I mean style wise, particularly in the stand up and not the ground game, what is it about Connor that makes him so hard to fight and just look so DIFFERENT from other fighters??
I think in terms of grappling he's just another guy who has rounded out his wrestling and BJJ, but what he does standing is just SO different from other fighters, and at this point in 2016 most shit has been done before so that makes it even more unusual when someone stands out.
Like it's not even that he's so good, because I think we can all argue that GSP for example, is probably equally good in his own way if not better, but he doesn't really fight DIFFERENTLY than other people.
But people like Connor, Wonderboy, Machida, Jones, SOMETIMES Anderson when he doesn't use as typical a Muay Thai style but fights more creatively, these are some of the only guys who do things where you feel like you've really never seen anyone else STYLE WISE doing things quite like that.
I think it is probably a combination of whatever style of Karate he has done in the past and his reach being long for his weight class, and whatever kind of "natural movement" stuff he does.
Like, he just moves differently than other guys in how he strikes with pin-point accuracy.
The way he lands his shots, with a sort of "one strike one kill" kind of thing reminds me in ways of a truly PRIME Machida, and also somewhat like Wonderboy or even PRIME Anderson Silva.
The whole way he holds himself when standing, his stance in general, his movement, all of it is not your typical Muay Thai/boxing/kickoboxing style.
Like if he'd never done any style of Karate (what style did he do by the way???) or just boxed and did Muay Thai he would NOT be doing what he does.
I also don't think his style would probably work all that well with big boxing gloves on, but the way he is able to land is perfect for MMA.
Whatever it is, there is something that makes him stylistically different from most fighters.
You could take his identical twin if he had one, same reach, frame, and give him all the same ground game and wrestling and TDD (which he's mostly using defensively these days) and plenty of boxing and MT, but he wouldn't be anything close to what he is.
He has good attributes, but it's NOT that either.
It's something else about how he moves, stands, reacts, lands, etc.
