A high quality mattress can be a life altering experience. I have not found sleep number mattresses to provide a life altering experience. However, I have only experienced them at hotels and I have no idea if those were top of the line Sleep Number or just middle of the road models. I think the ultimate would be the bed with a luxurious mattress combined with the fully adjustable leg incline/decline/recline/etc capabilities.

If you have the money to get a nice mattress, go for it. It doesn't have to be a Sleep Number, but if that's what she wants, and you don't care, why not? A high quality mattress really does make a difference in how well you sleep.

If either of you have hip problems, avoid a memory foam mattress.

Fuckin buy a air pump mattress and tell her to get used to it. You got more important shit to deal with.

Speaking of sleeping in the couch, Daywork had a 20 thousand dollar couch. I am assuming he also has one of those high priced beds.

I have had multiple tempurpedic from medium with pillowtop to firm and ended up giving one to my kid and one to my brother. They were expensive. Then I bought a bed online that was supposedly the best for side sleepers, and it was uncomfortable but only about 2K. Now I have a medium memory foam one from Costco that is okay, but I still get sore. I am going to try sleep number because I figure I should spend at least 20K on finding a fucking bed before I land on one that is actually good. I'm at about 15K on beds since 2009.
good luck. And if you find a stellar pillow let me know. I have tried every pillow in the world as well.

One of the things I took from years of service.
I can sleep on anything. Ill spend 2k tops on a mattress, and that belter come with a box spring, frame and headboard.

Only piece of furniture I have that is really worth of shit is my bed.
I have a tempurpedic queen size in my spare bedroom, I bought it brand new about 5 years ago. It was the stiffest one they made. Im a big fan, my girl is so so on it.
In our room we have a king size...I forget the brand name but it's the most comfy bed I've every skept on. I'll look when I get home and post it. It was about 4k
For pillows, I like the thinest ones available, I don't like plushy pillows. I'm picky with my pillows and will hold on to one for year's longer than I am told I should. I don't sleep well without a good pillow and I don't like neck aches.

My dad got a sleep number bed before he deteriorated and said he loved it. He always had back pain and stuff but the Sleep Number bed solved it for him. I have a memory foam mattress that is firm, and I love it. It's firm as a motherfucker. Probably helps that I keep the windows open now no matter what the temp outside is. Woke up this morning to see that the temp in my room was a balmy 8 degrees. This makes the mattress even more firm.
I also use memory foam pillows but found that the softer they are when you buy them, the faster they tend to loose elasticity and start to suck. I got this cheap one ($25) about a year ago, opting for the ultra-firm contoured pillow and I love it. It gives proper neck support (I'm a side sleeper) and is just as firm as it was when I got it.
The one thing that always made me a little nervous about Sleep Number beds was that if you really start rockin the house with your wife, what happens if you pop the thing?
As far as your wife goes Peak, if you've got the means to get her a SN bed, get her one. You might like it as well. And maybe it even has a setting for "I don't fucking care, make it feel like a couch if you want."

But in all seriousness, a good mattress goes a long way. Improves sleep, helps with back pain. You can't go wrong forking up a bit extra, your body and your wife will both thank you for it.

I'm in the market for a new bed. Did you guys know it's really hard to find one that doesn't have fire retardant chemicals impregnated in the material? Like really hard. I could understand wanting that if I smoked in bed, but I quit That a long time ago.

I don't give a shit what I sleep on as long as the pillows are not fluffy. My wife bought us each the My Pillow from that child molester on T.V. Fuck those things, my neck has never been worse than the month I used that pillow.
Sometimes I sleep on the floor just to straighten my back out.

Used to have a shitty mattress, the wife and I bought a good mattress a couple of years ago. I can literally sleep an hour less a night now and feel better than I did before.

Memory foam. I love mine so much. It's hard for me to sleep on anything but memory foam now that I've been spoiled. They are heaven.

I can sleep pretty much anywhere, but getting a good quality mattress if you can afford it is great. Sometimes you don't realize what you're missing, and high quality sleep can easily be one of those things.

I could not disagree more with the OP.
Sometimes shit gets weird and I end up sleeping in my kid's bed, and it's fucking miserable. I toss and turn and wake up every 45 min all night. I'm exhausted the next day and cranky AF. When I sleep in my bed I actually sleep. I can get 7 hrs in my bed and feel dramatically better than getting 9 hrs in the kid's bed or a couch or a shit mattress like this fucking joke of a pull-out in the couch. I'm 265 lbs BTW this may be relevant.

Try out the bed first
No lay down for a minute and say yep!
I mean try it out.
Bring a book to read Sit on the edge and take off/put on socks and shoes (some edges are crisp, some sag- I hate saggy edges) Snuggle together- what happens when you are on her side? Look at your phone Lay on it in wrong angles. Bounce on it! You will be fucking on it, test out edge vs side spring.
I bought myself a bed last year and the expensive ones were shit for me (as were the cheap ones). Some that felt great initially (memory foam especially) quickly turned to shit for my body after less than 5 min.
I look around a lot, write down the top 3-4 after looking at online reviews, looking at actual warranty (not the bullshit that the salespeople will tell you)- especially the bullshit about having to buy the box spring as well. Ask to see that part of the warranty in writing- they won't because it doesn't exist.
Then I go back to the salesman and tell them I'll be at least 1/2 hour resting on the bed. Take your time, your body adjusts and day to day tensions change comfort levels- which is why I go multiple days.
In the end the best for me was a mid level bed that is coincidentally made in Canada and Chiropractor assn of Ca approved.
Good luck! Nothing like the first fuck on a new bed!

I have no idea if they are good or not but Casper will let you try their mattress for 100 days, and supposedly even pays the shipping to send it back if you decide you don't like it.

Lol, I've been sleeping on couches for 25 years. Every relationship, married, engaged, cohabiting, what ever, I always go to the couch.I'll snuggle till she falls asleep, then I'm gone. I can't stand being touched when I sleep.

It shocks me the markup on mattresses. Those $2k mattresses, the manufacturers sell them to the retailers for about 150-200 each.

Cool, lots of opinions.
I can't do memory foam because I get too hot.
I guess I will go look at the sleep numbers and see if they are the shit or hype.

I dropped about 2k on a sleep number two years ago. It's good, but it's definitely overrated. Waiting on my tax money to order a Ghostbed or Casper. Just depends who has the better deal when I'm ready.
