The thing I really love about The Last Jedi is it has the potential to shed off a lot of the worst kinds of hardcore, obsessed fans from the franchise. Or at least expose them for how fucking stupid they are Now I'm in no means saying if you didn't like this movie you're stupid. I'm referring to the people who are lifelong Star Wars fanatics that know all the cannon; have all these theories; named pets after some of the characters, etc. Those people seem to be the ones who hated this movie the most. You can find some of them on youtube, by simply searching "The Last Jedi" and the first couple pages will be riddled with titles like "Why it Sucks" Disney is ruining Start Wars" "Angry Rant" "Don't see this movie" "10 things I hate about The Last Jedi" etc etc. All with thumbnails of people makig angry frothy expressions, or facepalming all melodramitcally Honestly these are usually just the worst kinds of people. The ranters. The people who act all betrayed. You probably are discovering some in your circle of family and friends because of this movie. And you may notice a correlation that these are usually the people you know that wouldn't know a good movie if it stabbed them in the face. And that's what this is. A Star Wars that dared to be a good movie. Not some pandering, nostalgia porn drivel. And they just can't handle it. And I'm loving that Fuck these people. Star Wars if for the rest of us now. Go watch the kids cartoons, or those god awful prequels, nerds From a normal movie perspective, it is still pretty much a mediocre movie at best. Not shit, but i wouldn't even call it good.

The Disaster ArtistYou know those obnoxious people who keep telling you you have to see The Room? "Dude, it's so bad. But like....it's so bad, it's....good. It's hilarious bro." Yeah that's me. Not proud of it.....wait yes I am. That movie IS fucking hilarously bad. It's legendary in it's inetptitude and bizarre depiction of a ridiculous story. And it has now produced a feature film that is one of the best of the year James Franco's The Disaster Artist is a brilliant exploration in to the making of this horrid film. And the people who made it. Mainly the writer, director and star of the film, Tommy Wiseau. The often not very stellar Franco does an surprisingly amazing job of depicting this insnae weirdo. His brother is really good as well as Greg, the co-star, best friend and guy who wrote the tell-all book that this movie is based on It's funny for multiple reasons. First in how it lets you relive the iconic scenes of The Room, in a new way. And two for all the behind the scene stuff showing how Tommy and Greg's friendship develops. How Tommy is on set. How he is out in the world. But it also has a lot of heart. It's oddly inspirational. It's not just making fun of the guy, or his joke of a film. It's giving a window in to the soul of a truly unique individual and can make you feel confused, angry, sad, but mostly just happy, as you're having fun watching this train jump the tracks and end up in a different station than the conductor intended, but ultimately being more succsesful than anyone could have imagined, because of it It's just a really well done film, and I think Franco may end up scoring an Oscar nomination..........yes, I really just said that. Academy Award Nominee: James Franco. It's been a strange year 8.5 / 10

Logan lucky
Don’t get a chance to watch films much these days. Took an evening to check this one out over the holidays. Directed by oceans 11 guy apparently.
Two brothers in west v with missing limbs decide to rob the nascar speedway in charlotte.
As u can guess.... it tries to be a caper film with an intricate robbery heist plot interlaced with joe dirt / taledega nights / east bound and down type characters.
It fails badly. The robbery plot was rushed. The characters were not interesting, intriguing, not in any way amusing.
Badly disappointed. Gave up after an hour.
2/5

Blade Runner 2046. 6.5/10.
I don't know - just too slow and so long. Some great visuals and good score to go with the movie, and acting was good. However, it was very long and they went too artsy instead of focusing on the actual science fiction. Plus, the characters in the 5 minute prequels had super small parts in the movie but were more interesting than the movie focus.
The Disaster Artist. 1/10. Arguable the dumbest movie I have ever seen and I think you would have to try really hard to give it more than a 1. It's basically daring you to be obnoxious for the sake of "art" and pretend you thought it was funny.

Evolution - 8/10
Granted the movie holds some nostalgia for me, but I still consider it an underrated gem from those years of comedies. That and I also loved Julianne Moore, David was Fox Mulder, so it was just great casting for me. Also one of the more divisive movies I know of, where pretty much everyone either loves it or hates it, rarely an "its good or its okay or its bad". Anyways it now on Hulu and Amazon for those that miss it, or have never seen it. Also Dan Aykroyd for President, and remember Cells are Bad.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MissouriTerrible title. Excellent movie First what a cast. Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage, John Hawks, the creepy son from Get Out, the kid from Manchnester by the Sea, the guy who played Lester Freamon on The Wire. What a story, masterfully told by the same director who did Seven Psychopaths, so you know it will have some weird, funny stuff in there.......despite what it's about And what it's about is of a woman who's daughter was recently found raped and murdered, who buys ads on three roadside billboards to call out the local police chief about not finding the killer. Problem is the people of the town love the chief and start to hate and harass this woman, despite what happened to her daughter From there it's pretty much a crazy string of events that occur between her, the cops and the local town people. Questions of who is right, is anyone right. How to cope with things. What is too far, and that line gets crossed....a LOT. Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell, in particular, are fantastic in this. This movie ends up going to extreme places. No, I don't mean like the Congo, or the North Poll, it's always in Ebbing Missouri. I mean some of the shit people get in to is nuts. It's a wild film, yet it has a lot of heart and pulls no punches in portraying people's cavalierism about things like race, homosexuality etc. Not much PC measures to not offend are taken here, which actually makes it pretty amazing that this thing won the Golden Globe. But good that it did so. It's a great movie 9/10

The Shape of WaterGuilermo Del Toro's latest sureal, visual stunner that has more to it, story-wise, that I'm used to seeing from that guy. Quite a bit more, actually It's a hell of story about a woman who can't speak, who while working as a cleaner in a government lab, makes a connection with a strange, black lagoon like, sea creature. There's government spooks, russian spies, shocking moments of violence, beautiful moments of sincere innocence, intersting moral questions, laughs, cries, pies and one of the best sign language fuck yous ever delivered The woman is played by Sally Hawkins and she is friggin awesome, despite not being able to say a word. You also get Michael Shannon at his scary, menacing best. That guy might honestly be the best actor on earth, at this point. Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins are also really good in it. It's one of those movies that can kind of sweep you away. Haunting and beautiful. Tense at times. Peacfully sublime in others. I was really taken with it. Good one for a first date, if you want to get them to an agreeable, post-netflix, chill state But really just an enjoyable, extremely well performed, well crafted movie that could take it all at the Oscars 9.5 / 10

I really don't watch many movies or TV, apart from sports, but I saw The Last Jedi on the weekend and really enjoyed it.
Why am I not surprised that this board didn't like the storyline of the black guy and Asian girl?

Nobody liked it you fuck. It had no impact on the plot. It didn't make sense. And she had stupid fucking hair. It was a stereotypical Disney side-bar, sealed with a kiss.

Why am I not surprised that this board didn't like the storyline of the black guy and Asian girl? I actually liked it when she was secret nerd-badass. I then thought it was lame when they forced that relationship into whatever that was at the end. It's not that we're racist, its that we're feminists and angry that they forced the female to have a relationship with a male rather than just being an individual badass. I'm pretty sure that makes you the racist and sexist.

I think you need to do some self-reflection on why you really didn't like the sub-plot. What were your thoughts on Lando Calrissian?

Some parts didn't click, biggest complaint was the slow-speed chase between starships.

Thought he got kind of a free pass on the double cross. Nah he duped Vader more than he double crossed his buddies. He couldn’t stand up to the Empire directly, he would have only been killed. And if that didn’t redeem him he personally rescued Han from Jabba

Back to the Last Jedi....
I agree that it was way too long. Cutting the Finn sub plot would probably drop the length to under 2 hours and much more enjoyable.
Other than that, I really don't have any complaints. It would be interesting if they make a back story movie explaining Snoke's emergence.
I also want to throw it in Laura Dern and her purple lid.

I saw a movie last night.
Hostiles
I give it a 6/10. It was a beautifully shot western and had a few good characters and subplots.
The main plot, which I guess was Christian Bale's character's personal redemption, was almost non existent. They could have saved a lot of dough making this movie. I feel like they could have found someone better suited to playing the role of the grunting, nodding, grizzled vet.
Lots of long shots of people riding horses through beautiful landscapes.

I don't know though what the fans of the original are saying about it.

It should be a fun movie either way, in my opinion.
