BJ Penn announces he is coming back to fight again and it doesnt even get a mention here today. I can only speak for myself..but my interest level in mma is probably the lowest its been since i started watching ufc 2. The constant canceled fights...fighters missing weight..fighting not to lose i think has finally takrn its toll on the "hardcores"

I had zero interest in seeing BJ fight again against these young guns. It was getting embarrassing and I was legit worried for his health. But him coming back against a grappling specialist like Ryan Hall? Ok, I'll bite. I like this matchup.

What are you talking about? While I'll concede that BJ is 1-7-1 in his last nine fights, I feel like for this next fight he's almost certainly going to have that look in his eye.

I heard he was going back to under water rock running! He'll definitely have that look in the eye... That look you have when you get punched in the eye!
Ryan by decision... And I like BJ but where does he go after this?

My interest in MMA is at its lowest point as well. A lot has to do with the shitty cards, the shitty new women’s steroid division, the unlikable new crop of champs like Woodley and Nunes.
I’ll watch the Penn fight if it’s on a free card because he and Shogun are two of my old school favs but he should have walked away at least 5 years ago.
I hope Dana puts pressure on Shogun to walk away as well since his win streak got snapped in crushing fashion.

BJ is just fucking up his legacy.
I truly felt sad the last couple of times I've seem him fight. Talk about not knowing when to permanently hang it off....
I still love MMA. But yeah, I probably watch 1/10 of what I used to. Just the other day, I made a post about some gal that I've ever heard of being a champ. It made me sad.
Just like everything else in life, things fall off and people move on. The future of MMA Is going to look like boxing today. Most will tune in for the big fights while some will hang on being hardcore fans.
I have a buddy that's a huge boxing fan. Even today, he follows new fighters and watch the obscure random cable channel fights. Reminds me of us during the TUF/Pride MMA peak. I didn't even know boxing was still a thing outside of the Mayweather/big name fights. But they still have their hardcore fans. Mma will be the same situation.

I blame USADA and also fighters that get the belt and then dont defend it. Everyones getting popped, and then when the fight happens, it seems people are fighting not to lose and just go to decision. The excitement is gone.

Din Thomas? Poor Din. He was really good and pretty far ahead of nearly all of the competition back then. But that BJ loss really set him back.
BJ also smoked Sherk with a knee at the end of the round and then declared himself the victor, which the ref bought. Is that what you're thinking of?

I am with James here
As much as I want BJ to just stop, I'll enjoy seeing him actually be in a fight where he will be forced to use his BJJ.
and like Adam said, MMA just hasn't been too exciting lately.
I will even watch Chuck/Tito 3 at this point. Yeah, I said it.
On a side note, Rory vs Gegard!

Penn is my favourite MMA fighter of all time, but I don't want to see him fight again. He's liable to end up brain damaged like Ali after his last comeback. You had a great career BJ, but it's time to stop.

This Shevchenko fight is a big part of the reason wby im not interested im mma like i used to be. You are headlining a NY show with a title fight between a legit fighter and someone who has one ufc win? And, who already forfeited a chance to fight for this title cause she couldnt properly cut weight. Oh and Joanna couldnt be bothered while she was on vacation in rome. Yep..time to go back to watching the redsox

Yep..time to go back to watching the redsox It's a slap in the face of Nate and Dustin... Not only will that be the best fight of the night. We'll all be left wondering how better of a fight it would have been if it were a 5 rounder. It's obvious they want Shevchenko to be the champ. Just on how fast they stripped Nicco. No way does this other girl deserve a main event at MSG, she's not even a main card type of fighter.

Dana hasn't announced Schevchenko as the main event yet. I think it will end up with Dustin/Nick being a five round main event and Schevchenko being a 5 round co-main.

I thought Shevchenko vs Eubanks (3-2 lol!) is the main event? Nope. Nothing is official yet as to what the main event is. Everyone assumed the title fight would be the main event but Dana hasn't confirmed that yet. Check out this tweet from Ariel:
