It doesn't need to be the last movie you saw. This place isn't some restrictive straitjacket, rate any movie you want to that you saw. Recently for me. Kelly's Heroes
10/10
A great combination of war/heist/comedy/drama films. Astonishing casting. Even Garth will have to admit Don Rickles was brilliant. Witching & Bitching
8/10 ( may be influenced by Carolina Bang)
A Spanish horror-thriller-comedy. Best summed up by describing the 3 acts. Starts as a Heist film with misogynistic tendencies. Then goes into a matriarchy-slanted survival mode from creepy witches. Ends with.. well watch.

The Witch (Horror Film)
8/10
Cool Horror film without the usual cheese you get from most horror films. (Not that there's anything wrong with those types of films)
If you typically like a lot of scary scenes with tons of gore, people being chased, etc., look elsewhere.
Not one of those types of flicks.

No subtitles either. Should be a few days, week at most till subtitles are available to download for you. Also usually the Russian dubbed torrents still have the english audio, you can usually change the track in the options.

I'll try the Audio track, fuck watching it in Russian, even with English subtitles. Russian sounds corny.

Since it's a new thread, I will start with a review of my favorite film of all time.... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's NestFirst.....Jack Nicholson. One of hollywood's greatest ever actors giving the performance of his lifetime. Was he great before this? Yes. Was he great after? Of course. He gave many amazing turns in varied films throughout 5 decades. But THIS was THE one, in my opinion. Top of the mountain like stuff, not just for Nicholson, but anyone in the history of film That alone would be enough to propel this movie to legendary status, but it had so much more. Louise Fletcher as Nurse Rached. One of the greatest movie foils ever, playing perfectly against Nicholson. Also Brad Dorrif as Billy, Sydney Lassick as Cheswick, William Redfield as Harding, Danny DeVito as Martini, Christopher Lloyd as Taber, Will Sampson as Chief. All so good in this. Just a perfect mix of crazy It all almost exclusively takes place in a mental institution. Mostly in one room, but there is so much going on in this film. So much to be said about the human psyche; about conforming; about organization; about wanting to hide from reality; about the need some have for control; the need some have to rebel. So much under the surface And so many amazing, memorable scenes. That first meeting circle. The invisible world series game. The card games. The electro shock. Juicy Fruit. Those are my cigarettes!!! Put it in the basket chief!!! Oh man, I need to watch this again. And if you haven't seen it, see it. ASAP To me it's a perfect movie. So it gets a perfect score 10/10

Start Trek: Beyond - 7.5 of 10.
This thing was lurking in the VERY mediocre range and kind of pulled it out toward the end just to become dece. Really cliche and at times poorly acted. "Damnit Jim" is about one more iteration away from becoming cringe-worthy. Over-bearing accents. Cookie cutter bad guy, bad guy weapon, story line . . . hey, I'm all for recycling and shit but this is ridiculous. Spectacular visuals, CGI, cinematography, and a handful of endearing performances pull this out of the trash and make it a fun popcorn action/sci fi flick, but it felt more like a 2 hour episode of Star Trek than a feature film.

The Shallows...
Uhmmmm.... well it starts off pretty strong. GORGEOUS scenery and fantastic cinematography. Absolutely beautiful. Looks to be a very relatable story of survival. They went a little far with the Shark's behavior, but not beyond the pale. Still believable enough.
...but then the last 20 or so minutes happened, and the shark story jumps the shark. I was left dumbfounded, almost like being rick rolled. JAWS morphed into Deep Blue SHarknado

Grant Torino - 6 of 10.
You seen me do many 6 of 10's? I'll save you the search -- no, you haven't. This thing BLOWS harder than a coked-out hooker at a NYE party. TURRIBLE acting, writing, and plot. Massively stereotypical and cliche. Just . . . kind of shockingly bad. Old semi-racist greatest generation grumpwerst plays hero to some troubled kids in a diverse neighborhood that ain't what it used to be. Yeesh.

Narcos.
not exactly a film, but felt it was best reviewed here. I liked it. Obviously enacts the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar and the hunt to get him by Columbian government and the various factions that led to his death and loss of empire.
The thing I liked about it was the writing and the use of narrative as several key and minor characters are introduced pretty seamlessly. I also appreciated how it portrayed and told the stories of some of those peripheral characters who lost their lives or had their lives significantly impacted by decisions of gangsters and cops as the story unfolded. Good examples are the stories of the girl enlisted to drive Pablo around in hiding, as well as the younger teen enlisted to unknowingly bomb the airliner.
The acting of several of the characters borders on being shitty (gaviria, Judy, Connie Murphy, pacho, Messina). But several were very well acted (Pablo, degrieffe, and tata).
I really enjoyed watching this unfold. Was Not able to really binge watch much so it was fun to wait until I had a chance to watch the next episode. I liked how the writing handled the decline of each of his safe houses as he hid.
A good ride. Would recommend.
3.5/5.

Bad Moms - 7.5/10 Predictable, but lots of good laughs. Good casting, good comedic timing on the jokes. A lot better than Neighbors or any other comedy I've seen this year (unless I'm forgetting something).

The killer
Have not had much time to sit and watch a film recently. This had been on deck for quite some time. Was looking foward to a nice film experience in a chow yun-fat Hong Kong modern genre film on a Sunday afternoon .....
But got this turd instead.
Watched 15 minutes of it. Church scene with assassin introduction scene with almost a cool hand like church feel about it. Was hoping this was a good sign.
Then a night club assassination scene. Abysmal. Worse than the Stallone mechanic remake. Lots of bad slowmo shooting ... all formulaic complete with two handed pistol shots and obvious incorporation of the female love interest character /fatal mistake character. Even had the slow mo cartridge falling shots.
0/5

Captain Fantastic -8.0 / 10
This guys review pretty much summed it up for me:
Indie drama flick; about a family, that has lived in isolation in the Pacific Northwest forests (for a decade), that's forced to reenter society when tragedy strikes. It was written and directed by actor, turned filmmaker, Matt Ross. The film stars Viggo Mortensen; and it features small supporting turns from Frank Langella, Steve Zahn, Kathryn Hahn and Ann Dowd. It's been a small hit at the indie theaters, and it's also received mostly positive reviews from critics, and fans alike. I went into the movie knowing very little about it (having not seen a single trailer), and I really enjoyed it.
Ben and Leslie Cash (Mortensen and Trin Miller) had been living 'off the grid', in the Washington state mountains with their six children, for close to ten years. They taught their kids very strict survival skills, as well as the benefits of a socialist society. When Leslie suffers from severe bipolar disorder, and kills herself because of it, Ben decides to take his family to her funeral, in New Mexico, despite Leslie's father (Langella) strongly discouraging him against it. The family's new experiences, in the conventional world, challenges all of their staunch views on life (especially Ben's).
The movie is a great examination of extremism verses conformity; it does a very fair job of weighing the pros and cons of each. It's also an excellent character study, that's filled with involving performances; especially from Viggo, but the child actors are all good as well. It's equally funny, heart breaking and thought provoking. It's definitely a film that will leave a lasting impression on me, and I wouldn't mind revisiting it, at some point in the future. I look forward to seeing more from Matt Ross.

Stonehearst Asylum - 8 of 10.Salty. Really great cast. Surprised I haven't heard of this. Big names galore, Victorian era insane asylum, good plot twists, and then another twist, really well done script here. Bit of a Shutter Island vibe. Actually a lot of that vibe.
