Comes in 5 pounds overweight. Apparently he is quoted in the past saying that he is a LHW fighting in the WW division, and that it should be illegal what he is doing, but no one can do anything about it. Durk a durk.

Haha. I’ve been saying for YEARS that weight classes are a joke.
You want it to be legitimate? Same day weigh ins. Force fighters to fight closer to their natural weight.

Changing the rules won’t do shit when the problem lies within lack of professional judgement and self discipline. Can’t control the human variable, and anyone who thinks that a simple rule change will fix all the problems is an idiot. Sort of like the whole gun control issue. If it was that easy to fix, it would have been fixed already.

I don't think they really need to do the change in the rules. Stephen Thompson seems to have solved the problem pretty well.
Till gives up 30% of his purse to Thompson, and has to weigh in again today and cannot way any more than 188 lb. If till is over 188 lb, there is supposedly going to be further negotiation.
So till screwed himself over and Wonderboy is twisting the knife.

Rumble was a FAR better LHW than he was a WW. It's never been as big a deal as people make it out to be post the Tito era. We will see how awesome "giant" Till is fighting a legit opponent like Wonderboy. The guy has ONE legit win in his life and Cowboy has a tendency to make people look awesome. The weight will only matter because it's costing Till a bunch of cash.
I also agree that changing the rules won't solve anything - we will still have fighters miss. "Natural weight"? Whats that? Every boxer and MMA fighter cuts weight and has for 100 years, but some cut a lot more than others. And for some it hurts them more than it helps.
Till has now missed twice. If he does it again move him to MW for 2 years.

But you know, if motherfukers just followed the rules, the USADA wouldn't exist.

And motherfuckers still take PEDs even though USADA exists... So if weigh ins are on fight day, what makes anyone think that all of a sudden fighters won’t still push the limits? My point is, that there is never going to be a perfect world, so continue on with the current rules, and punish as needed.

They might still push the limits, but not three weight classes worth.

People would die from cutting weight on fight day.
If a fighters misses weight twice, his next fight has to be at the next weight class. The UFC should make them.
What the CSAC is doing is not bad.
Hope Till gets smashed. However, all fighters that missed weight this year have gone on to win their perspective fights. It's definitely an advantage.

I could definitely see it being an advantage due to less energy depletion that a weight cut results in, but someone with the experience and endurance that Thompson has may be okay. We will see, if Till makes it look easy then I will credit it to missing weight.

There isn't much deterence to missing weight. You lose money, but you have a better chance of winning. The biggest consequence would be if you don't make weight, you don't fight. It doesn't make sense business wise, so it won't happen.

Coming from someone who has no experience in the fight game at all...weight cutting seems like the dumbest thing about the sport. "There is the 155 pound champ..hes walking around at 185." It just seems like a contest of who can come the closest to severely hurting themselves and then recover. I'm sure I'll get blasted for this post..but someone who has participated in a serious weight cut please explain to the rest of us what place it has in combat sports.

That’s pretty much correct. Weight cutting and weight classes are a joke.

Weight cutting has always been a part of combat sport. To answer your question, to have an advantage over your opponents. You want to be bigger than your opponent, it's that simple.

Does anyone run? Ever done a triathlon? Doesn't your weight change when you are training vs when you are not? If you can train and run a marathon and NOT lose weight, I'll call you a liar. It's really not hard to understand at all. NFL players don't weigh the same all year - they go up and down during off season vs in season. Same with MLB, NBA, NHL.
Size is an advantage in fighting, but it's not a guarantee of success. Plus, they all play by the EXACT same rules. For every Frankie Edgar at 155 there are 10,000 other people in pro and amateur MMA that are larger than Frankie fighting at 155. That's reality because they will size down as they train and cut. The people that believe MMA should be a bunch of Frankie Edgar fighting lightweight are simply not being realistic and not understanding how weight changes for athletes. Even same day weigh ins won't create the "fairness" you think you want and need. Might make some guys change weight classes but you will still have disparity.
I think Dana needs to move them up for X number of years or X number of fights when they miss (or miss twice). That will deter them. He seems kind of inconsistent in how he penalizes people.

If Till wins this fight, it will be interesting to see what happens the next time a headliner misses weight.
Fighters are going to stop taking fights against those who don't make weight.

The other fighter who missed weight this event lost...
To answer the question about why weight cutting is around in combat sports, well, it’s simple... the weight classes were created to keep people around the same size in competition. Weight cutting is not required, but it’s an option to the individual to weigh in at whatever their desired weight class is, so that means cutting weight would be necessary if they want to compete at a lower weight class to gain a size advantage. It’s a strategy that was likely developed after weight classes were originally created, and probably not considered very much at the time of the classes being created.
Training for a triathalon and losing weight.... likely, yes you will lose weight throughout the training, but not guaranteed. Weight loss (actual body fat and lean mass composition) is a product of energy expenditure. If you expend more energy than you consume (calories) than yes, you will lose weight. This is why many people start to run when they want to go on a weight loss kick. Problem is, when you burn more energy, your body craves more, so it’s very easy to make up for the burnt calories by increasing your food intake. I have actually seen people begin a cardio routine and actually gain weight because of this. This is where the discipline in dieting properly comes into play. Also, temporary composition changes are different than permananent. To lose real body weight such as body fat, you need to stay in a caloric deficit for a decent amount of time to lose any substantial weight, but to lose temporary composition (water weight), cleaning up your diet will instantly drop some weight by likely dropping sodium induced water retention.

Also, when a fighter wins because they come in a little heavier than the other fighter who made weight, it’s likely not the added pounds that give hem any advantage, but more so the fact that they are less drained and less fatigued. When you cut weight, your body loses energy as well as brain glucose. You are literally fighting at a reduced state than if you didn’t cut weight. That’s why fighters can find success at their natural weights, as long as the strength advantage isn’t too great for the other fighter. Energy, speed, reflexes, everything... will be greater without a weight cut. This is something that impresses me about Conor. I always notice how drained and depleted he comes into weigh ins, and he still performs at such a high level. He is a VERY skilled individual, in and out of the ring.

This fight is about as close as it gets moving into the final round.
I have Wonderboy up 3-1, but every round has been close.
Will the vet or the hometown kid get the call?

I think Wonderboy landed the cleaner shots. That last round was a close call. His leg was pretty bruised up. I give it to Wonderboy

Till will get the hometown decision. I’d probably have to give the edge to Wonderboy but I think homecooking will prevail.
What a technical pile of shit that fight was.

Tough fight to call.
I had 1, 3, and 4 for Wonderboy and 2 and 5 for Till.
Was damn close though. I kind of wish Till would have been more aggressive to see if he could have dominated Wonderboy or if he would have been caught.
