It's been a while since we did this, so what is your profession? I am an A&P airplane mechanic who currently works for Bombardier at the West Virginia Air Center.

I am a project manager for KAI. I am pretty much the middle man between sales/design, customers, and our crews. Some days I'm in meetings with zoning/planning and some days I'm driving to and fro delivering equipment, tools, material. On projects I'm assigned, I work with customers on scheduling (shutdowns, alternative routes or parking, etc) and I do walk through without and then with the customer.
We're expanding our footprint and I've expanded my territory. I've spent most of the last fall and this winter either down near Austin or up near Omaha getting those shops ready to go for this spring.

I've copied and pasted below what our website says. Very generic. We're a 30 person company or so that does Surety Bonds for construction projects (mainly, but also many other types of commercial, court, fidelity bonds, etc (no bail bonds)). I'm a marketing guy that dabbles in creating and managing our CRM, a lot of operational stuff, but still just sit and pound the phones and emails. Took last place in the office chili cook-off yesterday after winning it the previous years. Those are the highs and lows folks. Chief Marketing Analyst Charged with facilitating marketing strategy meetings and integrating strategies between marketing, contract underwriting, commercial underwriting and accounting. Responsibilities also include marketing analysis including reports on marketing efficiency, results, and projections. Additional marketing duties include phone, email and print marketing efforts. Active with company since 2005. ccisurety.com/cci-surety-professionals/

Realtor & Property manager
I was working for a management company, managing a few hundred units. Did that for about the last 5 years. Quit last year, just got tired of dealing with shit tenants and shit landlords. Now I just manage my own and stuff for friends and family. Keeps me busy.
On the side I also run a couple of car washes, an "urban" farm and I will occasionally find work as a project manager for remodels.

I can't imagine dealing with that job at like a medium-low income apartment complex. I lived in a fairly shitty apartment here when I was 18-20 and the lady who ran that place literally cried and tried to get me to stay. I barely ever talked to her, had friends over drinking too much, and various other 19 year old drama. But the way she put it, the fact that my rent was in the box and I never called for maintenance meant I was a model tenant.

I worked for a company that specialized in lower income, govt subsidiary and section 8 housing. It was an amazing learning experience. I recall years prior, looking into picking up more units. My girl and I had the attitude of "how bad can it be?". Well, I learned how bad it can be, and thankfully I did it on someone else's dime. If the company I had worked for didn't try to take advantage of me as much as they did, I would likely still be working the job. If I knew What I know now... Lesson 1. Never give your cell phone number as a direct contact...

I finally learned that lesson with my job. I used my personal cell for everything at work when I was a foreman. It was on my card that I gave customers or handed out to people who were interested.
Last winter when I took this position, I made a work phone a "demand". Now unless there's a project I'm responsible for overnight, that phone gets shut off at 730-8pm every night and I turn it on when I wake up.
People abuse the shit out of being able to contact you 24/7 if they think you can do something about their problem. Seems to be no shame calling at dinner time, after 9, etc.

I am the President/Emperor of Tony's Herb Co. And the CEO of Caiazzabis.
THC is the marijuana grow company that has been crouched at the starting line for two years and currently operates as a smallish medical operation that takes care of the maximum number of legally allowed patients. We are ready to expand in a very aggressive manner into the retail market, as soon as our current governor leaves office (because the a-hole is not going to allow retail on his watch).
Caiazzabis is the grow system company. We spent so much time developing our grow system that when we finished and crunched the numbers, we realized that there is more potential in our grow system than there is in the product it is growing. Based on the operating costs of the largest grows in Colorado, our system is more efficient in every single measurable facet than anything being done in the industry today. There are a few requirements in order for the system to work perfectly but if those requirements are met, it is amazingly cheap to grow top shelf marijuana (or any other vegetable). When federal legalization occurs, we will franchise out our grow system to operators in other states. But first we have to "prove it" on a big scale. Fortunately, we already have utility patents pending on the system itself so even if the governor stops us from launching until 2019 that side is covered.

The passive aggressive texting about neighbors that fart too loud is what the final straw for me was. Single parents with no job and nothing better going on. Want to call or text and talk about someone else's business. If my tenants now do something like this...they can expect to get priced out of the building.
I now refuse to rent to anyone that is not routinely out the door 5 days a week for work. I won't even fuck with people that work from home, you can make 250k for all I care, not going to deal with it.

I just let a tenant have it yesterday for texting me about bullshit stuff. I told him to move out and I would refund him 100% deposit. He says he will talk to his wife. An hour later he texts to apologize and I ignored him. Then his wife texts me later on saying they wanted to stay and I ignored her too. Stupid MFers, I'm not playing that shit.

Lol you don't seem like the type to respond well to that type of bs. I had a tenant just act up recently, first month into a year lease. She started coming on a little too strong and I stopped her in her tracks with a simple "I want my tenants to be happy, if this isn't the place for you i will be more than happy to break your lease. We can call today the 1st of a 30 day notice to leave if you like" Shit got quiet real quick. All is well now. Funny how that works. Commercial is a whole different animal. I love doing commercial. Far less bs.

Are you guys building full plug and play systems or components to build an effecient grow space?

^Neither. We've established a system that will allow you to grow almost 45% more product for the same cost. Those who want to use the system will have to buy in to cover 40% of their start up costs (and they can't borrow that money, it needs to be their's) and we cover specific expenses that allow us to maintain leverage. We will own the land they operate on, they will pay rent that is based on a percentage of their sales as well as a monthly franchise fee. The agreement is almost identical to your standard McDonald's franchise agreement. Except that our franchisee's will be paying less to us on a monthly basis to allow them to remain as close as possible to being the price point setter in their market. They'll own all the capital that goes into the system itself (aside from one crucial component that we will own) and will basically be paying for the ability to produce far cheaper than any of the other indoor grows around them.
This is commercial level, so it's not a "grow it in your basement" system. You'll need 6000 sq. ft., access to natural gas, and the money required to buy in to get moving. But you don't have to grow weed, you can grow anything in there.
As I've told all my guys, if the price of coconuts goes up above the price of weed, we're growing coconuts instead.

I own a residential construction company that mainly does mid to high end homes in Northern California. Currently employ 12 people and unfortunately that will be increasing because of the fires here last fall. Like others have said about giving out your cell phone, don't do it! My life is enveloped by customers, to the point where I don't think I have gone a full day without being involved in my work for at least the last 10 years.

You know, I use my number now as the contact for tenants, when I cut ties with section 8, my phone went back to what i consider normal. My tenants are essentially my customers, so I prefer to be on the front line for them. I also have had to deal with people on a daily basis, weekends and holidays included for quite some time now. I almost feel this sense of anxiety if I am not available.

Also forgot that THC "hired me" to be their lobbyist in Augusta. I am officially "licensed" to take congressmen out to dinner and talk to them about the issues. AND I got the added bonus of not being allowed to make campaign contributions to any politicians, so when my brother asked for money for his next jaunt into politics I told him "Sorry, but I'm not allowed to give you money." When he persisted I told him I would find a way to get him some money as long as he met the requirements I had. He told me to send him my requirements.
So I sent him the documentation necessary to switch from being a Democrat to being a Republican. Haven't heard from him since.

Also I would rather do emails and calls everyday of my vacation than come back to 100+ all at once. However not letting it get there in terms of addiction to business or expectations from customers seems like the solution to me. The older generation of guys in the industry leave their phones in the truck all day and never return calls in the evening or on vacation... and by them setting this precedent people don't even bother trying to get a hold of them and consequently they are not disappointed when those guys don't call them back. Now I do see the ability to make a lot more money by being available at all times, but my point was that being a business owner and being connected has made my life revolve around work to an unhealthy level. There has to be a balance somewhere, but I have not been able to shut things down to the point of finding that yet.

I'm an engineer for a Steel fabrication company.
I'm STILL in school for an electrical engineering degree too. I was gonna graduate but I figured that would upset Premier so I decided to stay another year.

Some guys have like "fomo" for work. The same "need to control" thing helped you be successful, but can't let go type of it situation. My old man is a perfect example. He carries his work phone and laptop (he's old, come on) everywhere. Out to dinner? Work phone on the table. Vacation? Laptop and phone in hand, bitching about this or that. Zero "quality time" to be had that way in my opinion. He thinks I'm crazy and going to get fired when I hit the "fuck you" button on a call while I'm talking to him.

Different industry and all, but there is no way I could leave my phone anywhere else but near me all day. Although I do see most of the older guys have an answering service set up. And I do agree that it's unhealthy. I have a very hard time just being able to enjoy my family time and it's something I have been trying to really focus in and work on. And I am very guilty of letting a shitty text or message from a tenant mess with my day while I'm out with the family, at the river, etc. My girl basically just takes my phone and deals with it while we are on our little getaways. My whole reasoning for being so wrapped up in it is, If I don't give a fuck about it, who else is going to?
