I feel for him. Sucks that he will be leaving without a chance at redemption after such an embarrassing loss, but he's being punked around and no one is even trying to hide the fact. Call him a duck or whatever but the guy was champion and deserves some respect so I hope they honor his request or give him a shot at redemption. I'm a huge fan of Conor but fuck the UFC for this.

He actually might make more money in Bellator with the legit sponsorship. Aldo raping Chandler, coming to a city near you!

Except the UFC will never release him, so I hope Aldo can actually pursue a completely different sport (he most certainly can not).
Per usual, I completely agree with his frustration, but can't fathom why he would say the things he says. Enjoy career limbo, Jose.

he should have received an immediate rematch for that flash knockout. any other english speaking dominant champ would have. its a black mark the ufc will now always have.

His frustration is understandable, but Conor would waste him anyway. He likely doesn't need money so Bellator doesn't have much else to offer.
He mentioned another sport. Wouldn't be surprised to see him attempt to play soccer somewhere if he actually does get released from the contract.

Maybe he's thinking of doing muay thai/kickboxing matches. That one is sure to get the lawsuits going.

I was really sad when I read this. He was completely dominant, and had a flash KO, and since then has been treated like shit. He isn't showy or flashy but always quality. I am really bummed for him.

For the most part I agree with you. I don't enjoy the conservative UFC "I might have to fight 5rds" Aldo as much as I did the "I'm going to push this guys shit in" WEC Aldo. He is getting the red headed step child treatment that GSP got after he should of lost to Hendricks.

My problem with Aldo is that he pullled out because of an injury after weeks/months of promoting and then he got KOed in a few seconds. When he fought Edgar he didn't leave the impression of making a statement. To be honest I agree with Conor saying that Aldo didn't 'took it'. Aldo won a lackluster fight and based on what I've seen it doesn't really get me excited for the Conor rematch.
Imo Aldo was already on the decline before he fought Conor. His last preformances were lackluster decission victories like his fight with Korean Zombie. He became a champion that fought not to lose and that rarely makes for exciting fights.

It almost doesn't matter if the UFC releases him or not. He said he wants to pursue other sports, which I would assume is soccer. if they don't grant the release, he just never fights again. I have to think there's nothing in his contract that would not allow him to play soccer.

That's my big problem with Aldo all together. Since he came to the UFC most of his fights have been lackluster. No doubt he is the greatest 145 champ to date but he isn't in demand like Conor. The average fan could care less who deserves what, they just want to see Conor in an exciting matchup. The UFC can definitely hype the "first guy to hold two belts angle". It makes the UFC more money and the average fan will be more intrigued. No doubt Aldo got screwed (so did the LW contenders) but he is messing up badly by running that mouth the way he has.

sure they will. all he has to do is tweet how he just bought a molestor van and all kids are welcome. or some other stupid anti gay or anti women joke. its fucking easy if you just use your brain instead of asking for a release. have his wife tweet a pic with a black eye and say aldo is moving out in the morning. its way easier than you think

No chance the UFC is going to just release one of their biggest names to then go fight in Bellator only because he's mad and wants out.

Great fighter but also pulls out of more fights than any champ in history. He ran his mouth about a Conor rematch after getting starched and then turned it down. I don't feel sorry for him in the least. Like many fighters, Aldo is very jealous that Conor came along and is 500x more marketable. But, Aldo has himself to blame. Want to learn how to market yourself in the largest MMA market in the world? Learn English. The guy that gets KOd in 13 seconds doesn't get to demand a rematch on his terms. He had the chance and said no and now is pissed the UFC is not making his rematch a priority. Why the fuck would they? He can't sell a fight.
He can stay and fight (and lose) to Max Holloway and wait for Conor. Or he can let pride get the best of him and retire of leave. Either way he has no leverage and is WAY past the point in his career where he was adored by all fans.

www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/54waue/josé_aldos_interview_after_combate_talked_with/"Combate: So from what we understand the big problem isn't even them making McGregor fight Alvarez, but him keeping the featherweight belt which is totally unfair, third fight outside of the division, he shouldn't be the featherweight champion anymore, I know you said that there's no turning back, but let's say that tomorrow Dana White says McGregor lost the featherweight belt, is going to fight for lightweight belt, then if he loses he comes back, try again but this time without being the featherweight belt, in this case wouldn't you change your mind?Sorry for insisting. José Aldo: What I want, what I always wanted to do, and everyone who is with me in a daily basis in the gym knows...let me tell you a quick story. When I wanted to fight with Anthony Pettis way back then in the lightweight division, Pettis' manager came to us, everything worked out, we went to Dana and he said: "No, if you want to take this fight you need to leave the featherweight division, give up your belt, and then you can fight Pettis in the lightweight division, and after that if you lose or win, you can make a fight to get your featherweight belt back." I didn't think it was fair back then and I don't think it is, I said "Okay, I will stay in my division because I know I am the champion, I am trying to do something good for you, the promotion, for everyone, and you want me to give up something mine..." and now something totally different is happening." I want to see Dana shills defend this. And oc, A long reigning champ(7 title defenses in the UFC alone) deserves an immediate fucking rematch! He's not on Cain or Khabib level of inactivity. He fought 9x in the UFC. But like the toehold syndrome, if a brazilian does it, let's blow it out of proportion. Aldo is the only one who pulls out, Cyborg is the only one who uses roids.

The UFC hasn't ever been about what is right or fair.
What's new?
Fitch, Jacare, Maia, ...hell, even the shit they pulled on GSP after the Hendricks fight was ridiculous.
Not sure why Aldo just doesn't start wrecking guys like Max and Pettis. He either knows he's at the end of his career and is scared of losing the interim title or he's too caught up in his loss to Conor.
I like Aldo but just let it go. Keep winning and you will get your Conor fight.

Keep winning and you will get your Conor fight. I've felt like Aldo hasn't really been motivated to fight for awhile. I completely understand his frustration but him sitting out doesnt prove anything. If they release Aldo to attempt other sports, I can assume there is some sort clause about not fighting for another promotion. Aldo really is in limbo tho. I think Conor will beat Eddie and if he does, I think he will vacate the FW belt. More big money fight tend to be at 155 so that seems logical to me. So if your Aldo--you might get a fight to unify your belt but I'm not sure that belt would mean shit to him unless he takes it from Conor so honestly, walking away makes sense. Adios Aldo.

I want to see Dana shills defend this. Aldo is the only one who pulls out, Cyborg is the only one who uses roids. bobo - he was OFFERED the rematch and he turned it DOWN. He was offered exactly what you are demanding, did you forget? So tell me what he deserves? To choose the where and when he gets to re-challenge the champ? He turned down a rematch and claimed he needed more time to train for Conor after he already had a year to train for him. When he pulled out of the first Conor fight, Conor took an opponent on two weeks notice. Why? Because he wasn't going to fuck everyone over and walk away from a fight, something Aldo has done 5 times as the champ. He has pulled out of 5 fights as the champion. That's a problem. He has been offered three fights with Conor and taken one. So this amounts to Aldo's pride and him wanting to be the "champ" on his terms instead of the "interim champ" and not have to wait or allow the UFC to wait on Conor. He doesn't have the draw nor any leverage to demand when he gets his Conor rematch and given he already turned one down and pulled out of another, we have no guarantee he wants any part of Conor. What the hell does Dana need to defend? A few hardcore fans being pissed off about Aldo? Aldo is not in the top 10 of their draws and in the biggest moment of his career, after pulling out of the first fight, he was put to sleep in 13 seconds. The UFC offered Aldo a rematch and he declined. That's exactly what Dana White would tell you so how would you respond? A Conor press conference draws more interest today than an Aldo fight so don't expect anything to change. And dude, I am the first to clearly remind everyone their is nothing 'FAIR' when it comes to the fights the UFC puts together. We shouldn't expect it. Conor does have a different standard than everyone else and so does Ronda. So does Brock. The ones that bring in the most cash get treated differently. if Conor does defeat Eddie, we could very well see him hold up two divisions doing whatever he wants.

Call me delusional, buit it's not in the realm of possibility for Aldo's management & coaching staff to persuade him to decline the Conor rematch back when Aldo was asking for it. Aldo is a hot-head, and would grab the opportunity given to him. I think Aldo took one for the team-had his pride torn when he turned down the fight- so they could make him better. And the results were undeniable: A rampaging FW Edgar lost to Aldo in a rematch that left no doubt compared to their 1st fight. I could see your point(management's perspective) but I'm a pro-fighter kind of guy. I am the Jerry Maguire type character. That explains why I'm poor.

But those were not his terms. They were Dana's terms. Fight for the interim, winner gets Conor or Conor is stripped. We all know Dana is a liar so it gets swept under the rug like it's the norm. Fighting three times without defending your title is ridiculous, no matter who you are. So it's not about Aldo it's about what Dana said. Aldo is just calling him out on it.
