I felt "old" for the first time in my 39 years existence last August while watching the MTV music awards. I didn't know the majority of artist performing or being given an award.
It happened again tonight watching the Grammys. Not as bad as the MTV show, but still, lots of people I've never heard of.

Gary Clark Jr was the only performance I enjoyed.
Music sucks. And this solidified why I can count on one hand, the number of current musicians I listen to.

I am admittedly not a huge music guy. I do generally enjoy at least some of all genres but mainly a Pearl Jam guy, mix in the best parts of other genres.
Why in the world are you guys wasting time watching the Grammy's or Oscar's or MTV Awards, or whatever else. Honest question. I mean I can't really stand the ESPY's even anymore. In any case, it sounds like you're on your way to tuning out, which of course would be my recommendation.

Megadeth won & they played Master of Puppets? I can't imagine how pissed off Dave Mustaine felt. Guaranteed he's the one who fucked up Hetfield's mic.

I tend to listen to a family of music that is largely not validated by a Grammy or even an MTV award. I honestly would not recognize several Grammy type assholes like Kanye or Beyoncé if I heard their songs and truly would not know who they were if I passed them on the street. Imo, most of it is formulaic crap that belongs in a Burger King ad.
I used to tolerate some of Adele and do like her bob Dylan cover, but her last album really sucks.
Most of the music that I enjoy is no newer than about 2004. I remember once while growing up, the news spread through MTV i think, that the Grammys were adding a "hard rock" or perhaps it was a "heavy metal" category. We were sooo excited! It would have been around 9th grade or so. Around 83-84. Iron Maiden had just released piece of mind. What would the cherished award be?..... we wondered and waited with baited breath. Then.... during the show they announced that the album of the year in this new, groUnd breaking category..... was some damn twilight of their long forgotten career JETHRO TULL album. JETHRO fucking Tull???
I've not watched the Grammys nor MTV awards since.
Don't even really watch oscars. Waste of time really. I do look up who the awards went to, and try to watch most of the key films each year. I have dvrd the Indy spirit awards and watched with ff impunity On two occasions.
I do like to dvr and watch the RNR HOF show. Again with much ff. But it is fun to see some of the multiple musician numbers that are put together.
But that's about it for award shows. Maybe it's some hidden passive aggressive patholgy rearing its head since I was snubbed at all the awards banquets in high school? Who knows.
