Could be. Was never explicitly clear to me. England vs Germany was about all I got out of it.

Rewatched the Dark Knight.
Heath Ledger made this movie truly amazing.
Batman Begins set the ground work for a gritty, mature, dark themed Batman trilogy. But Heath Ledger really set it in stone. His joker wasn't just a playful cartoonish antithesis to Batman. He was a mass murdering, psychopathic character that I dont believe anybody else could have pulled off. He is truly responsible for making the movie as great as it is. It is a shame that we will never see something quite like his performance ever again.
Don't watch The Dark Knight for Batman. Watch it for the Joker. That movie is defined by him.

The Mummy - 8 of 10.
3rd straight film where I came out surprised.
Alien: Covenant was worse than expected. Wonder Woman was as well. Then The Mummy over-preformed. Part of that is expectation going in, but still . . . this was really solid for what it was. In terms of the Mummy franchise and in the "Monster Universe" in general, this is one of the better films to date. Cruise never has an off day. Crowe is solid as Dr. Jeckyl. The Female lead is good. The story is a somewhat fresh riff on the old Mummy jam. Good blend of comic relief and action with some fun sci-fi, doesn't try to be epic or intellectual or get out of it's lane, just is what it is and does a good job of it. Just as a viewing experience, I put this above Alien or Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman - 7.25 of 10. Man, hurts to say that, but gotta call 'em straight. Granted, this is probably one of the stronger offerings in the DC universe, but for me it just pulled too many punches, almost to the point it felt borrowed, like some Thor/Captain America hybrid trying to steal the Marvel mojo. It works, it's proven, but I want to see DC cut its own path. Daring, risky, fresh . . . not this mash-up of the out of place Thor in the city who doesn't understand pants or cars (Wonder woman in London) and then the Captain America war hero bit (Wonder Woman in . . . the same war?). That's pure Marvel and I didn't care for any of it. Be YOU. The big bad was a bit predictable as well, and I didn't care for it, either. What did work was the back story, Diana's youth, and the Amazon culture, as well as some of the fun origin bits revealed about who she really is (not really an Amazon, strictly speaking). Wanted more of this, maybe an entire film of this, and less of the contrived platonic love angle with hunky Chris Pratt. I thought WW was fighting in WW1? Could be. Was never explicitly clear to me. England vs Germany was about all I got out of it. According to the film review I read, WW was indeed fighting in World War 1.

Most comic book movies I rate as crap, mediocre, or pretty good.
Logan was excellent. It was very well written and directed with good acting. 8.5/10

Mummy and Alien are both rekt to the point follow-ups are in serious jeopardy. We are likely entering a period where Alien franchise movies will be shelved for a decade like they were prior in the early 2000s. Alien's comeuppance I agree with; Mummy I'm not so sure. For starters, what do people expect, Citizen Kane? It's the fucking Mummy with a Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible vibe to it. It's exactly what I expected it to be an I enjoyed it. It didn't change my life, it's not a 9 of 10, but it's a pretty good Mummy flick as Mummy flicks go.

Masterminds - 7.5 of 10.
It's Pain and Gain with an armored car heist in place of a kidnapping for extortion scheme. Zach Galafanakus, Owen Wilson, etc. Ridiculous, Dumb and Dumber style comedy, which I personally enjoy, and this was a fun little ride. Forgot how much I like Owen Wilson. Can't believe this was a true story.

Thanks for the tip on Masterminds. I'm a big Owen Wilson fan as well, and I wasn't aware of this one. I'm sure glad he wasn't successful in his suicide attempt years ago......

Finally saw Midnight Meat Train. Clive Barker sure knows how to write them. One of the better horror/thriller movies I've seen in awhile.

You couldn't tell by the trench warfare, the uniforms, the crank style machine guns, the little old school tanks, or the fricken Wright Brothers style plane Chris Pine was flying? ........or maybe the lack of swastikas???

Before everyone takes turns going full Angelo, keep in mind WW1 and WW2 were in the same place with the same players about 20 years apart, and for thematic purposes in this film, it's essentially the same war 2.0
Germany is up to some evil, supernatural scheme, and the US/British with the help of a super hero thwarts their scheme. Which iteration of this plot vehicle we're driving seems fairly irrelevant, frankly.

Gal Gadot has got to be the hottest woman alive.
I pray to the hacker gods that someone leaks some nudes.
The movie itself wasn't bad. But DC needs to get it together with the main bad guys in these films. Can be done much better and I hope JLA starts to move in the direction of utilizing the vast amount of supervillains they have access to.

If you could put Gail gadots head on amber rose's body I might wank myself to death but I'll still take a 1978 Linda Carter over Gadot. Bigger boobs, for one, but it might be that she was my first true love at age 3-5. I was obsessed with her. I used to have dreams of being with her naked. At that age I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do, but I knew that I would figure it out if I could just... be ... with ... her... naked

I can overlook formulaic; I can overlook the heavy retread of Captain America's entire plot (character origin and then off to world war whatever to stop evil German scientist); but when you phone in the big bad like this it simply cannot be forgiven. Even if you want to stick with that concept, give me some better visuals. For example: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword did this effectively and, now that I think about it, took a very similar concept to a more successful destination.

I feel Gal has better facial structure, body and way cuter facial expressions.
Have you seen her in Keeping up with the Jones?

Shimmer Lake - 8.5 of 10.
It's on Netflix. Dwight Schrute's in it. Rob Cordry. Couple other dude's you'll recognize. Bank robbery. Man hunt. Small town. Conspiracy. Gay sex. The whole nine. Couple of really fun, effective elements, such as Momento-style reverse chronology and the writing and plot development played off that really well, and man, what a twist at the end. Nicely done.

Not a review, but some gossip, with mild spoilers regarding new Star Wars and likely final Alien film, so scroll on if you're one of those assholes who can't handle a bit of what ifs?
The Last Jedi is supposed to culminate in a Luke v. Snoke duel and the film overall focuses on Luke a great deal including combat scenes that highlight the extend of his legendary force ability, such as the single handed and effortless slaughter of the Knights of Ren.
The next, and likely final, Alien film, Awakening, will see the Engineers come back from gardening the galaxy to find their home-world decimated by David and the canisters, they then chase the Covenant down in a vengeful rage, only to find David has used the hibernating crew of the Covenant (2,000 people in hypersleep) to create an army of Xenomorphs, all out war ensues and the remnants of this war are what is stumbled upon in the original Alien film, including the iconic scene of the Space Jockey with his chest burst and the wreckage of the horse shoe ship (Derelict). One of the direct quotes from Ridley was that this would be a "War of the Worlds with 3-4 major players involved." Engineers, the Corporation (humans), and Xenos. For Ridley, now 80, this would likely be a final film, a final chance at redemption, and hopefully a crowning jewel to an iconic franchise spanning 40 years and seven films.
Also just thinking, if that's true, the Alien climax, the Game of Thrones climax, the Avengers climax, and the Justice League climax all essentially have the same story line. Strange bedfellows team up to fight other-worldly/supernatural foe.
