Make that money Kyle. Glad to hear it. Also, people will buy the best home they can...and then proceed to buy all the fancy shit to fill it up with. And of course, new home, new driveway...gotta get a new ride. That's where I find a lot of people get in a pickle. Meanwhile, I have mostly 2nd hand furniture that I've picked up over the year's lol. I just bought my first set of matching couches that I've ever owned. Fuck man if that isn't me. Now don't get me wrong, im not hurting. But I spent so much time accumulating "things" that before I knew it, I had to pay for those things. Which we do. However, we aren't really living if you know what I mean. Getting laid off in the near future really may be the best thing for me. I can spend time downsizing, decreasing my footprint now, so we can actually "live" in the future.

Not sure How I really feel about this: www.npr.org/2017/06/27/534443389/in-this-la-neighborhood-protest-art-is-a-verbIts a story about this LA neighborhood that is protesting the opening of art galleries and coffee shops so the neighborhood does not get gentrified. They are worried that eventually the current residents will get priced out if hipsters come along with the high rent prices, gastropubs and their bullshit 10 dollar cups of coffee. On one hand I feel like hey, this is capitalism, we can't stop people from opening businesses. But on the other hand I've seen first hand what gentrification does to a neighborhood. It pretty much replaces the local residents and replaces them with hispters and out of this world rent prices. It happened time and time again in NY. If you were lower middle class, you could at least dream of buying your own spot back in the 90's...now its out of reach even for upper middle class or whatever follows UMC, but not mega rich. Basically a 1 bedroom apartment will cost north of half a million bucks in a Brooklyn neighborhood where Biggie and Jay z were talking about selling crack in the 90's. But you can't stop progress, right? These people just want their neighborhood to stay shitty so prices won't go up..............but its hipsters, so I understand not wanting a bunch of pussies around. When the original residents of a neighborhood leave the area because its no longer a nice place to live, they call it "white flight." When people with money move into a bad neighborhood and make it better, they call it gentrification. So strange.

In NY for example, I just don't know where people are going. It happened all over Brooklyn, Harlem, Uptown, all these ghetto hoods turned into high price locations. Makes me wonder where are all those ghetto people going? My guess is that they are leaving NY. Same thing happened in OKC. Downtown was a sprawl of abandoned buildings, squatters, hookers, gang and drug activity . . . now it's upscale apartments, the OKC Thunder arena, indoor climbing, bars, restaurants, night clubs, etc. You can't cordon off an area and keep evolution out.

Going back to my Brooklyn example, right before my time, my mom tells me that the neighborhood was full of Italians and Eastern Europeans and they started leaving once Blacks and Latinos started to move in. So we sort of displaced that community.
I guess now their grand kids are coming back in the form of hipsters to displace the Latinos and Blacks. Man, its one big circle.

Looks like Merck was the victim of some ransom, international cyber hack. My brother was at work when his computer when gonzo, looks like they are asking for like 75 grand PER EMPLOYEE to put it back online. I don't know how it works or all the details, I just heard about it secondhand frim my mom this afternoon. It was hush-hush at first but looks like it is being reported now.
Thought it may have been the Chinese but now thinking it originated in the Ukraine. Scary shit going on.

Looks like it was related to the Wannacry attack (and the previous crytocurrency botnet based off it that wasn't shut down yet), which both seem to be a more globally organized group than a state party. The tools that designed the virus are NSA-originated though.

As soon as I wrote that I was thinking Jackel would know what the low down is... A bunch of the news reports said that it resembled May's attack (Wannacry), which was linked to the cryptocurrency botnets. Both of which were shown to be based off of NSA-designed tools, and being used by groups (both states and private) all over the world.

Put in a sell order for my Merck stock today. You're one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world. You make billions of dollars every year. But you know- cyber security. Who needs it? Answer: you did.
They aren't the only people affected by this though. Not by a long shot.
In my recent research regarding crypto-currencies I have uncovered speculation that some cryptocurrency has seen a dramatic rise in its value due to large corporations purchasing large amounts of it in the event that they need to pay a ransom.
I would be willing to bet that Merck was one of those companies. Going to be interesting to see what their stock prices at tomorrow morning.

And those things add up. If I'm having a good couple months, I'll shell out for something nice. But it's one piece at a time for me. Impulse buying, especially from your phone can really start to give you a nice credit card bill.

I'm most definitely an impulse buyer. I don't have a great deal to work with, but since I'm not buying drugs and booze and have no bills at the moment except a 60 cell Bill, I've been buying...well...bullshit...lol. it might not seem a lot to some of you but I've blown through 1500 since I've been here. Now I did but a new laptop since mine took a poo, but the rest is all shoes and clothes and nice meals, basically wants and not needs. I really suck at saving money. It's pretty much a lock that if I won 20 million I'd be one of those fuckers that goes broke in a year. Smh

If you win 20 million dollars CB, you dump that shit into ODIF.
The OD Investment Firm. We will move that money around and spread it into index funds, precious metals, and penny stocks. You can be given $1000000 a year and we can take the other 19 and turn it into 30 or 40 or 50 million.
In the event you relapse you will have to sign a rider that says you give the remainder of your 50 million dollars to someone else. Probably me.

Merck stock has not really taken much of a hit today. Funny enough but that's probably because if they are paying a ransom they are paying it in cryptocurrency which will not affect their overall bottom line. But I will say that it likely opens them up to a whole slew of IRS problems. Meaning that the stock might take a serious hit in five or six months.

Illinois is discontinuing it's state lottery because they spent all the money and can't pay the winners. Some estimates project the entire state will be insolvent in just a few years, largely due to pensions and project spending. How do you bankrupt an entire fucking state?

I invest my wife's money in corporate and municipal bonds so I naturally watch which states and municipalities are drowning in debt.
At least 10-15 other states are economic basket cases as well.
And to answer your question, just look at the fiscal policies of cities like Detroit (run by Democrats, just like Chicago, for decades) over the last half-century.
The main reason Gov. Snyder forced Detroit to go bankrupt four years ago was to prevent the kind of IL meltdown we are seeing now. Good call, Guv...

Well I think if they want to bankrupt an entire State all they had to do was follow the lead of one of their former citizens. I don't think his name was Abe. I think it was something like B-rack. He was real big on entitlements. If memory serves me correct the guy named Abe thought that one should be free and not bogged down by the government. I think that B-rack guy thought that you should be free to have your entire existence funded and run by the government. Seems like one of those ideas is a good one and the other one is really fucking stupid.

I had almost forgotten about this guy and his Islamophile parents. Despite obvious Obama administration interference -- leading to a baffling initial recommendation to NOT court-martial this coward/clown -- the Secretary of the Army went ahead and recommended he face one.
Now, YEARS AFTER HIS RELEASE FROM CAPTIVITY, that military court is FINALLY moving forward, with an added, enhanced charge. Justice is served despite behind-the-scenes efforts to thwart it, apparently....
Please, Jackel, none of your silly-ass troll opinions are required here. You already made a fool of yourself back on the old forum, claiming that Bergdahl's abandonment of his military post was "not desertion."
....Leading me to post the exact military definition of that capital offense in rebuttal. So spare us the usual contrarian troll-job, OK?
From Yahoo News:
BERGDAHL IS FACING LIFE IN PRISON AFTER JUDGE ALLOWS RARE MISBEHAVIOR CHARGE TO PROCEED
"The military judge overseeing Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s case says prosecutors can try the soldier on a rare charge alleging he endangered comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009.
The judge, Col. Jeffery Nance, rejected a defense motion on Thursday to dismiss the charge of misbehavior before the enemy, which carries up to a life sentence.
Bergdahl also faces a desertion charge, punishable by up to 5 years, at trial in October.
Defense lawyers said prosecutors used faulty logic to charge Bergdahl with a crime more serious than his underlying actions.
The judge acknowledged that case law is “scarce” because the misbehavior charge is so rarely used, but he said a soldier who leaves his post alone and without authorization should be aware he could face punishment."

This Berghdal case is like a metaphor for the entire Obama legacy.
Dipshit moves that the sycophant media propped up as being tremendous feats . . . only to see it all crumble into dust years later because it can't stand under it's own weight. Solyndra, Obamacare, the Iran deal, Berghdal, his Nobel Peace Prize which just seems comical now . . . these are all riffs on the same theme. Cultish adulation from a fawning media.

I'm trying ot remember what I said about it, but you summed up what I feel. They tried pressing lesser charges (desertion) even tough based on all evidence they shoulda gone bigger. Unless it turns out he was mentally ill (which as far as I remember no evidence shown). For all the shit President Obama did, the top two that need the most scrutiny in my opinion is his drone program followed by Solyndra. In the case of Solyndra it was just pure politics being behind the times though. Anyone with a basic fucking google education and understanding of solar tech could see that China was waiting to pounce and drop market prices. We see this all over though. California with their 400 billion/year universal healthcare when all legit study shows costs only 180 at most. Elon trying to claim Mars is 10+ years away when his money combined with current tech puts him at 3-4 years if he was willing to spend. Wee see this with the corn lobby, where dropping the ethanol mandate would result in lower gas prices, renewable fuel sources, more MPG, lower food costs, etc.... This is all evidence of a old fogies in office for power and power only.

A completely predictable observation from my news feed: Liberals hate the 4th of July, conservatives don't understand the 4th of July, and blacks hate everyone. I can probably tell you how 75% of my network voted based on their activity today. Many of my black friends are posting guilt peddling memes about what "their ancestors" were doing on July 4th, 1776 complete with shame-faced slavery dugereotype. You hate America. You hate white people. I get it. Anyone else getting bored with this yet? My smug progressive cunt friends are posting about how their hose pets detest fireworks and making snide comments about stereotypical whiteness and redneck Christmas and Native American genocide. You hate America. You hate white people. I get it. Anyone else getting bored with this yet? My dipshit cromag friends are posting about how badass the military is regurgitating canned one-liners about freedom that they couldn't unpack or defend if they had Christopher Hitchens on staff. You love 'Murica and you are white people. I get it. Anyone else . . . But what nobody is posting is what this day is actually about: Defiance. Disobedience. Bloody fucking revolt. A violent lashing out against tyranny and oppression against all odds and certain death to many thousands whom fought and indeed died nonetheless. That stewing resentment deep in your gut that forces you to act, finally, against a bully, against an aggressor, against those who would call themselves your master. The immutable instinct deep with mankind to be unbound, and to fight and even die in order to secure, ensure, and reclaim that inherent state of freedom and personal sovereignty. The beauty of righteous violence, creative destruction, noble death . . . of dying on your feet rather than living on your knees, and actually meaning it. One of the most tragic aspects of our culture today is that . . . we don't have a culture today. Very, very few understand, let alone value, what western culture and American culture is about. We've become shallow, petty, self-loathing lay-abouts who have grown soft and illiterate to the glorious traditions from whence we came, of which we are no longer worthy. I shudder to think what asinine tripe might spew forth were you to go out today and ask a fellow American what today stands for, what America stands for, and what our culture is rooted in. God help us all.

On the plus side, the likely outcome is basically America 2.0 based on a constitution that forces secularity, Missouri-style ground up type of legal system, and more democracy-based rather than republic based.
