Gruden is bad but is still 500x better than Phil Sims. Well, I mean, that's like saying a rash is 500x better than pancreatic cancer

Is anyone else as bored with NFL football as I am? It's pretty strange for me because I've watched it for literally a half-century and NEVER really got sick of it. I played a lot of sandlot football as a kid, loved it because I was pretty good at it, and went to Lions games in the 1980s and '90s. I never got tired of it until the last two seasons.
Every game seems similar to the others. Nearly every team throws 40-55 passes a game, and 85% of those passes are 6-8 yard gains released 2 or 2.5 seconds after the snap....running backs are just extra blockers, and the games all resemble Arena Football except that there aren't any side boards to smash a receiver into. Instead, the pussified flag-football rules about hitting "defenseless" players are sporadically enforced, with the exception of the quarterbacks, who are protected to the point of absurdity.
Modern NFL defensive coordinators seem to have still not learned that all the famed "Prevent Defense" is good for is preventing VICTORY. That slogan is at least 30 years old, but somehow lost on the new guys.
Don't get me started on the damned commercials. The halftime shows USED to have plenty of highlights, replays and updates on scores of games in progress. Now we get a few clips, then cut to Terry Bradshaw or Jimmy Johnson guffawing about something dumb. Then....four or five straight minutes of stupid commercials featuring politically-correct United Nations families or football parties, (all three races usually present, of course) all sitting around a living room, with the WOMEN going nuts about the game. It's hilarious.
I'll still watch the playoffs because I have bets on the conference finals and Super Bowl. I won't even turn on the Super Bowl, though, it's unwatchable.
Am I just a crazy old curmudgeon or are other guys getting tired of it too? (Okay, I KNOW I'm the former, but what about the second question?)

Well, the Jags fired the coach. Now we just need to fire the QB and move on.
The one bright glimmer of hope this team has is Jalen freakin Ramsey. I'm sure most (all) of you never really get to see Jacksonville play, but this guy is a stud. He's getting so much better every game. Hopkins ate his lunch in the first matchup with the Texans like a month ago. This time he basically shut Hopkins down. I think all but one catch Hopkins had was when they lined him up in the slot so Ramsey wouldn't be covering him.

Wow, I guess I was right about NFL over-exposure and my being bored with it. Nobody writes in this thread anymore; there must be some agreement.
But I've put a special Cyber-Curse on the smoke-and-mirrors Lions, so at least that will maintain my waning interest for the rest of the season. The Lions' loss to the Giants yesterday will be followed by embarrassing defeats by the Cowboys and Packers, leaving them out of the playoffs which is where they belong anyway.
Bet on it (admittedly, these predictions aren't exactly longshots).

I still love the NFL, but the ratings are going down so you probably aren't alone Cyber.

Yup. I've seen plenty of articles saying that ratings are way down.
Some blamed it on it being an election year. But Cyber is right. People are just bored.
I blame all the fucking new rules that are turning the NFL into the No Fun League.

The Cowboys' E. Elliot just got penalized for jumping into a huge Salvation Army donation kettle after scoring. The fans loved it and DONATIONS POURED IN!
Somehow the NFL sees this as a bad thing.
I'm surprised that the Lions' Golden Tate -- who ran over to a group of cheerleaders, grabbed a pom-pom and DANCED with them briefly under similar circumstances, wasn't penalized or fined too.
Goodell was probably too busy looking for further ways to f*ck over Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.

Wonder if Elliot's fine will be more than Roger's daddy John Mara's team, the Giants, will get for using illegal walkie talkies when their headsets went out. Which means they could keep talking to Ely right up to and even during a play

I read another article talking about how the NFL ratings are down-but not for the reasons everyone is saying. TV ratings are down across the board-everything was down. The funny thing is, the amount of viewership the NFL is losing is far less than most of the rest of tv. So the NFL is still winning, and more valuable than ever to television networks. They are actually getting a larger percentage of the eyeballs than they used to, even though ratings are down. Games are actually the most competitive that they have been since 1932, based on average margin of victory per game.
In essence, they were winning 30-20 before, and now they are winning 24-10.

Very frustrating, holding the Patriots to 16 points and we still lost by 2 possessions. The D keeps us in every game singlehandedly. Even if we were to make the playoffs, the physical toll that's been put on the defense, it's staggering. I kinda assumed the Patriots would be the collapse/cave game but nope, the D played their asses off and got a whopping 3 points from the offense for their troubles. Sickening.
Game before that? Mariotta had a total of one completion in the second half.
Our oline is terrible, but it's insane how ugly our offense has been, specifically the run game, and that's suppose to be Kubiack's forte? Two years in a row, bottom half offense. I'm not sure what changes need to be made, I really don't think Siemian is the problem either.

Oh you don't need to worry about me. 4 Superbowl wins is cause for a lot of smiles. You could have had the same, if you had just picked the Giants. But no.....you went with the.....hahaha.....the....JETS...bwahaha Oh man, I'm sorry. Was it your dad's team? Why did you that, exactly?

It's OK for the Jets to be losers. In NY we don't have to share one team with 3 other states. We actually have 3 teams in the state....2 in the same city. And one of those teams destroyed the hopes and dreams of you smug Patriot fans. And they did it without being constantly accused of cheating. 18 and.......1.

Why aren't you a Bills fan? Although the answer may be a joke, the question is serious.
Thought New Yorkers hated everything Jersey?

Because most people from NYC have never left the City. Yonkers is probably the furthest north people go. Buffalo is almost 7 hours away from the city.
I went to Buffalo for the first time in 2013 and I have called NY home since 1983 (my entire family still lives there, so I visit a lot). If Buffalo makes it to the superbowl, New Yorkers will root for them on some "Its still a NY team".
I have never owned any NY Giants or NY Mets gear, but of course I rather see them win than other team outside of NY. It's a party in NY no matter what team wins. Then you think of your friends and family that are true fans of those teams and you full on cheer for them.
In terms of size, NY is really tiny. It weird to have all those pro teams in such a small space. Yankees stadium is 9 miles from the Mets.
We hate everything Jersey (Fuck Newark). But people are just used to the stadium being on the other side of the river. Besides its only like 6 miles into NJ. You can still see the Manhattan skyline clearly from around that area.
