OOO I really like this list.
I haven't seen Barry Lydon or Zodiac yet, I hate Wizard of Oz, but this is a very solid list, I can see the case for each of them on there.
On mine I'd have to have Blues Brothers, Kelly's Heroes, and Casablanca. I'd have the Redux version of Apocalypse Now, I love the feeling the missing scenes add.
I feel like I'd need to find a spot on there also for Jaws, and Dr Strangelove.

Shawshank redemption. Maybe, 12 years a slave. I thought it was good.
Can't really think of anything else that isn't already on the list.

Good list. Love seeing The Professional on there, thought it was fantastic.
The only one I can think of that I'd add would be Kung Fu Hustle. Thought it brought a fresh, unique style to its genre, had phenomenal action sequences, and a really good story.

Shawshank redemption. Maybe, 12 years a slave. I thought it was good. Can't really think of anything else that isn't already on the list. I had Shawshank originally and bumped it for Million Dollar Baby. It's probably #26 for me. Really super flick. It just came down to Hillary Swank out acting Tim Robbins, which she did, convincingly. Lots of stuff you "Want" to put in a list but when it comes down to it you just can't justify it. Stand by Me Fast Times at Ridgemont High The Wrestler There Will be Blood Dazed and Confused The Outsiders The Godfather II Casablanca Rear Window Taxi Driver Rumble Fish Snatch Die Hard Duel Into the Wild Shutter Island Kill Bill series Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Shawshank Redemption Full Metal Jacket Yeesh, ain't NO fun having to cut some of these gems from a list.

I liked Hot Fuzz. A lot. Not "top 10 all time" a lot, but a lot.

Yeah it is extremely hard. My top 10, especially my top 25 probably changes each day or depending on my mood. My top 3 are the only ones that don't change.

I would have a really hard time picking my top 25 movies.
There is movies that I liked but I wouldn't want to watch over and over. Like There will be blood. I liked the movie but if its on HBO or something, most of the time I wouldn't click on the channel to watch it again. But a movie like Sin City, I thought it was ok but I tend to watch it a lot LOL.
A couple movies that I watch when I see them on a pay channel The Green Mile Braveheart The Patriot Ray Sin City I know there is others but I can't think of them right now.

A movie that holds up to repeat viewings, and one of those comedies that while hilarious, also a commentary not just on the genre but society.

top 25 with no scorsese flics can't be taken seriously. Then make the case for a specific film or films and identify suitable targets for replacement. General statements about a director fetish get us nowhere.

top 25 with no scorsese flics can't be taken seriously. He's great, always does great movies but best in the world? He may be one of the if not the most consistent director/producers around, but I mean even look at IMDB's top list. The only one on their top 25 of his is Goodfellas, which while amazing movie is sorta overshadowed by Godfather 1/2 in the same area. If you did a top 25 of mafia movies, he'd probably hold 5 spots himself. If you did a best living director, he'd probably be a one or two spot, and he's probably #1 at adapting prexisting material (be it remakes or from books) for movies.

Godfather to me was always a movie about family to me.

I like Goodfellas more than Godfather 1/2 to be honest. i go back and forth. it's one of those things where whichever one i watched last i think is better. goodfellas has everything you'd want out of the epic gangster genre. phenomenal cast with incredible performances? check. easily pesci's best performance in a role that was made for him. i've always thought ray liotta was an underrated actor. he was very good in this movie (but my favorite role of his was in cop land). deniro? 'nuff said. lorraine bracco...the first couple times i saw the movie, she annoyed me at times. the more i watched it, the more i realized she was just playing up the character and while i don't think she was top notch, she was good. most of the other smaller characters were awesome with paulie being the best. cinematography? check. while the steady cam shot through the club gets a lot of play among film pundits, there are other classic scorsese scenes that are masterfully crafted. score? check. fantastic music throughout the movie with cream's sunshine of your love being the peak. story/script? check. scorsese has a way of telling epic stories in just the right amount of time. his movies have gone over three hours and when it's over, you never realize it was that long. goodfellas in 2 and a half hours again, was just right. he probably could have gone into jimmy conway's life a little deeper, but really, what would that have added? the story was about henry hill. you knew enough about conway to understand how/why henry ran with him. scorsese is the total package as a director/story teller and goodfellas was his piece de resistance. but yeah, wizard of oz was way better...

Unforgiven. Clint Eastwood's 1992 film?
Or did you mean The Unforgiven, the 1960 western with Audie Murphy, Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn?
The latter is an exciting tale of a frontier family desperately fighting off hordes of attacking Indians. Well worth a look, although I remember little of the movie....except that they melt down one of the men's toy soldiers (made of lead) after their ammunition runs out....

This would just be too hard for me to do honestly.
I could probably compile a top 25 list of my favorites, but they wouldn't be what most people would count.
But how do you NOT have any of the original 3 Star Wars movies in there?!?!? (And by "original" I mean the first ones made obviously...)

A top 25 personal favorite movies, no accounting for impact to film, genres, society, would probably look very different than this list for most people. There is a reason why when you look at most movie lists, overall or by genre you usually see extreme similarities but when you look a personal lists, about 1/2-3/4 of the list is different. Especially when you take into account genre preferences, ect..
