Thor: Rangnarok
Pretty good Marvel Flick. Good actions sequences and pretty funny. I think they overdid the humor to the point of being predictable and redundant. Took a little away from the movie overall.
8.5/10

Back to my non-Studio Ghibli anime movie binge. The girl who leapt through time Endearing main protagonist who discovered she could go back a few minutes or hours to the pa st and change the present which suits her. Not a really mind-bending plot. It instead focuses on friendships and coming of age romance. Subtle humor and emotional rollercoaster kept this movie chugging. 7/10. Children who chase lost voices from deep below The most Ghibliest from the bunch of movies I watched lately. It has a strong "Spirited Away" feel to it with a twist of Full Metal Alchemist elements. Could've been better but it fell short from reaching the full potential the world and plot could offer. Still an awesome journey. 7/10 The boy and the beast This right here is my shit. GREAT characters and a universal storyline of growing up and finding your identity. Mixed with some fight scenes, mythology and jaw dropping animation, this one deserves a 9/10 in my book.

They crammed too many story arcs apparently. The trailer got me all hyped until I saw a reviewer who knows his shit. They could've done at least 2 story arcs and leave it open for a potential sequel but instead, they apparently made a mess out of the material while leaving the ending somewhat open for a sequel that no one would probably want.

The Last Jedi- 6.5/10
Just didn't do it for me. Avoided spoilers, didn't even catch a trailer for it. Avoided the page on this thread of the talk about the flick. Just the way I like to go into these movies, oblivious to any plot line. Thought it was hyped up cheese. The sub plot for starters, feisty asian lady with Fin...wow was the bad. To the extent, I was willing to get up from my seat and take a piss during a Star Wars movie. If Fucking I, Tonya can hold my attention and keep me in my seat, shouldn't be asking much from a flick of this caliber. That chrome dome line is so bad I groaned out loud. I was actually rooting for the little asian girl to get shot. Laura Dern plays about the most god awful role I've ever seen in a Star Wars flick, sure, what she does is pretty fucking stellar, but the hot garbage of a story line here was just...bad. The small little "comedy" bits were cheesy and done way too many times. And...no Lando? Really? Del Toro's character should have been replaced by Billie Dee. Also, does everyone in Hollywood and England need a fucking cameo role? And...we get it...the whiter you are, the more bad you are. Have a bit on ginger in you and you get high ranking in the Imperial Forces.
Rouge One was fun. This was a death knell that was phoned in. I will say these are better then the prequels, but I think we can chalk a good piece of that up to finally having the tech and fx to really make these movies sparkle.

Black Panther 6/10
Well, I don't see what the hype is all about. Kind of a cheesy flick when it came down to it. As someone who read Black Panther when I was young, I feel like they pulled from the cheese of the comic and failed to pull from the substance. Wakanda itself looked cheesedick and hokey. Forrest Whittaker really phoned in a garbage performance as well. They fell flat with 2 of T'Chala's main bad guys...that's DC style right there. They did not really set him up as a strong ally to the Avengers because of what he can do, but more of what he can bring to the table overall. Felt like it was a push in the wrong direction for the Marvel Franchise and where they are at right now.

The Gift - 7.75 of 10.
Jason Bateman trying some serious stuff, and it kind of worked. He's believable as a hot shot ego maniac bully type. Some good plot twists. Not wild about the "bad guy" but overall decent.
Riverdale - 9 of 10.
It's a series, not a film, new on Netflix, and it's really good. It's very artificial and processed in it's look and feel. Very 90s homage vibe going on, replete with tons of cameos from people we fell in love with in Scream, 90210, Head of the Class, etc. Has a sort of Twin Peaks meets Clueless thing going on. Toeing the line between satire and tribute of 90s teen dramas.

The cameos are a walk down memory lane. Not a bad show to pass some time with.

Geostorm 6 of 10
I think this might have been straight to on-demand movie. The CGI sucked, Just overall not very good. I couldn't wait for it to end.

On a streak, 3 great movies in a row, I'm not sure how to rate them, but I sure as fuck enjoyed them.
Did a double feature of Spiderman: Homecoming followed by Thor: Ragnarok. Both great movies, Ragnarokis up there with my favs now among the Marvel movies. And tonight Baby Driver finally.
Spiderman: Homecoming - Finally a proper closer to comic Spiderman movie. A teen movie and a superhero movie, not something you'd expect combined so well.
Thor: Ragnarok - Got your action yeah. But HOLY FUCK did it nail the humour, and the cinematography. Interesting to see how they are going to play Thor's new role into Infinity War when he has the most screentime now. The final after credit scene with Jeff Goldblum may be my favorite yet.
Baby Driver - A fun crime caper, legit driving. The amazing thing though is just Edgar Wright's ability to match the scene to the music, the movement to the beats so exact. and a great soundtrack.

Alien: Covenant
Ridley Scott phoned in this written-by-committe piece of trash. Awful story made worse by shoehorned-in diversity every 3 minutes and bogged down by pointless, aimless, stupid scenes which should have been cut.
CGI gore didn’t look any more realistic than a 1960’s era Godzilla flic, and the new-generation Alien design looked fucking stupid. They didn’t stick with the original Geiger Alien that was so successful, but a reboot that imagined the alien made of aborted human fetuses and snot, and could only have been designed by a fag who hates humanity and deserves to die

The message was there but it was not overkill imo. Haven't been to the movies in about a year. Went to this fancy theater in Boca Raton with reclining seats, food and alcohol. So maybe that played a part in me enjoying it.

Spotlight
This had Oscar ties last year.
Also had a solid cast.
Told a story about a scandal whose subject was indeed worthy of being told so that kids could be protected in the future. Also detailed how one of the most significant events of our lifetime, sept 11, impacted how this story was covered and exposed
I get all that. But when I watched this film. And evaluated it - as a stand alone film - I found it a jumbled mess. None of the characters at the Boston globe were portrayed with anything that really drew you to them. The story of their investigation and the victims and peripheral characters that tried earlier to expose the priests abuses was meandering and could have had soooo many more emotional wrenching scenes. The “big twist” in the end was so muted.
2.5/5.
Anyone wanted to see a film that explores Priest sexual predators and the ramifications therein is highly encouraged to watch the Irish film Calvary instead.

Don't understand why it got hate on when it was first announced. It was a good little popcorn flick. Nothing groundbreaking but entertaining nonetheless. Doesn't take itself seriously and embraces the corny. Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and The Rock all do a good job. 8.5/10 Based on pure entertainment value. Not that I think it was an artistic treasure.

Watched The Prestige last night. 9/10.
Such a great flick in so many ways. From the editing and directing to the scenery to the actors involved. And the story...a nice little ride that may be one of my favorite flicks.

Watched The Last Jedi last night.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I probably had lowered expectations. A few things- I didn't care about the Finn-Rose love thing, like everyone else. I thought Luke was....fuckin annoying. Here he is, a Jedi Master who is STILL behaving like the confused diptard he was 37 years ago. When he marched to the tree and said that shit to Yoda I thought "Oh my God the last Jedi is like me! He has the ego of a toddler!" (Fuck you Floyd)(lol).
I thought the backstory with him and Kylo was really forced and a tad unbelievable because of how "um, ok" it was, and should have been given the time that Finn-Rose were given- because THAT would actually give this part of the story so much more depth.
They needed to do a better job here because this marks the part where the "old characters" can no longer be much of a crutch to get people interested in the story. And what in the hell have they given us to keep us interested in the third installment? Adam from Girls as the new Supreme Leader? A girl Jedi who only seems to be in the film because "we PC and we give girls power" ?
I hope that Solo movie is better than these have been. The third and final installment will be something I end up watching, but the hype for me over Star Wars is almost as dead as Yoda.

I watched Suburbicon last night.
Its about a husband/father (Matt Damon) trying to get over on a insurance claim. I guess its was also suppose to be about how racist people were in the 50ies. But that part of the story was really bad.
I wasn't able to make the whole movie straight, Meaning I had to pause it a few time just to take a break from it. Overall it was just something to watch, it wasn't unwatchable but at the sametime I didn't feel like I had to watch it. If that makes sense.
I guess I would give it a 5 of 10.

The Quiet Ones - 6 of 10.
Thought I was watching a quiet place, but no, it was this turd. Fairly standard demon/ghost possession flick set in 1970s England, university research project to prove/disprove the supernatural, nothing remarkable, a bit slow, don't care about any of the characters.
The Titan - 7.5 of 10.
Netflix film about engineered evolution to make humans suitable for life on Titan as the world spirals into uninhabitability. Not too bad, though I did think some of the CGI left a bit to be desired.
Ready Player One - 7.5 of 10.
Virtual gaming story, dystopian future, escape into virtual reality, a creator, a quest, pretty generic stuff, an RPG version of Tron, maybe, but the copious easter eggs and nostalgic references make it a bit of fun. CGI definitely on point, here.
Jumanji - 6.75 of 10.
Not great. Jack Black is ok as a reincarnated teenage barbie, the Rock is ok as nerd turned alpha, but the film overall is quite childish and flat. Expected more out of Kevin Heart, really. Not a great production, mediocre writing, clearly seems aimed at a teenage audience that will respond to boner jokes.

Lady and the Tramp
Excellent movie, animation on point, characters good. I liked what they did with background art during certain scenes, hard to explain.
8/ 10
The Lion King. Expected to like it as much as Lady and the Tramp, but it just falls flat. Animation left a lot to be desired. Storyline good, but not well thought out IMO, in terms of the way it unfolds. Maybe I was expecting too much but it looked like Disney built the movie around a boardroom table, dedicating all the budget to The music and voices and scrimping on the rest, including animation.
5/10

Is the Jumanji movie a remake or a sequel? Haven't heard much about it. More like a re-imagining. Instead of a boardgame, they get sucked into a video game. No connection to the first one other than the name and one Easter egg. Baph is being hard on it IMO. It doesn't take itself seriously and pokes fun at itself which I appreciated. It is made for teens n shit. My kid absolutely loves it.

Paterno
Pacino plays jopa in a flashback retelling of the scandal with the main guide figure being a woman working for the local small paper who has been investigating Sandusky for years.
It’s a story that has been pretty much told already. Nothing uncovered here. It obviously is very dark in the way it is filmed and Pacino does an admirable job of showing an old man who mumbles and deflects and plays “forgetful old man” and avoids direct questions on what he knew , who he told , and when. One word that sums up pacinos portrayal would be “regret”.
That said, this film was rambling. Not well edited. All peripheral characters are poorly acted.
I think most of us have made up our minds on this story and about what joe knew and when.
No need to waste 90 minutes on this.
2/5.
Deadpool.
Pleasantly surprised by this. The jokes were about 50 percent funny. Far far better than I expected. Some smart and irreverent digs atbthe superhero genre. Never read him. Will be interested in the upcoming films involving him.

Now I don't have much faith in test audiences, they are the biggest ones responsible for Networks butting their heads in and ruining what could be great movies, but even so, in general sequels don't score as high there.

A Quiet Place - 7.75 of 10.
Not too bad. Well acted, especially by the female lead, and a good, suspenseful slow burning horror film that did right what a lot of creature features do wrong. But, still, not a life changing film, even though it's well made and has a really good soundtrack/atmosphere. They hunt by sound -- to survive, live in silence.
