Hard to say with only knowing you read GOTs. Also hard to come up with anything that compares.
Do you read the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child? Easy reads and entertaining. The Meg series (jaws style but with megalodons) by James Alten are entertaining (except for the last one which was weird).
These are NOT really series based and each can be read on their own.
Series based? Hmmm. Justin Cronin has a 3 book series starting with The Passage which is awesome, then the next two books are The Twelve and City of Mirrors. Post Apocalyptic with vampire type creatures. 1000+ pages each, I think. Great, great book series.

Was looking into James Rollins, and the SIGMA force novels.
The Passage sounds like something that may be right up my alley

Yes, if you loved the Stand you would love the Passage and that series. Also, you want to read Swan Song. It's almost like the dude read the Stand and then wrote his own version. But Swan Song by Robert McCammon is a must read if you enjoyed the Stand and I would rate Swan Song a little bit better.
BTW - James Rollins is also very entertaining. I read all the Sigma Force novels and many others by James Rollins, and they are solid.

Since you like King, have you read 11/22/63?

If you like Urban Fantasy (not the Young Adult shit, think grown up Harry Potter but more bad ass and poor), check out The Dresden Files. I can send you the full set if you want, including the short stories collection.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman is good, Americana Fantasy best describes it, it has that show on STARZ now adapted from it.
If you want sci-fi cyberpunk there is the sprawl trilogy by William Gibson - Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Overdrive, this is where classics got their inspiration, including Johnny Mnemonic (which was actually a short story in that universe by him.
Callahan's Crosstime Saloon by Spider Robinson. That's actually the first of three collections of short stories... definitely sci-fi, but not in your traditional beat you over the head with it sense. Take for instance the first story in it, what makes it sci fi is pretty much the last page and a half, that's it and it such a well done twist. It basically stories of what happens in a bar as told by someone who tried to commit suicide but the "bar" saved him. The vampire story is brilliant and one of my favourites to recall. After the 3rd collection, the author starts writing short stories set the bar owner's wife's brothel/bar.
Even though it is non-fiction, there is a fiction-like quality to it, Hemmingway's Moveable Feast.
Anyways if you want any of them let me know, I can send you a copy of any/all of them in any format you want.

I'm partial to Go Dog, Go.
But if you're more into cats you can't go wrong with The Cat in the Hat.

King is so great with his character development, that I felt like he owed more to the reads then quickly snuffing out more then half of the main characters in three paragraphs.

I found it the same way but honestly, King struggles with writing endings. I can think of a couple where it feels like he's written this amazing story with such great characters then gets a couple hundred pages in and goes "oh shit, how am I gonna wrap this up?!?" Duma Key, Under the Dome, The Stand, The Dark Tower and that's just off the top of my head. This seems to be common in a lot of his stories and particularly with his more recent ones, maybe the cocaine was helping him wrap it up back in the day? Did you read the unabridged version? That is such a monster book but a lot of the best parts are not in the original version.

The reason I think I am going to read the Passage next, is because I finished the stand wanting more. I think there could have been two more books there.
Easy for me to say, I know.

Based on the fact I really enjoyed your last recommendation I've got Swan Song on hold at the library now. I'm not sure you can call it a genre but dystopian/end of the world books are my absolute favourite.

Fox is doing a tv series based on it, the pilot is going thru some re-shoots and should air sometime this year. If you are looking for something else to read, check out the Silo Series by Hugh Howey. If you liked The Passage, I think you will like Silo as well.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen is the correct answer. Stupefyingly brutal.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen is the correct answer. Stupefyingly brutal. This right here. The Kingkiller Chronicles have been good so far, Name of the Wind was the first one.

Ever read The Alchemist by the Brazilian author Paulo Coelho?
Great book IMO, but you have to like highly symbolic fiction.
It's very "dream-like" in its sequences and pretty short, but it was a best seller.
