So, as some of you may know, I've returned to school for a new degree. It's pretty cool so far, and I think I *get* everything my profs are telling me lol. HOWEVER, and this is shameful, I forget how to write papers. This includes style and source integration and format...the works. Thankfully next week I have a 3 hour class dedicated to source integration/citing/etc. The bad news is that I have 2 papers (each worth 20%) due the following week. With everything else going on, that doesn't give me a whole lot of time to write papers worth so much of my grade. SO since these papers don't really need citing (they are both intended to explain political theory quotes, it's almost exclusively my own words) I've already written them and then will throw in any required citing after I fully understand how. But that still leaves me lost on if they are any good to begin with. Am I writing at the level I should be? Am I explaining it well enough to show I understand the quotes? That brings me to this thread... I'm hopeful that someone here would offer to be my sounding board. I'll send you the text privately, and then you can tell me if it's any good. You could maybe also tell me if I'm making sense, as in - do YOU understand the quote after reading the paper? My spelling and grammar are fine, I remember that much at least, so I'm not looking for a critique in that area. I just want someone totally removed to read them with fresh eyes. Any volunteers?

LOL. When I saw you had replied I KNEW you'd say something about not speaking engrish. I still died reading it though The first paper is described as follows:Each student will prepare and submit a 5 page paper that answers the following question: In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that “ if all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.” What is Mill’s justification for this argument? In Mill’s opinion, what limitations, if any, should there be on this right to free speech? What assumptions does Mill’s argument depend upon? Do you agree with Mill’s point of view?
The main goal of this assignment is to test your ability to independently read through, summarize, and interpret a work of serious political theory. The only resource needed to complete this assignment is On Liberty. In this light, secondary sources (such as SparkNotes) should not be used. This paper is worth 20% of your term grade. It is due in tutorial on October 5, 2016.
The second is this (2.5-3 pages in length):
Choose one of the following passages and write a response to it. In the response, you should both 1) explain the meaning of the passage in your own words, and 2) explain why the ideas in the passage are important to the broader argument of the philosopher.
Passage one: “Whatsoever therefore is consequent to a time of war, where every man is enemy to every man; the same is consequent to the time, wherein men live without other security, than what their own strength and their own invention shall furnish them withal. In such condition, there is no place for industry; because the fruit thereof is uncertain: and consequently no culture of the earth; no navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea; no commodious building; no instruments of moving, and removing such things as require much force, no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time; no arts; no letter; no society; and which worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.”

I would be contentious as fuck. Id call that liberal John Stuart Mill as the 1st cuck. College profs dig that style of writing.

Ha! I actually love Mill. I found that paper fairly easy to write, since his ideals are something I can get behind. The second quote is by Thomas Hobbes, who proposes that humanity is basically shit and needs a dictator with absolute power to control our shitty behaviour. It was easy enough to explain the quote and his broader theory, but I sort of wish I was writing an opinion piece on his work (called Leviathan). I could get deep in the weeds on his extremist views.

I'm not qualified to give you advice but to expedite the process, it's better to finish those papers before asking for opinion or advice instead of doing it line by line.

Certain political biases could come into play.

I hear ya. Thankfully the Hobbes paper is just an explanation. So as long as the explanation makes sense to a "layperson", as in - not in my course lol - it should be ok. The paper on Mill's theory does include some opinion, because the prof directly asks for it, but the majority is just explanation. I'd hope the academics on the site could overlook any discrepancy in opinion, especially since my TA - who'll be marking the assignment, must also overlook differences of thought. :$

I couldn't make heads or tails of what I was reading - I HATE old English. Thankfully my professors are awesome, and they've explained the content in a way that makes me understand it

I wouldn't mind reading your interpretation of On Liberty.
I can't believe 40% of your grade in so few pages though. It's weird, I sorta like that I can most of the work out of the way in just a few hours, but also might drive me a bit crazy since I'd feel like it had to be perfect because so little. Like doing a simple dish, so much easier to see mistakes.

However, your point stands because each course has 2 written assignments worth 40% total. That's a huge portion of my grades to not be as close to perfect as I can get.... :$

What degree are you working towards? Hoping to major in Political Science, it'll just be a Bachelors. After that, law school. Again, I hope, lol.

Ttt for help.
And a side note. Teenagers these days are vapid as fuck. I overhear too many conversations that make me dumber just by being close enough to hear them.
Also, you guys would love this part, I've seen enough 18 year old butt cheeks hanging out of short shorts to last an eternity. Seriously. I feel like a Paedophile just because I have eyes.
Anyways the 2 above complaints are why I've come here for help. My "peers" are completely untrustworthy.

They should be making people read Bax to combat the cancer that is third wave feminism. He was a goddamn socialist though so you really can't get a true winner when it comes to these things. All of the English philosophers of the mid 1800s all have glaring flaws in their ideas. John Stuart Mill was a cuck, as bobo said (perfect description of the guy, btw). Ernest Bax was about the rights of the white man but was socialist scum. George Henry Lewes is good reading and I can't think of his glaring flaw off the top of my head.

They should be making people read Bax to combat the cancer that is third wave feminism. But, like, my ass cheeks are nice. Like, everyone want to, like, see them. Fuck my life. I'm even pretty sure I've caught vag hanging out. What rationale could ever convince a chick to wear so little clothing TO SCHOOL? And why does no one tell them it's ridiculous to wear shorts that can't cover your va-jay-jay?

I've only read On Liberty, which was fantastic imo.

I'm a creep if I look at your ass hanging out of your shorts because WIMMIN? Fuck that, I am a monkey with a large frontal lobe. When I see that, I'm going to look at it. That's nature. These bitches needs to calm down on that. Either put your ass away or admit you're only wearing that so I'll stare at it. When did this start? Chicks just wear anything anymore. I can't really pinpoint when that happened but it's trashy as fuck.

If if the chick doesn't like it, then tough shit!! Maybe she should be wearing more fucking clothing then because any normal male is going to stare.
