Not sure if you guys follow this stuff but I'm a HUGE true crime fan and for over 40 years people have wondered who "The Golden State Killer" (also known as "The Original Night Stalker" and "East Area Rapist") was.
The guy killed 12 people, raped at least 45 women and committed at least 120 burglaries in and around the Sarcamento, California area between 1976 and 1986 and then just suddenly stopped.
Just the other day police used a DNA sample from a relative to find out that it was almost definitely 72 year old former police officer James Joseph DeAngelo.
Fucked up that the guy basically lived his whole life without getting caught but at least they got him and I'm really interested in hearing all the info come out about who he was, how he got away with it, why he stopped killing and raping so suddenly, etc.
Supposedly he was a cop who was fired in 1979 for stealing a hammer and some dog repellant...wonder what he used that for...
He did some fucked up shit like tied up husbands putting them face down on the ground and put plates on their backs while raping their wives and saying that if he heard a single plate move he'd kill them, then would spend time just ransacking their kitchens eating shit for hours later while they were tied up, etc.
There's a pretty famous recording I could find later of him calling up a women and threatening her...eerie shit...
Like seriously, this guy was probably up there in the top 5 of most notorious unsolved killers with Jack the Ripper, The Zodiac Killer and The Black Dahlia Murderer.
It was really probably comedian Patton Oswalt's late wife Michelle McNamara who led to his being caught cause she was totally obsessed with finding out who he was and wrote a book a couple years back with all her leads and police definitely used it as a source to help find him.
She died a couple years back from heart and medication complications.
