I never saw the original now that I think about it. I saw 10 cloverfield lane though. Which I really liked. I never saw 10 Cloverfield Lane, so I just watched it tonite on Amazon. Good sequel, good sequel premise. It's almost 2 movies in 1 (1990 Misery meets Godzilla) , so it keeps you guessing on how the plot's gonna turn out, unlike most ordinary monster movies. It had that "apocalyptic, holed up in an old house, zombie flick" feel for most of the movie, which I like. Still lots of potential for the third installment... hoping for a prequel style plot, honestly. Torn between which i like better, 1 or 2. Honestly, I'm Just glad it wasn't an sjw flick like everything else these days... ; ]

I, Tonya 7.5/10
I was 16 when all of this happened. I recall it being on in the background a lot back then. Always felt Tonya had a nice ass, but looked like a weirdo.
The flick itself wasn't bad. Held my attention and made me give a fuck about ice skating for the 2 hours it was on. Painted some things that I didn't recall back when this was going on. Particularly, how much of a fabricator her "bodyguard" was. It's comical, like watching a fat version of one of the guys from stepbrothers. Made me want to look up the Tonya Harding footage from back then. It isn't mentioned in the movie at all, but some hard drugs had to have been involved here.

I really don't watch many movies or TV, apart from sports, but I saw The Last Jedi on the weekend and really enjoyed it. Why am I not surprised that this board didn't like the storyline of the black guy and Asian girl? Because you're desperate to infer racism where none is actually implied, that's why.

I liked The Cloverfield Paradox. I thought it was a nice twist to the original story.
And I also liked Bright.
I've noticed this trend lately where the critics seem to automatically shit all over any feature film thing Netflix does, and I honestly think these critiques are money driven and not legit criticism because the critics said Bright sucked, but it didn't, same with Cloverfield Paradox as well as Altered Carbon. All three got panned, all three are worth watching.

All three got panned, all three are worth watching. About Bright, Grace Randolph made a great point in her review. She thinks a large chunk of the critic hate for it came from the fact they were viewing it from the perspective of watching in a theater, treating it as that type of release rather than what it really was.

The Four Feathers (1939, color)
set around 1820. Young Harry Faversham comes from a wealthy and noble English family rich in military tradition, renowned for bravery. On his tenth birthday he is toasted “may he prove to be the bravest Faversham of all.” Fast forward and Harry has completed military academy and is commissioned as a Captain in the Cavalry.
His unit is ordered into action and Faversham immediately resigns his commission, to the consternation and disgust of his peers, and shame to his family. In response to all the cries for him to reconsider, Harry gives a very sensible and worthy anti-war speech affirming his resolve. His unit ships off to the Sudan, and his 3 best friends each ship him a white feather as a symbol that they consider him a coward. Then his wife gives him a fourth.
Upon soul searching Harry admits to himself that he is a coward, and resolves to redeem both his and his family’s name, resigning himself to die in the effort. Harry embarks on the perilous trip, on his own dime, to work as independent spy and sapper and ends up (through fairly shark- jumping improbable acts of valor, luck, and pain tolerance) saving the lives of the men who gave him the feathers.
This film was fascinating to watch because it was released just as England declared war against Germany and started WW2. It was quite nakedly propaganda, but whereas just 6 or so years before All Quiet on the Western Front was an anti-war portrait of misery, futility, and horror, The Four Feathers was designed to inspire a generation of young men to go off and die in misery, futility, and horror.
And they really went for it. They spared no expense, shot in color and the performances were really worthy of Anthony Hopkins or DDLewis.
8/10.

Bladerunner 2049: 6/10
Having amazing visuals, lighting and backgrounds only gets you so far. It's also not an excuse to add on an hour more of footage then needed to fill in gaps from lack of a proper storyline. Ryan Gosling was good in his role, but it was nothing stellar imo. Was actually kind of hard to sit through, took 4 sessions overall.

Man if you need to sit down 4 separate times to get through a two hour movie, that seems more like a you having a poor attention span problem than a problem with the film That movie is fantastic

And it's drawn out. I fall asleep. The first bladerunner is also hard to get through in one sitting, It is known. I usually agree with you on movies. Just not this one. It lags, badly. I wanted to like this movie, I really did. I was just let down big time.

Couldn't make it through.

Can't remember ever feeling like it was lagging. I was so in, from beginning to end And yes, the atmosphere, visuals and the score are fantastic, but that's not what hooked me. It was the story that really grabbed me. I friggin love where they went and how that got there. But hey, I guess it's not for everyone

Black Panther is the highest rated film in the MCU. 98% on RT and 87 on Metacritic. Haven't seen it, so I'll reserve judgement. I'm very interested on what the people think about this film.

Got a copy of it, cranked up the surround and somewhere down the line it just lost me. Gave it a few tries, eventually just muscled through it to see where the story went. Thought Bautista played perhaps his best role yet. Gosling as well.

Phantom Thread 7.75/10
I'm usually a big fan when DDL and Paul Anderson team up. When I saw the premise of what the film was about, I can't say I was excited. Gave it a shot anyways, was pleasantly surprised.
When DDL acts...its hard to place him as the guy that was in gangs of New York, there will be blood, lincoln, etc. And while you can hear some of the same boom in his voice at times, he's so good at making each character so uniquely defined. Interesting movie, good flow and actually gets rather sadistic.

Has anybody watched the Black Panther? Everything I’m reading says it’s majorly agenda driven and Hollywood critics are backing it with absurdly high ratings. The attitude seems to be that if you don’t like it you are obviously a bigot. The ticket buyers are absolutely destroying it.

Given that it's crushing the box office overseas, do you really think it's likely that there's nothing to it beyond the gay/liberal/black/Hollywood/etc. agenda? Do you think Brazilians and Koreans care about BLM? deadline.com/2018/02/black-panther-opening-weekend-results-international-box-office-1202289446/
