Anyone got one?
Thinking about getting one to use with my son. Seems more interesting than a kite.
Discuss.

I have one. It's pretty cool. Has a camera on it so you can take pictures of stuff from up high. Once I realized I don't really give a shit how things look from above, the camera feature stopped mattering.
I read an article about how some people are getting in trouble because they are using drones to look through their neighbors upstairs windows to watch them having sex. I thought about how if I did that I'd probably want to gouge my eyeballs out with a spork because all my neighbors are in their 70's and granny porn just ain't my thing.
They are great at helping you cheat at paintball though.

I have one. DJI phantom 3. My buddy modded his so it has a 3 mile range and can go 14000 feet high. As soon as I get around to it, I'll box mine up and send it to him for the same. It costs like $100.00

I've got a little one for flying in the house. Blade Inductrix. Way way funner than a kite. Dog hair getting wrapped around the prop shafts is a problem though...

If you willing to go the DIY route, look into doing a drone with a raspberry pi board. You save a fuck ton of money and can make one with farther range, and better control (and better camera if you so want), than most on the market for consumers. Order the parts, some soldering here and there, screws here and there, the programming you can download and flash over. Can make it a project with the kid even. Wind up giving it a paintjob that he enjoys and what not.

No, because there not only isn't there much money in it, but I don't know how to solder, much less have the equipment to learn, or the money to buy what needed for them in the first place. On top of which a lot of the programming you load over is non-commercial so I wouldn't be legally allowed to sell it anyways.

These are from a DJI Phantom 2. The new ones take way better pictures and videos I'm sure. We bust ours out on bigger projects.

New idea, you should start a website! excuses.com Fine, pay for lessons for me to learn to solder, and enough to make a dozen drones, and enough for a lawyer to overturn pre-existing laws so I can sell them, and I will. I'm not going to break the law to make money, especially in this case when it is maybe 1k/yr when I don't even know how to do them. These are from a DJI Phantom 2. The new ones take way better pictures and videos I'm sure. We bust ours out on bigger projects. From those pictures, that looks like a fucking good quality fish-eye lens for a commercial drone for 2-300$

The camera on that drone is the built in one from DJI.
I'd stay away from the GoPro mounted drone setups.

Sounds more like a fun project to do with the fetus and not a money making scheme.

At first you state the "if you're willing to go the DIY route, you'll have fun and make it a project even kids will enjoy and your drone will be way more awesome than drones you could buy. Yay!!!" Then when AGAD says "why don't you do it?" you talk about a bunch of knowledge, equipment, programming issues, etc. Exactly. Why weigh in with a "dude, you should totally DIY, it's awesome!" when for 99% of the population it's way easier / much more realistic to buy one. Or, if you're going to weigh in with that nonsense, why not at least preface it with "I know it's unlikely all of this applies to you, but if you happen to be very good at soldering, have the right equipment, and you understand something about the programming, you could turn this into a DIY project." The way you presented it, you sound like a know-it-all Jackel, saying "well, actually, the companies manufacturing and selling droids don't know shit, let me tell you about the awesome droid I could make if I wasn't so busy leeching off sporty..."
