Brett Okamoto ESPN Staff Writer:
"Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is scheduled to fight Fabricio Werdum at UFC 207 on Dec. 30. On Jan. 4, he's scheduled to undergo back surgery. Says he's been able to train hard, spar, etc. but has dealt with back pain all camp. Relied on medical marijuana in lieu of potentially addictive pain killers. Marijuana is not a banned substance outside of competition in MMA."
BET EVERYTHING ON WERDUM!

Sucks too. Because Cain is the better fighter. But oh well, his body is just not designed for MMA I guess. . I don't think he's the better fighter, and if he loses a second time, which it looks like he's preparing to do, it will also prove otherwise. All these excuses say to my mind that he's not mentally ready and knows it.

I get the mentally not ready thing, in a way , personally I'd like to see the top ten in any division be ready to fight on such n such a date, blind draw, you pick a name you fight. No bullshit, no nothing, just be ready to fight. You win, You move on , next ppv, same thing, and so on.

Sucks that Cain is out. I wanted to see a healthy Cain against Werdum.
Even with Cain out we've got werdum, rothwell, JDS and Overeem all in the mix st the top. Lots of match ups there.
I've also always wanted to see Overeem vs Barnett and Werdum vs Barnet. Just a couple match ups that have eluded us for years.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Barnet vs a returning Brock in the future.

Nevada Athletic Commission Pulls Medically ‘Unfit’ Cain Velasquez from UFC 207 The more this crazy world changes, the more things in the Ultimate Fighting Championship stay the same. It was announced late Friday afternoon that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will not be fighting at UFC 207 after all. In a turn of events that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody, the oft-maligned Velasquez has once again been removed from a bout due to medical issues. Velasquez, who has suffered through a promising career that has been ravaged by injuries, was not allowed to fight next Friday night by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Velasquez was supposed to lock horns with fellow former champ Fabricio Werdum in one of the featured bouts of UFC 207, but the skirmish will have to wait. “Based on medical records, interviews and the best judgment of Chairman Anthony Marnell, attorney general J. Brin Gibson, the executive director's office and our physicians, in an effort to protect the health and safety of the athletes, it's been determined Cain Velasquez is unfit to fight,” a statement from the NSAC read. “The financial incentive for fighters to compete is strongly compelling, and it is the responsibility and obligation of this commission to intervene when excessive risks are evident. It's obvious Mr. Velasquez is physically compromised, and competing would place him in significant physical risk.” According to a report by ESPN, Velasquez has been struggling through back pain and had a surgery already planned for Jan. 4. He told the sports giant that he has had to endure pain that shoots down his leg and said that walking and standing for long periods of time causes him great discomfort. He and his team have stated that he is physically able and willing to go ahead with his rematch with Werdum, but the choice to pull him off the card was solely on NAC. The UFC announced on Friday that there will be no replacement opponent for Werdum to fight, thus removing the Brazilian from UFC 207 altogether, bringing the fight total for the event from 11 to 10. Cain didn't want this fight. What did he expect when he announced that he was undergoing surgery less than a week after the fight? if he really wanted to fight, he keeps that shit under wraps and then just does the surgery after the fight.

Sad.
Cain was such a badass fighter and for a while the best in the division and who knows what else could have been for him had he been able to stay healthy, but at least he held the belt.
Probably time for him to retire.
I mean he can't seem to stay healthy enough to fight anyway.

Cain's a pussy, that's really all there is to it. That, or he's a retard. Nobody should be getting hurt this much, this often, outside of competition.
So I wonder, has he been using this whole time, and his body is just breaking down quickly? Or is he the type of guy that won't fight with a sprained pinky?
