Title says it all. For me.
1. Casablanca - I thought this was just so pretentious film student hyped up, but became my favourite movie. 2. The Other Guys - I thought it was gonna be the normal Will Ferrell junk 3. Stepbrothers - same as above 4. Cabin in the Woods - Until I watched it I honestly thought it was just another throwaway horror movie. 5. 21 Jump Street (the movie) 6. Edge of Tomorrow - Outside of Groundhog Day, SG-1, Supernatural, and Eureka, most time loop things suck. 7. Easy A 8. The Accountant 9. Tropic Thunder 10. Stretch 11. Joe Dirt

Good topic
Tv-- downton abbey- watched it on wife's insistence; but really enjoyed the historical aspects of it People vs oj Simpson- found the espn series excellent. Didn't think I'd like the made for tv drama. But i really enjoyed it.
Film
Life aquatic with Steve zissou- thought it would be too absurd and not have the balance of warmth that the better Wes anderson offerings have. But the second time i watched it, i really enjoyed it and found it hit both ends of the anderson spectrum
Kick ass- was skeptical of comic book type offerings and skeptical of nick cage. Found it quite good.
Girl w dragon tattoo. Wife had read books. Knowing nothing of it, i didn't think it would be as dark as it was.
Love Liza- hidden gem with PS Hoffman.
Black snake moan. Preacher and troubled woman handcuffed to a radiator for two hours? No way did i think I'd enjoy it.
Smokin aces- went beyond cartoon sylized violence. Enjoyable complex plot.
Election- thought it would be another MTV type HS comedy. It was a very very dark film and the forerunner of many other similar films like Nebraska, about Schmidt, sideways, and many of the apatow stuff.
Lost in translation- Though it would be a simple romance. Went way beyond
40 YO virgin/ Superbad- both went beyond their genre boundaries and wil be memorable films for years to come for many of us.
State and main-
Ghost world-

Movies
3 Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri - awesome flick and I went in with mediocre expectations. Wonder Woman - thought they might blow it but it was surprisingly great Jach Reacher flicks - as an avid book reader, never thought Tom Cruise could pull off being a 6'5, 250 pound bad-ass Jack Reacher character. Yet, though tiny, he does. Colossal - low expectations, was very entertained Deep Rising - I don't normally like lower budget sci-fi but this had a great combo of cheesy and awesome to make it a great flick
TV
Humans. It's english and I generally can't stand english shows, but for some reason I really like this show and the B grade sci-fi

Edge of Tomorrow surprised the hell out of me. As did Burn After Reading, as it got tepid reviews and a lot of people said it wasn't good, but I saw it on TV a couple years after it came out and it fucking cracked me up and had me invested in what was happening to the end
Another one that I thought would be really stupid and too similar to every other comedy coming out at the time, but I ended up loving, was Pineapple Express

I'll agree with Edge of Tomorrow, watched it with the old lady thinking I'd hate it but really enjoyed it.
I don't watch too many movies so rarely do I go in thinking I wont enjoy something. That being said, I took my son to the new Jumanji thinking I'd be able to get a nap in if nothing else and really enjoyed it, Kevin Hart and The Rock are hilarious together.

Check out the book The Descent by Jeff Long. The movie doesn't give any credit to the book, but the premise is similar with subterranean human like creatures. Solid book you would probably like, if you enjoyed that movie.

Colossal I'm finally getting around to watching with Jess's sister this week I hope. Humans I had on DVR but lost, I have been meaning to actually watch it.

Bright. I don't give a fuck what critics said. It wasn't awesome or groundbreaking but it was a good flick that I enjoyed.

Can't really think of anything. Movies anyways.
TV show. I didn't think I was going to like Walking Dead. I didn't start watching until season 2. I liked it for a few seasons, but now starting to not like it.

I didn't absolutely hate Ally McBeal when my wife rifled through the series via actual DVDs a couple of years back. I didn't watch them all or anything, but I didn't hate them.

TV shows: Modern Family, Parks and Rec, and surprisingly, GoT. Movies: Hot Tub Time Machine, Superbad, Moana I didn't think I would like GOT either, pretty much why I didn't watch until the 3rd season or so. Fantasy movies and shows never really appealed to me until this one. Almost quit watching a few episodes in. Glad to say, very happy I stuck with it. Its my all time favorite show.

Fantasy never really, really appealed to me, and even when I was younger, I was very picky about the few examples of books/movies/shows in that genre that I would get into. GoT is now an all time favorite, of any genre.

Siesta Key
My wife asked me to watch it with her one night. I figured it would be stupid as fuck like Teen Mom, every season.
Instead, it was stupid as fuck, but with some hot bitches and scripted drama.
Overall, it's not terrible and I'm always rooting for someone to get cheated on.
