And if Conor was stripped would that really keep anyone from buying any of his PPVs? Doubt it but Conor want to carry that belt around and call himself champ without the responsibilites and duties of a champ.

But those were not his terms. They were Dana's terms. Fight for the interim, winner gets Conor or Conor is stripped. We all know Dana is a liar so it gets swept under the rug like it's the norm. Fighting three times without defending your title is ridiculous, no matter who you are. So it's not about Aldo it's about what Dana said. Aldo is just calling him out on it. Okay, call him a liar but when did he state the timeline of the Aldo vs Conor fight? Because he maintains Conor has to fight Aldo but in the meantime, is allowing Conor the detour to fight Eddie. And he repeated if Conor doesn't fight Aldo he will be stripped. Aldo is crying because he watched that press conference and Dana didn't overrule Conor saying he is keeping both belts and didn't make reference to exactly when he will have to go down and defend. It IS about Aldo's pride. Conor is worth 50x more to the UFC than Aldo so Aldo can sit there and wait, and contemplate why he ran from Conor in the past. Stars get special treatment. Conor is the Lebron James of MMA and is being treated like it.

Time line of when Conor Aldo 2? Wasn't it right after Diaz/Conor 2... He specifically said Conor had to go defend the title or be stripped. Then two weeks after he said he wasn't going to strip him that it was up to Conor to vacate. Dana also told Frankie and Aldo that they would unify the titles after Diaz Conor 2.
I know he gets special treatment but for the sake of a legitimate sports championship, can you at least admit it's bullshit he is going on three fights without defending his title.
If Dana did lie and also is expendable release him, call us bluff.

If it makes the most money, it makes the most sense. They will never just let Aldo out of his contract. Aldo will wait and fight when Dana decides it's time. There is only one person who can challenge Dana and win, and that's Conor.

Of course there's nothing wrong with calling Dana out on his lies - we've been doing it for years!

If Dana did lie and also is expendable release him, call us bluff. I admit it's total BS and Dana absolutely said Conor had to defend 145 after the Diaz fight or lose the title. But he is still saying that Conor has to defend it. Yes, also agree it's BS that he gets to fight 3 times elsewhere without defending 145 but that is exactly why they created an interim belt. Aldo IS the interim champion. Aldo gets to carry around a belt. Dana's job is to make money first and that's what he is doing and all of this is Aldo wanting his redemption fight. He wants respect and for the UFC to consider his wishes as a priority. Good luck with that. For me, I really don't care about Aldo's feelings when it comes to Conor ever since he declined the rematch during the same days he was running his mouth about wanting the fight. Aldo lost his standing as a champion that can make demands the second his face hit that canvas from a Conor punch. That's the reality of MMA and being a champion that can't speak English. It's irrelevant how great he is, outside of us that follow MMA closely and how truly awesome a champ Aldo has been. Conor gets special treatment but in the end, he is still fantastic for the sport.

Why doesn't Aldo just fight out his last few fights and then just leave? Fight anyone every other month until his fight commitment is fulfilled.

If anything, he's taking the tougher route by moving up and fighting bigger guys that also bring more money/attention. He's also fighting more than any champ that I can think of.
So while I totally agree that it sucks for Aldo, I don't think there's anything wrong with what Conor's doing. Conor is brining in a lot of new eyes to the UFC and helping everyone make more money -- including Aldo.
I think Conor has completely exceeded the responsibilities of being a champ.

That's a bunch of hog wash. I'm not saying he's not a draw and the fact that he drew at 170 without a belt makes my point. I'm not talking about Aldo, he just happens to be interim champ but even in Bobo's post, Dana agrees. How can you be a champ and not defend it in over a fucking year? It's unfair to the 145 division.

IMO, a year isn't even that long considering.
I think it would be different too had he not already beaten the top two in the division. (Max and Aldo)
And like OC already said, Aldo had his chances to fight Conor but passed on it.
I would have to check but how long did Cruise hold onto that belt without defending it? I think it was a while. I understand that he had an injury but still.
A year really isn't that long IMO especially given the circumstances of the situation and RDA pulling out of the first LW fight.

I was one to bash Aldo for not taking that fight after asking for it but you have to let that go once Dana set up the interim match with the winner either get to fight for the title or becoming the champion because Conor didn't defend it. Max could be fighting Aldo for the title(I've always hated interim titles and by the response of fighters when they win them, they don't really care for them either).
I understand the business side but I don't understand how someone can call themselves a champ not having defended that title yet going on his third fight... The saying, you're not a champ until you defend it only matters when fighters you don't like don't win their first title defense.

The problem with Aldo not speaking English and not being half as explosive as his WEC days is that his fan base is pretty much Brazil alone. People don't want to see him fight, the numbers don't lie. If he loses to anyone not named Conor im sure Dana would be happy to let him out of his contract. He probably is the 2nd best at 145 but his massively overplaying his hand right now.

The way Dana is talking and no one revealing what the "big Conor announcement" is, I think Conor is retiring after the Eddie fight or taking a long break. I bet that's the announcement that's coming and Dana is giving Conor the last fight he wants.
