Honestly, no offense, I'm gonna trust a pro fighter like my instructor who has cut more than 10lbs for fights on multiple occasions if he tells me that's a life threatening amount, and he was talking about how nuts that is to do. Can someone pull it off and be ok? Sure, people can be ok through crazy circumstances. But it's not safe, nor should it be common place. I think it is time to have cage side weigh ins with hydration levels tested. Hank's a fighter, not sure if you knew that already? Oh right, I forgot that KingofLA is an Amateur MMA fighter but he (no need to talk about "him" in 3rd person, sorry Hank LOL) has probably not cut close to 15lbs to rehydrate for fights on 24 hours notice like my teacher has. Of course I am biased to believe my instructor on most things, but I just know he's made those kinds of cuts many times, both on short term and 24 minutes ahead of time, and fought at a higher level than Hank, and he's been going on about how dangerous that is, so I believe him. I don't know how different cutting is at the pro vs Amateur level, but I know my prof. has fought in strikeforce and other orgs, and he's a straight edge vegan who's diet is always on point, so if he thinks cutting a certain amount of weight is dangerous, he knows cause he's done it even when every calorie he ate was strict before his fights.

Don't think it's that ridiculous considering you lose about 1-2 lbs per training session, and probably more if you're in a sweat suit, sweaters etc. 24 hours is enough time for 2-3 hard sweat sessions, and sauna to cut that last 10-15 lbs. They say anything over 10% of your weight in the sauna during that last session is too much. I doubt he has to do that for his cuts. Honestly, no offense, I'm gonna trust a pro fighter like my instructor who has cut more than 10lbs for fights on multiple occasions if he tells me that's a life threatening amount, and he was talking about how nuts that is to do. I have been calling for same day weigh-ins since the MMAWeekly days, at which people called me a moron. I'm betting you were one of those people.

Except you didn't *learn* that from experience like my boy did, you just thought it might be better for no good reason. The people who convinced me it should be that way did so cause they went through it themselves, which you never did. But amazing for you for guessing that it was a bad idea with having no good evidence to back it up and now bashing me for changing my opinion over the years. Fucking moron.

Not even close to the level of Kevin Lee or whoever Toehold's instructor is, but I cut 10 lbs in the sauna in the last 4 hours. Take into consideration there is no more food or water consumption in the last 24 hours. I'm sure it CAN be dangerous, but there are other factors that could make not as life threatening as some make it seem. I take about 10 days to cut the 25+ pounds. Did it the same way for both fights and I'm a noob. Kevin Lee is a pro and he probably has nutritionists and coaches who follow his cut closely. I start the last 24 hours at right under 150. A couple training sessions, a miserable sleepless night, sauna session then weigh in. I go light on the last two sessions too. BTW I agree with toehold there needs to be some kind of weigh-in reform. Not everybody cuts in a healthy way.

Not everybody cuts in a healthy way. Yeah, I mean you know WAY more than me about cutting weight, shit, most I ever sweated out was 2 fucking pounds lol (that I'm aware of, I may have sweated out more than that training). Like I said, I'm biased towards what fighters I know say, which I think should be understandable. People pull all kinds of shit off, but I'm not sure it's safe. Plus, I'm just wondering if you and other fighters must get, like you said, a shitty sleepless night before the fight because you are pissing all night long from having rehydrated and having to piss it all out again? Doesn't that mess with your performance too? I mean the shit just isn't necessary anymore. I'm interested to hear more UFC fighters opinions on it and high level pros, as to whether or not they'd rather just weigh in day before. What my teacher keeps saying is that the logic used to be that fighters would miss weight if they did that, but they already are and so many fights are canceled for that reason. I tend to think people would learn quickly that they feel like shit fighting trying to cut more than a few pounds with the fight the same day, but I could also see people being stupid and cutting too much anyway and bad things happening. It's kind of like how in football there's padding and in Rugby there isn't: we might assume that playing without is more dangerous, yet casualties and death in football are WAY higher cause Rugby players learn they just simply can't hit that hard and get away with it, so they don't...whereas football players think they can hit as hard as they want with the padding to help them and get badly hurt. Sometimes more precautions, like the 24 hours to rehydrate, are MORE dangerous. Just a thought and weird analogy, but nearly every UFC my instructor is posting new status's about how bad this shit is, and since I don't know anything about it from my perspective I guess I'm just biased.

In the long run, there's no way any of it can be good, even if you do it right. Thats why I said I agree with you and your instructor's view point. I'm really on top my diet, and my cuts have gone smoothly. There's some fighters at our gym that will eat only hard boiled eggs for the last few days. For those guys, yes it's unhealthy and unsafe. Sadly, that's the majority, and same in all gyms across the country. Fighters will do whatever it takes to make that weight.
I'm for same day weigh-ins. Eliminate this nonsense all together.

I don't care if he breaks Anderson's record Anderson>DJ Period. My wife is a notorious Anderson hater and a GSP nutthugger. I just had to tell her who DJ was. I'll say she is a hair above a casual fan just because of her being my wife and being around during most of the fights I watch. But goes to show you how popular DJ is.

Pretty crazy how popular Anderson was. Non-English speaker (kind of), non-American, and he did it before everyone and their mama's had smart phones. Even my wife was an Anderson Silva fan. She probably wouldn't know who DJ was.

That finish was insane.
This should be a really Sick fight.
I love Ferguson's style yet he's so cocky part of me wants to see him lose, but really Lee is just as cocky.
I'd just like the fight to go at least like 3 rounds and see some back and forth action.
If Lee's not drained this should be great.

I have to admit; I've slept on Ferguson all this time. For some reason, I always saw him as another gatekeeper type TUF guy. A better Leben or Brown type that could produce fun, tough fights but will alwAys be a gatekeeper.
I think this is his first fight that I've paid attention to.
