It sucks cause California is such a beautiful state. Beautiful coast, cites, girls, parks, nature... I think the positive outweighs the negative, or people would move. I'd love to live in California. I know a quite a few have moved but it's probably a very small amount of people. www.foxnews.com/us/2018/06/04/bay-area-exodus-nearly-50-percent-californians-say-want-to-move-out-soon-poll-finds.htmlThere are a ton of very redeeming qualities about parts of this state, but just about any place that is nice and has good weather is so expensive that it is just about impossible to survive on $100k a year. The problem is the politicians have been running rampant for decades and have made financial obligations to things that are just not sustainable. The state is the 5th largest economy in the world and is bankrupt (let that sink in). Want to and actually move are two different things. For every person that moves, there are two moving in. It's not cheap to live in a beautiful place. No one is lining up to go live in Nebraska. The politics are horrible, no doubt about it. Then you give people like this a platform to spew their shit. It still doesn't take away from what a beautiful state it is. There is money to be made there, people just don't care about the state of the state, that it's bankrupt. A good dose of reality would be wonderful. I just don't know exactly what would need to happen for people to care. The people bankrupting the state are the ones that don't care or understand. If you, yourself could move, where would you move to? Is that poll only the bay area?

Well when you already overspend by 20 billion in a single industry, and are asking for 200 billion more... yeah no surprise they are bankrupt.

Well when you already overspend by 20 billion in a single industry, and are asking for 200 billion more... yeah no surprise they are bankrupt. We are bankrupt because of the bureaucracy and wasteful spending that goes on here, as well as a massive pool of people who suck off the government tit. Environmental regulations and eco-warriors have made it impossible to do anything inexpensively and quickly. We have millions of people who are government leeches that will never pay. Our state has decided to spend $100 billion on a bullet train from LA to Bay Area (if it ever gets finished). The list goes on and on regarding how the liberal super majority has enacted decades of laws that crush business and eliminate any possible surplus in tax revenue. Here is a perfect example... the average price of a home in San Francisco is $1.5mm. Property taxes on each home average $25k a year. Sales tax is 9.25%. San Francisco also has a massive tech and financial economy. However they are fucking bankrupt and want to raise the tolls on the 3 bridges by 35% to help pay for public pensions.

If you, yourself could move, where would you move to? Is that poll only the bay area? Yes it's just the greater Bay Area. Not too far south and east of the bay area is pretty cheap... but those places are shitholes. I will never move. I have roots too deep here to leave. My business is not something I could run remotely, I have 2,000 acres that I hunt and vacation at that I absolutely love, and mine and my wife's entire families live here. My coping mechanism is to never go south to SF and spend most weekends an hour north with no cell service and nobody to piss me off. It is a really great place to live if you can have ways to stay away from the crazies. The weather is awesome, the scenery is very nice, there is every single outdoor activity at your door step, world class restaurants, very health minded people, and endless career opportunities for children growing up. There is such a long list of great reasons to be here that it does outweigh the negatives if you make $150k + and have the means to get away from the bad stuff. What most people that don't live here probably don't realize is there is a huge population of farmers/hunters/ranchers/cowboys/conservative people that live here... they just keep their mouths closed and do their thing.

I have a neighbor that grew up in Mendocino County. According to him the people there are by and large pretty "outlaw" minded and hate the feds, beyond just the weed thing. He said they are pretty socially liberal, especially compared to here, but they are small government "leave us alone to do our thing" type people. He made it seem more like a non racist and better weather Ozarks, as far as the culture.

There is a movement to segregate that area from the rest of California (State of Jefferson). A lot of Northern California is a hybrid of hippy/reclusive people who don't want to be involved in politics or be in a big city or hunters/ranchers who want to be left alone and not draw attention to themselves so they can continue doing what they like. The Bay Area, Sacramento, and Southern California areas get all of the attention, but California by geographical space alone is overwhelmingly an anti-government and fiscally conservative state.
