Not sure if these specific facts -- regarding the number of times U.S. presidents have instituted travel bans in recent history -- have been mentioned previously in this thread or the Trump Presidency one. I thought it was useful so I'm pasting it in here from today's USA Today newspaper:

In an interview two weeks ago, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said that if people knew what he knows about terrorism, they would “never leave the house in the morning.”
Since 1980, 44 travel bans have been instituted by Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George Bush and Barack Obama — all for the expressed purpose of keeping the homeland safe.
President Trump’s ban is broader, but it is the first where the judicial branch has ruled against the executive branch.
When Obama instituted his first of six travel bans in 2011, he cited the same legal justification as his predecessors: the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. Section 212(f) of that law states: “Whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
Factions of our judicial branch have gone out of their way to override our chief executive based on partisan politics, not precedent. The battle over the proposed travel ban isn’t about unscreened travel from Muslim-majority nations; it’s about liberal activist judges and their partisan agenda for America’s national security policy.
Voters didn’t elect Donald Trump to passively defend the status quo that fails to keep America safe. We must applaud President Trump’s courage to act in the face of adversity within his first 100 days. He has held his ground to protect our great nation.
We have to ask ourselves, what is more dangerous to the Constitution? A chief executive invoking executive powers used 44 times by a bipartisan list of presidents without legal challenge? Or judges who use the power of the bench to enact a partisan political agenda?

Now, I don't have the entire text of the above-mentioned Immigration and
Nationality Act of 1952 in front of me....but I sincerely doubt that it calls
for exceptions to the President's authority if some wacked-out liberal courts
(Nutty Ninth, Fourth Circuit, etc.) arbitrarily decide that his order "drips
with religious intolerance, animus and discrimination" as the Fourth Circuit
wrote in its recent ruling.
Indeed, it grants the president the authority to declare any restrictions "he
may deem appropriate."
Activist judges? We need to legislatively institute impeachment/removal processes
for those that aren't already subject to them.

Hearing Comey say Loretta Lynch asked him to call Hitlary's investigation a matter, not an investigation, then remembering she scrubbed every mention of Islam from the 9-11 call transcripts and media reports after the Orlando night club shooting, and these are just the incidents we know of, would safely assume many more exist -- propaganda, narrative shaping, censorship in full effect.

My head of sales is one of my best buddies from college.
When we were heading home last night we were talking about indoctrination and how rampant it is in this country. He told me how a few years earlier he had found some of his old notebooks from our College days. He said it was absolutely ridiculous to read through it now. It was basically the white man did this, and it was bad. And then the white man did this, and it was also bad. Then the white man did another thing, guess what? Also bad.
I was curious if the same thing had happened to me. So I dug some of my old notebooks out of the basement.....Yep same shit.
My parents paid $200,000 for that shit?
Fuck that. Unless there is a big cultural shift in this country over the course of the next 15 years, there is no chance in hell that either of my kids are going to a liberal arts college.
Business or trade school. Or you pay for it yourself.
I will not be paying for gender studies, Anthropology, sociology, or any other worthless degree that carries with it an additional price tag of a hefty dose of self-loathing.
This whole racial tension thing that is rising up at a more significant pace in this country got me to thinking to back when I was a kid.
I remembered when I was signing up for Little League, my mom made me fill out the form. There were a bunch of boxes to check asking what your ethnicity was. The options were white, black, Asian, Spanish. ( it was the 80s. If you spoke Spanish then you were Spanish.)
But when I saw Spanish on there I was wondering why is Italian not on there? My mom's explanation was, "It just isn't. Say you're white."
Then I asked my dad about it. He told me all about my grandfather who was an immigrant from Italy. He told me about the racism that he endured. And the prejudices that he faced. Then he told me that my grandfather and people like my grandfather had fought for a long time to be accepted. But what they were trying to be accepted into, was the White race.
Okay so my ancestors fought long and hard to be included in the white race, and now being a white person is the worst thing you can be.
Because: slavery.
Yeah except my ancestors were literally on the other side of the fucking ocean eating pasta while slaves were a thing here.
This country is going to hell in a handbasket. And that handbasket is carried by retarded feminist liberals. They're not coming for equality. They're coming for the Lion's Share. And my position on that is basically: Over My Dead Body.

That was another part of the conversation last night. Both of us have kids that are about the same age and all this gender confusion bullshit is not happening in either of these houses. I tell my son that dresses are for girls. I tell my daughter that she should not try to stand up and pee like her brother does. Men and women are not the same. We need to stop trying to pretend that they are. When you've got kids in the 4th grade saying they're transgender, you've got a problem. And the problem isn't that the kid is wired wrong. The problem is that their parents likely introduced the concept to them in the first place. These kids are not even old enough to drink coffee- but their parents believe that they have enough self-awareness and emotional control to determine that they were ascribed the wrong genitals by Mother Nature? Give me a fucking break.
This whole trend of liberal parenting has gotten ridiculous.

No you insipid sack of shit. Your job is to teach those children how the world is and how they should best prepare to survive in it. Your job is to let them know that you are their parents and you are the only people who will ever provide them anything in this world for free. Your job is to let them know that the only people they should rely on to get where they want to be in life is themselves. It is not to teach them that the system is rigged against them and that they stand no chance of getting anywhere unless they are given handouts. And it sure as shit is not your job to offer them the option of switching genders.
With regards to all of these guys that are going over to the girls team and setting records and stomping the shit out of them at every sport- I say well done. This is exactly what has to happen. It has to be put right in your face.
The old adage that you never hit a woman is based on one simple fact. Women are smaller and weaker than men in the overwhelming majority of cases. Women and men are not supposed to be engaging in physical contests because of this disparity.
But here we are. D'tron Sassafras is now the state champion in the girls 400-meter.
When are we going to see a female who has transitioned to become a male participating in the sports of football, basketball, or hockey at the Elite professional level? LoL. Feminists. Suck it.

Who got shot over Obamacare? Who got shot over the billions of dollars we sent over to fucking Iran? Where were people rioting when Obama expanded the powers of the executive office in a very fascist way? They weren't rioting. What they were doing was organizing and applying the principles of our democratic government.
So instead of going out in the streets and starting a bunch of shit that isn't going to accomplish anything, they organized and began convincing people that their perspective was the right one.
Now the end result of that is that they control all of Congress and the executive branch as well as the Supreme Court. That is the correct response when you don't like the direction that your country is going in.
It's not to start shooting at people or like that fucking jackass who created The Wire instructed people to "pick up a brick."
It's also worth noting that when the left does engage in violence they do it in the most cowardly fashion possible. They hide behind other people, they swing bike locks. They put masks on like fucking cowards. They attack things that won't be able to hit them back like Windows. They set cars on fire. But eventually they square up to somebody and try to do it the right way. It is then that they get their shitty little ass kicked.
It's really sad that the six o clock news is now mostly dedicated to what Saul Alinsky would refer to as useful idiots. It's even more sad that they are continually given microphones and platforms to spread their bullshit.
