Friends wife killed this hog last week. Damn, where was that shot? Antelope island, utah. They only give two tags away a year. One is a draw tag. The other goes to auction. This years tag sold for 400 plus thousand. She doesn't even like to hunt. My buddy just put her in as a joke cause it's a once in a lifetime tag and she just happened to draw it. Dumb luck really. There's been a lot of Giants killed around here the past couple years.

Another one killed in a different draw unit by a friend last year. Utah has some massive muleys.

Utah does have some monster Mule Deer, especially southern Utah. Look up Heaton Ranch and you will see what $25k can buy you once you get through the waiting list.

My understanding is out East they count up all the points. Out here we'd call that a 5X4.
Either way, beautiful buck

We don't count eye guards, so that would be a 4x3... funny how different regions do it so differently. We call 2x2's Fork en' horns or Forky's

While B&C is obviously the standard for scoring game, I think most people think their system is very flawed. SCI has a system that doesn't punish asymmetry and measures total inches. There are some huge deer that don't even make the book because of offsetting deductions which I don't like at all.

Never had time of year dictate success. Just alter the call depending on the year. When it's cold they need to eat (distress calls)... in the spring they are protecting young (pup distress and prey distress), in the summer they are starting to pair up (challenge howls and prey distress) and in the fall they are paired up (mating howls and prey distress).
The wind is the biggest factor when calling coyotes. They will almost always come to the call from downwind, so set up on fields where they have to expose themselves to get downwind. Put something out in the field about 50 yards in front of you that catches their attention... a decoy is common but just a feather tied to a string on the end of a stick works too.

I was reading an article about hunting them, well several articles and a lot of them are saying that in the winter (especially around February) that many coyotes in high pressure hunting areas aren't going to fall for wounded animal calls but will be more apt to check out a lady call.
