What part of the country do you live in? Do you have Eastern or Western coyote? I am asking because from what I have heard and read, Eastern coyotes have bred with domestic dogs or some shit and have become much smarter and in turn harder to hunt. I have a friend that goes out west as a guide and he swears it is true. If you live in the eastern part of the US, I was wondering if what you do to set up your hunt. Edit: I wrote this and thought, hey dumbass, where would NorCalKyle live? Lol. We don't have many coydogs here. The terrain makes it hard to hunt here, with not many open flat areas for calling. We really have to watch the wind and know the area well. Our state has decided to outlaw killing mountain lion and running bear with hounds... and it's basically illegal to trap or snare... consequently the deer population is a fraction of what it should be. That sucks. Coyotes are so bad in Virginia that they are open game 365 days a year. There used to be a bounty on them but I think it was getting too expensive to pay out and not really helping. Only advice I have heard is buy a thermal scope. Lol, I'm not dropping 1.5-ish grand for a hobby that I do a handful of times a year.

We have groups here that protest when groups organize coyote contests. This state is so fucked up and ignorant. They are wetting the bed in excitement because a wolf from Oregon made its way here. The more predators the better apparently... anybody have and spare grizzlies?

I'd say it won't be long until VA gets a hog problem like a lot of other states.

I'd say it won't be long until VA gets a hog problem like a lot of other states. Not sure how the climate is there, but if they can make it through the winter and have adequate food it wont take long for them to be a nuisance. The upside is they are fun to kill

This weekend is our last weekend of deer season... killed 8 bucks as a group so far on my property... which is about average.
Going abalone diving Friday morning and doing an abalone and filet dinner for 28 on Saturday night. The season always stars with a prime rib dinner and ends with abalone.
Taking a year off of elk hunting this year because I am in the beginning stages of building a new house and need to be around... realizing now how much I am addicted to hunting and eating elk.

Mission accomplished. Couldn't find any elk to save our lives but my buddy filled his moose tag on the last day. Can't wait to start cooking some moose.

I just started a new job last month so I won't have any real time to go hunting this year. I will get one weekend in November to go hunting in West Virginia but that is all.
I'm hoping to buy 30 or 40 acres of land this year and start hunting it next year.

I've been squirrel hunting 3 times already this year. I started out taking my cousin's son out on his first fishing/hunting day trip. Came back with a bag full of crappie and 3 squirrel pelts. (Fear not, the rest of the squirrel went to feed my dogs)
I've been twice with buddies since then. I remembered how much I really learned about hunting "sneaking" through the woods when I was 11-12 with my trusty Glenfield 60, picking off bushy tails. It's a lot of fun even still. I know a guy who buys the pelts for 2 bucks a piece, I ate a mess, and fed the dogs for a week with another mess. I might have even made a profit after ammo, with saving on dog food and selling the pelts.

Haven't been able to do shit since I got this new job. I'm heading to West Virginia now until Sunday to do some deer hunting. I'm just wanting to get something this year. Don't care about how many points or anything, just some meat. It will be fun to just get out.

If it's way off in the bush with no way of getting a quad to it then you gut, skin and quarter in the field and carry it to the vehicle. This one was shot right on a huge cut line so we just drove the quads right up to it and loaded him in the trailer. A good quad with a winch and a chainsaw can pretty much get to anywhere you want to go if work hard enough.

I ended up having a pretty good season, no big bucks but got 2 big freezer filling does. We all pool the meat together as a team and we ended up with 6 deer and a moose so a pretty good haul.
Moose meat might be my new favourite food, I have to find a way to get that tag more often. id only ever had it in chilli before this so I've really been having fun cooking all the different cuts. If you ever get the chance you should give it a shot

Hard to think it could get better than a cow elk, but I will find a way to kill one some day. What does a full grown doe weigh where you are? Field dressed.

Normally we don't weigh them but we took 2 does to the butcher with the straps and tenders removed and they were 84 and 94 lbs

Best way I can think of to describe moose is elk crossed with grass fed beef. Unreal good

Got a deer this weekend. It may have been as big as a Collie. I felt like shit after I killed it but she was like 200 yards away and I'm the only one in my family that eats deer SO BACK OFF!!!
But seriously, I did feel pretty bad for a few minutes because it was a runt but the eating is good. Just won't be much eating.

I don't know about where you are, but they encourage harvesting doe of any age in Missouri. It's important for population control.

Okay sad story time, I shot a Whitetail buck tonight with my bow...50 yard shot, thwack! He ran about 100 feet and just stopped and stood there for like 10 minutes. I was hiding and watching him through my binoculars. After the 10 minutes he just sort of walked slowly into the brush and (i assume) bedded down. I waited about 30 minutes and then went down the hill to track him. Searched forever at the spot I shot him and couldn't find any blood or my arrow. Finally I found the arrow about 30 yards from where I hit him, it was laying on top of the ground, not stuck in. I picked it up and examined it, no blood, just some awful smelling brown goop. If you've ever cut into the stomach/intestines of a deer, you know the smell... against my better judgment I went into the brush to look for him. Found him about a hundred yards in, and he got up and ran about 50 yards then stopped again. At this point it's very dark (no moon) so I abandoned my search. I could have kept tracking him, but chances are he would keep running. Very hard decision to make, but I feel that getting up before dawn and going to look will increase my chances of harvesting this deer as apposed to chasing him at night. Coyotes could get him though... I feel like shit right now. This is the first time I've not made a "clean kill" in my lifetime of hunting. My arrow must have hit to far back, and not gone thru the lungs, Fuck!!! Some people would laugh at me for making such a big deal out of this, and i know others would hate me for hunting at all. Bottom line is this animal is dying a slow painful death because I made a bad shot...
Hopefully i find him in the morning, I'll keep you guys posted.

That sucks man. My first ever bow kill was similar. It's a shitty feeling. Hopefully you find him this morning and hopefully you learn the lesson of not pushing too hard on a questionable shot.
You obviously have the skill and confidence of a good hunter if you took that shot. I know bow ranges are ever expanding, but I still won't shoot past 40 at the max.

Look in areas where they can lay next to water because it causes them to drink constantly. Hopefully it's cold where you are and you find him and he's not spoiled.

That’s always a shitty feeling. I got dogs just for this reason when deer hunting... sometimes you are just screwed without them.
