I remember being in 8th grade and daydreaming about wanting to see Shamrock vs Severn before it had ever happened. ... So you were in 8th grade in 93? I was in 8rh grade in 92. Remember it Cuz it was around the first Iraq war was going on. We must be around the same age then (unless one of us got left back). I'll be 39 next week.

I was 9 when UFC 1 aired. I actually don't remember where I watched it, I think it was my Grandpa's place. Ton of family though, they were all interested in it because my Uncle was friends and worked with one of the founders (I think it was either Davie or Meyrowitz). Had a ton of swag given to us, I think I still have that old Mr. Clean looking hat actually somewhere. I remember we were so excited because the first event was supposed to be in Buffalo and we were all set to go but shit happened and it got moved to Denver but they said don't worry we'll have it in Buffalo soon. And while they did, sadly they made it so minors couldn't attend.
UFC 8 still has my favorite knockout. UFC 79 was the first UFC fight I didn't watch live. Close to UFC 100 though I've stopped watching most PPV live.

I known you a lot longer than that. When Shogun's career jumped the cliff.

HA Vera has never won against a ranked opponent. Talk about the longest carried on biggest hype ever. I like him, but he just isn't a fighter.

I'm 37 now. Been watching since UFC 1. Pretty sure we watched that on an illegal box my buddy's dad had. Miss those days!

First ufc I saw was ufc 3. Vhs copy at a buddies house. Loved it.
First live one I saw was the one with Tank and Ferrozo.
I used to just do the Vhs copies and I'd catch it on the Spanish channel from time to time.
Vera was fun to watch. Haters be damned.

My dad would take me to the video store every weekend-I'd get to rent VHS tapes in lieu of getting an allowance for my chores. So I was quite the pro wrestling mark then, and would usually rent shitty tapes like "The Best of Demolition." Well, the mom and pop place I rented from got to know me well, and the owner told me one weekend that he had just ordered a tape called "The Ultimate Survivor Series", and he'd let me know when it was in. A week later I get there, and "The Ultimate Survivor Series" was actually UFC 3. I'd never heard of UFC, and didn't know what it was. But I rented it anyway (moreso out of obligation to the guy), and fell in love the moment I watched it. The first live one that I orderd, I think, was UFC 8. That was the David vs. Goliath one right? Don Frye was my first favorite fighter....

Ah yes. UFC 1. Filled with some of the most diabolical ass kickers to ever compete. Just kidding. I could still win that shit.

I don't think winning UFC 1 with what we know now is much of a stretch for anyone unless you are just some small guy who can't fight.
As far as the most recent UFC:
Tim Kennedy should go to Bellator. Pettis should just retire because he's squandered every chance he's had, he would lose in Bellator just like Bendo does.
Cowboy is legit at 170 and should stay there. I know he chokes for the big fights, but I think he could put Woodley away if he saves the choking for another time.

I've been an MMA fan so long I worked my way from hardcore BACK to casual lol. That's what happens when you've been watching since UFC 1 LIVE. I remember being in 8th grade and daydreaming about wanting to see Shamrock vs Severn before it had ever happened. Think about that for a second... You from NY right? I remember renting VHS tapes from the local hole in the wall video shops in Brooklyn. Mid 90s. I've might not had seen UFC 1 right away. But I definitely caught it no later than 94 or early 95. So I been down since almost the beginning. Including the dark years when all you could get was some semi bootleg bullshit while they were getting banned all over the place. Remember them mom and pops VHS rental places? With the porn section in the back behind a curtain. 1 or 2 dollars for a one or two day rental and then they'll fuck you over with the late fees. This was years ago before blockbuster ventured into the hood. And even when they did , some of them blockbuster had to close down. People were pretty loyal to their local video shops mostly because blockbuster charged twice as much. Yup I remember all that and rented some of them also. I really miss those days to be honest and I agree, I mostly enjoyed ordering from the local shop more than blockbusters. I also remember renting Nintendo and Super Nintendo games. Kids these days who can download everything will never understand the joy of going to a video store and picking something out. It will seem like ancient history to them but I really feel like something has been lost. I mean sure, overall the internet has brought a lot of convenience but there's something different about the hands-on experience of renting videos and how it was an experience to go to the store and see what they had. Same thing with Cds and records: even with downloading I'm still a collector. I mean I do download a shitload of music but if I REALLY want an older album that came out before downloading then I purchase it on vinyl or cd because I just like that hands on experience of collecting shit. That's either something you get or you don't, but I think some of these young kids are actually missing out in a way on the kinds of experiences we had. I still have nostalgia for all that.

No I was in eighth grade in 94 but I was always one of the oldest in my year and was the same age as some of the kids who were a year ahead of me. I'm 36 so I was 13 in 93 when the first one happened in November of that year cause my birthday is in May. I feel fucking old lol. I actually still remember the little flyer coming in the mail for the PPV saying "Karate vs Jiu-Jitsu vs Sumo vs boxing vs Taekwondo" etc. I was a WWF fan and did Kenpo, Karate back in those days so I was super excited wondering what would happen and wondering if anyone would die lol. I wish I'd have saved it.
