After a decade of graphic design, I'm thinking of giving up. My father is giving me an option of managing our farm out in the boondocks. Palm sugar production and aquaculture. My pop's is waiting for me to say yes. Im still under contract in my old company but im on vacation right now. I tried making it on my own for the longest time without asking for help from family. Im really torn with this, if production starts and we make just half of the projected income, it would still be a killing. I have less than 2 weeks to decide. Should i take the offer? I always hated urban aread but Im a total noob when it comes to managing people and farm/aquaculture.

I think you should go for it. Would you be able to bring the family, would it work for the kids?

Based on your history of posts that say that you are fucking miserable doing what you are doing, I think the answer is easy. Who cares if you work for/under your father... you work to support your family. Anyway you can do a better job is the right decision.

I would say take the job with your Dad.
How far do you plan on going with graphic design if you keep doing that? Working with your Dad would probably be much harder work and you'll work more hours. But your building your future with it.
What would you be happier doing?

I could still do freelancing on the side but pop's already indicated that its going to be a 24 hr operation. The farm would go to waste if no one is going to take care of it. Might as well be me.

No brainer. Consistent, reliable work, and you are the owner's kid who is managing which basically makes you the ruler of everyone on the payroll. Stop doodling on the computer and get that sugar to market.

Yeah, Owning a business has many many hours of working lol. How long as your father owned this business? If its been around for years and its stable. I would go ahead and take the job.
Best of luck to you.

I would take it in a heart beat. Spend time with your dad, make more money, disconnect from the world, be your own boss, enrich your families lives, etc etc
I think it's also great that you set your roots within this company now, so when that day comes to pass on ownership, there's no question who is the best fit to take over.
What province is it in? How far is it from a major city? What's the school situation like for the kids?

I can't really offer any great advice, but I'll try.... if you have a family with kids you should definitely make whatever sacrifice you can to spend as much quality time with them as possible as soon as you can. Time goes by fast and kids grow up quickly. Best of luck to you BoboPlata with whatever decision you make!!!!

It's my great aunt's farm that has been neglected. My father asked it from her to run.

I would be reporting to the main office, so im not spending time with anyone except with the farmhands. Farm is in Aklan, the province where Boracay is located.

Change is always scary, but once you make your mind up and go ahead with it, it won't be long before you wish you had done it earlier. Just dive in head first and don't look back.

Don't be a bitch. Man up and get your hands dirty. If I could take over my dad's established business, even if it is hardwork, if it had potential to give me a comfortable living and be with my kids, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Nobody likes soft, baby hands on a dude.
Wait, that last part sounded really gay. I wouldn't want to shake a baby smooth hand for a business deal and chicks dig working man hands. Does that sound less gay?

Bobo, but right now you work in another country, right? At least the farm will be in your country. Which will make it easier to eventually move your family with you.

Do it. Take that money, save it, be closer to your family and all along you can look for a better job in graphic design while you are earning. You aren't an idiot, you don't have an entitled POV, you'll wind up a good manager. The detail parts of the job your father should be able to teach you, and if you handle the hiring right, you'll have the right support.
Palm sugar is so fucking destructive, but it is secure money.

Nah, stay in Graphic Design so you can keep an office job and still post here frequently.
No need to get your hands dirty.
Real talk.

You realize they aren't devoid of technology over there and their average internet speed for non-lower class is higher than the US average? He can post here from his phone with no issue. He'll also be at a computer, with no boss looking at what he does like he's at risk for now... If he's good at his job, he'll in fact have more time to amuse your selfish ass.
