Did anyone watch his retirement fight with Aoki?
Aoki tries to pull guard and Ben hulk smashed him in about a minute. What's his legacy go down as? Is he really retiring or will we see him pop up in the UFC in a couple of years?

9 year career. 18 fights, unbeaten. Never fought in the UFC. He must had really pissed Dana off.
He is 33 now. Even if he signs with the UFC now, we are only going to see his decline.

His mouth and Dana’s ego combined to guarantee he never got his shot. Ben started out really boring at a time when Dana was weeding out boring fighters that were still legit like Fitch and Okami. When he started to devolop his offense too much had already been said between them to turn back.
Ben deserved his shot. I certainly don’t think he would have been a world beater but he would have been legit top10 or maybe even 5. He has developed some excellent ground and pound.
I hate it never happened for him because I only ever saw him forced to actually work for a win once against the crafty veteran Jay Hieron.

Ben Askren is a grappler who had been in a few wars if any. If he was a former striker with a bajillion fights I might agree with your post. Askren can fight with his style well into his mid-40s imo.

Too bad he never went to the UFC where he would lose.

Not days after he retires, he calls out GSP. That's the most MMA move of all time.
