched the 1973 movie...Doesn't come anywhere near the level of where the show is going. Not even close. More of a horror flick in a way.

Bit of a step backward in this week's episode. Not much of note in MIB or any other host characters other than Maeve. Was a bit sad to see her realize how manufactured she and her memories are... but the scene didn't quite capture me like I thought that it could have.
Another lost like moment when Bernard discovers that cabin..... the scenery and clearing in the forest as he walked up to it was very similar to the first glimpses we saw of Jacobs cabin.
Kinda cool to hear old time piano version of Radiohead.
Hope next weeks episode is better.

Yeah that cabin was very "LOSTY"...not really feeling the way Maeeve is able to just have one over on the dork workers. Also don't care for the way the gal that works in personality is just rouge troopering it to the reciever after almost being smashed on by a host.
Other than that, love the show. And I agree I hope next week's episode is better.

Just watched the episode again and something new occurred to me. What if that host that was being made in Ford's secret bunker was a synth version of Theresa?
What if the plan wasn't just to have Bernard kill her, but to replace her with a more agreeable, controllable version?
I've been trying to stear clear of speculating and predicting, but this one just hit me too sharply to stay shut

You would think Ford would have a plan to deal with the fallout of Theresa's disappearance, and what better way than if she never went missing in the first place!

The past two episodes have been getting poorer and poorer. The horse chase Indian Gatling gun scene was about as cheesy as they come. Surpassed only by the love scene on the train w the lines "all my life I've been pretending. But u make me feel real". Or something like that.
Meome 's scenes with the medical dudes are getting worse by the episode.
Bernard's opening scene with his son had me pretty sure that he was a host.
I am noticing the overdone music score more and more, and the transitions from scene to scene are becoming worse.
It's like .... trying to take all the cheesy, melodramatic aspects of lost.... magnify their cheesiness by a factor of ten.... and add in tits to draw viewers on hbo.
I'm punting.

Just got caught up.
I'm hooked. I do see some of what Sooner is saying, though I'm finding suspended belief a lot easier than usual since the park is supposed to be this sort of cliche western town where cliche western things happen. My bigger concern is with irrational human behaviors, like the writer who pisses on the window or the behavior tech who goes off snooping (clearly a massive risk) alone and then starts shouting out "Bernard? That you? Hello?" like a fucking nit-wit. Definitely a "Lost" vibe to some of the dumb behaviors, which is what ruined Prometheus.
Having said that, the good far outweighs the bad and the general air of mystery and layers and unpredictability is really fun. Looking forward to ep. 8.

It hasn't really hooked me like other shows have. I know they can't all be GOT but I'm slowly losing interest.
