Not the same, but I certainly understand why they would give Cain an immediate title shot. How is it not the same? They run the UFC like it's the WWE and Cain is the only guy left. If he's training like DC said, he'll probably win too. Not the same because GSP's star power is gigantic compared to Cain GSP retired at the top of his game The Middleweight division was a joke The contenders for Bisping were endless But like i said, I agree that Cain is really the only option for Stipe.

But "star power"? GSP only got 875,000 ppv buys vs Bisping. He got 75,000 more back in 09. GSP isn't as known as you think. He was pre-Conor.

Compared to Cain - GSP is pretty well known. Back when he was the champ, Cain was averaging 300k PPV buys. That was pre-Conor.

GSP got the title shot even though he did not deserve it. He is not a big star. If he had kept fighting, he might be a big star. But he is not a big star. And neither is Cain.
But at least Cain is ranked at number four in the division he would be getting the title shot in.

He may not be as popular with the current generation of MMA fans, but he's easily the #3 or #4 biggest star who is active on the UFC roster: Conor Jon Jones GSP Nate Diaz

Who fucking cares?
Cain will get the shot. The ppv will be advertised as baddest man on the planet. It will likely do great numbers.

Sounds like a win win to me. They get the right undercard and it could do more imo.

How is Cain still ranked #4? He hasn’t fought in 18 months.

Prime Cain would be a horrible matchup for Stipe but we haven’t saw that guy in years.

Look say what you want but Cain is a fucking killer at sea level and on the second fight back after an injury.
High altitude and his first fights back are his cryptonite, ESPECIALLY WHEN AGAINST A BRAZILIAN!
Otherwise, stay the fuck clear and bring a mop... its gonna get bloody.

Shit. I don't know. I love Stipe. But every time I think about the HW GOAT picture, I cant help but wonder if its just a product of a rather thin division, like it had been in the past. (Tim, AA etc.). IMO, its still Fedor. Wins over roided Nog, Cro Cop, Barnett etc hold more weight for me than wins over Werdum, no chin having ass Overeem, and Ngannou. **that’ll bring Garth out I also don’t remember Fedor fighting Barnett. Did he? Also you said “Nog, Crocop, Barnett etc” who’s the “Etc?” Bigfoot? Oops. You spoke of a “thin division” and cited AA and Tim. Fedor did, in fact, fight those two (who also happen to be Fedor’s only finishes of HWs with winning records). The best fighter ever finished by Fedor? Heath Herring Fedor was good, but he sucks compared to Stipe, who has finished fighters who finished Fedor. He also ducked Overeem, who Stipe finished, and was finished quickly by Werdum, who Stipe finished quickly. GTFO with Fedor. You’re showing your age, like a guy who just turned 40 and insists Soundgarden was the greatest band ever. They were good, but...

GTFO with Fedor. You’re showing your age, like a guy who just turned 40 and insists Soundgarden was the greatest band ever. They were good, but... How dare you. I'm 36. And I'll just figure you read this post, went ape shit, and didn't read my second post where I said I may be wrong with my original assessment.

Has there ever been someone "in GOAT conversation" in any sport ever who's gotten as much free pass and excuses made for him as Cain? It still baffles me that anyone would have him even close to the GOAT. He's beat 3 fighters since 2011. In 6+ years he's beaten CTE riddled JDS, Bigfoot Silva, and Travis Browne. That's it. If Stipe does fight him, prepare for another angry/disrespected Stipe to beat the brakes off Cain. Even Sea Level Cain.

He's as much of a GOAT as he is a Mexican.
