Anyone have any tips that I can do to keep snakes away from my house and yard? I just killed 2 snakes about 15 minutes ago. One was on my back porch. Not sure what kind it was, it was about 2 1/2 feet long. real thin, brown patterns on it and a long diamond shaped head. The 2nd one I almost stepped on while looking for my wifes cat that got out. This one was a baby Rattle snake. I killed a different baby rattle snake about 2 weeks ago too. My front neighbor killed a adult rattle snake about a day after I killed the baby.
I tried putting down that Snakeaway stuff they sell at home depot. I guess it didn't work since I found those two snakes today.

Same problem
Copperheads everywhere. One was inches away from my dog the other night, luckily she didn't see it.

I think copperheads are worse than rattle snakes. I think copperheads are more vicious, will go after animals and people quicker then the rattle snake. We haven't seen any of them out here.
If they were just rat snakes or king snakes I wouldn't care that much. Those snakes can't hurt you.
What sucks is, I'm having a pool put in now. So that's just going to attract more snakes.
Only good news, is within a month or so they will be all gone for the winter.
Maybe I can hire someone to go snake hunting around my house. My wife is still in the room crying think that a rattle snake got her cat. Its been gone all day. 1st time it ever got out.

Snakes were here when we were all crawling down out of the trees and they'll be here after we're all dust in the nuclear wind. Maybe you should show some fucking reverence.

I would be surprised if a snake got the cat... typically they will only go after things they eat and most likely the cat would have returned and shown signs of being very sick and swollen if it got bit.
If you can keep the grass/vegetation very low around the perimeter of the property that will help. Snakes don't like to cross areas without cover because they are vulnerable, so if you can keep things groomed way down it will help a lot.

I don't think a snake got the cat, the wife just thinks that.
I do keep my grass cut low, I tore out all the big wild looking plants the past owner had here. When we bought this place I knew there was probably snakes out in the woods. Just didn't think they would come up to my back porch or in the garage. I thought they would stay clear of people.

I have made about 10 barn owl boxes and they do work. It takes time for them to move in to them, but once established they are very beneficial. One tip is to put the boxes at the edge of the property because owls don't like to hunt directly below their nests

There was this a local owl about 4ft large that would harass the area, but finally is gone as of about 18 months ago thankfully. Owls are insane and deadly.

You can train your dog to fuck 'em up. We have copperheads here and my buddy has a coon hound that murders those motherfuckers all day. It just goes outside and goes snake hunting in the woods. It's never been bitten that I know of. It's really efficient at killing them, too.

Owls are insane and deadly. no they are not This I've hunted around owls and seen them here for years. Never had one do anything but run from me. They're great predators but they leave us humans alone. They're smart enough to know to do that. I don't get how an owl is insane or deadly unless you're a fucking rat or something. Other than that, they seem fine.

My neighbors little Chihuahua just got bit by a copperhead, fucked it up bad for weeks and $$$$$$$$$$ crazy vet bills.
I am not sure if copperheads in my area care about short or tall grass. When I saw it the other night, it was cruising across my back porch right when I let my dog out to pee around 9PM. I was standing at the doorway between the copperhead and my dog. My dog was busy looking across the yard for any opossums or armadillos and hadn't noticed the snake. The snake was curled up, mouth open, ready to strike. I knew I only had a second to make a decision. I knew if my dog turned around, she would see it and go at it. Thankfully I screamed "Bella go pee" and she went into the yard without turning around. The snake slowly made a 180 turn and slithered away before the dog came back.
My dog (weimaraner mix) is around 60lbs, so I don't think a copperhead bite would fuck her up too bad but still.

The river pad is the first place I've ever had to deal with snakes. Don't see many but they are there.
Only advice I've been given is to make sure to keep the grass low and if I arrive late night, to kind of shine a light and look around before just walking around in the dark.
Also, we keep everything up off the garage floor. Everything is hung or in cabinetry. I leave the door open at night while I am there

you fuckers need to move to cities .... I am actually in the city (Houston) but I have woods behind me and there is lots of development going on in the area. I actually like snakes. Just have to keep cottonmouths, corals, rattlers, and copperheads away.

you fuckers need to move to cities .... I'd rather deal with snakes than deal with a city. I get rattlesnakes quite often. Almost stepped on one in my garage last year, nearly shit myself.

Ive never seen a copperhead that wasn't close to a water source and some say if you smell cucumber pay attention, ive not noticed that. Rattlers years ago we hunted them. area i grew up in has large rocks, not car big, friggin house big, on sunny days they lay on top warming themselves. Normally almost everyone that's bitten it done so by just stumbling on to them.
As far as owls go, bout the least likely bird to be a human threat. Here our biggest is the great horned owl. Ive seen them fly through dense woods, no sound, nothing. One of the most beautiful animals ive seen naturally.
Also just astro-turf your yard 😉

We had some rattlesnakes hang out around our apartment area a few years go. They literally would just chill near GIR, was freaky as fuck.
