Going shopping for a new truck tomorrow. Nothing fancy.
looking to keep it around 30k.
Anyone here have a truck? I'll mainly use it as a daily driver. Will rarely if at all tow anything with it. Doesn't need to be a 4x4 as I have a all wheel drive SUV.
I'm really like the new F-150 v6.

New? I just bought a 2016 Chevy Silverado. Manual windows, plain radio, cloth seats. Paid 24k out the door. Chevy's ride really nice. I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado LTZ z71, with all the bells and whistles. really nice truck. But you won't touch for 30k its a 50k truck I have a 2010 ford Raptor. Love it
I'm not big Dodge fan. But you'll get more extras on the dodge then a chevy or Ford. Toyota has bad gas milage.

I heard some bad things about the transmissions on them that scared me away.
But otherwise, yea im shooting for brand new.
At this point, the Ford F150 XL where I am leaning.

Let someone else pay that sticker price Tap. Buy something about a year old with most of the warranty left. If it has a clean carfax you should be good.
Those F150 are pretty sweet. Its crazy that they start in the mid 20s and go up to 75K. Thats a huge gap in options.

I've driven a fair number of Silverados and F-series Fords. I would never drive a Ford again, if I had the choice. Silverados are nice enough, really smooth ride and comfortable, but they're not flashy in the same way a Dodge Ram is, for sure. Almost like a bit of an 'old man' truck.
Probably out of your price range, but I'm driving a Tundra right now and it's the best truck I've ever driven. Mind you, I didn't have to pay for it, and I don't have to pay for my gas....

I agree with Premier... Buy a slightly used one and I also highly recommend the extended warranty... That shit is a few grand but they factor it in with your monthly payment and is no more than 15/20 dollars. It has saved me a shit load of cash, especially how dealership rape folks
However, buy a Chevy... You know what Ford stands for, right? But then again that's what the extended warranty is for.
Toyotas have the best resale value of any vehicle... Keep that in mind

TOIAP has a lot of experience riding in the back of trucks. When he gets picked up for the day in front of Home Depot.

You really shouldn't be purchasing anything that's mileage is under 40K, as that's when the engine is best broken in and tightest. Unless you really are all about the new car smell and all that other stuff, buying it off the dealer's lot brand new isn't the best idea.
I was looking at a Porsche the other day (not that I'd buy one, I was just curious) and saw that a 2016 was $105,000 but the 2013 was $70,000. The depreciation on those things is insane.
That aside, "it's your money, use it when you need it".
There are some pretty sweet deals for GMC Sierra's right now. I've been seeing tons of new ones around here lately. Other than that, I don't have a truck. And all my friends sold theirs. It's kinda stupid because now I need to buy a truck too, but I don't want to.

I just realized, he's probably at the dealer right now, buying a new truck. So, the post above is gonna probably not win me any favors from Tapout.

Talk about depreciation, those things are horrible. New Sport with supercharger was 120k, same year with 30k miles was at 79K.

Any of the luxury brands have insane levels of depreciation. Absolutely insane.
I paid like 20 for my STI, it's booking at 16 today and I only owe 4 on it. Only loses about 1K a year in value, because people want them and are willing to pay for them. I paid the same for my wife's X5. I owe 6 on it and it's only worth 5. Man. I hate that fucking thing. It's decent for what it's for, which is just hauling the family around. But I still hate it. Looking forward to getting something else. Just no idea what.

I have a 2011 F150 XLT 3.5L ecoboost and I just got a 2016 F150 Lariat 3.5L ecoboost
My 2011 has 130K miles, been a great truck with no problems at all. I average 19.5 mpg. I literally have 120 miles on the 2016, so I can't report on it other than the interior is a little bit nicer and it seems to have a better suspension system.
I am very good friends with the service department manager at my local Ford dealer, and he is about as knowledgeable as it gets. He has a bunch of 3.5L trucks with 200k miles and they are proving to be great motors with no inherent problems or bugs.
I paid $36k for my 2011 and $41k for my 2016... both new. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about either of them and most likely will stick with the 1/2 ton ecoboost as long as it's made.

Ford gets shit on but they last longer. At least the trucks, and at least the ones made from 85-95. My buddy, Chevy man, disputed this so we started counting proper and 20+ year old Fords seem to outnumber the same era of Chevy and Dodge put together and multiplied.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head in my experience Garth. Ford CARS are shit, but the trucks are pretty damn reliable. My dad is still rocking a '98 Ranger and a 2001 F150, both at about 300k. The Ranger is at 200k, the F150 is at 300k. No major work on either truck.

I've had Ford trucks my entire life and I haven't had a problem with ANY of them. They're well made, reliable trucks. I won't buy anything else.
My buddy, who is a Dodge guy, has problems left and right with his truck. He won't switch because he's prefers Dodge's styling. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
