Anyone else see it?
I thought it was great although I wish it could have gone even further into depth of some of the lesser known elements of his life but you can only squeeze so much into 90 mins so I guess what I really want is to read a biography about him but I'm not sure there is one, but if there's not there should be.
It included info about his upbringing and life in France, his general wrestling career from start to end with interviews with Hogan, Jerry Lawler, Gene Oakland, Vince McMahon, etc, his work on the Princess Bride with interviews with Cary Elwes and a lot more.
Man, could that guy ever drink.
He drank 126 beers in a sitting once, fucking nuts.
But he experienced a shitload of pain in his life because he was unwilling to get surgery to slow his giganticism cause he thought it would worsen his wrestling career.
If he'd got more surgeries it's possible he could have lived longer but he just said "this is how god made me".
He seemed privately like a guy who really just wanted to be normal and he often said that he wished he could have just one day a week in the body of a normal sized man so he wouldn't have to deal with so many people bothering him and could fit into normal sized places like airplane seats, etc.

Ok I hadn't seen that.
I wonder now if Andre might also hold the record for "world's heaviest drinker", even though that obviously is not a big part of his story, I just doubt many people have ever existed that could drink as much as him.
I also found it really interesting how they described how the wrestling world was prior to the WWF where there were like 50 regional promotions throughout the U.S. and the WWF was the first to really unify them.
I've gotten really into going on youtube and watching stuff I missed from the early days of wrestling, like no later than the 80s but also earlier than that like the 70s, 60s and even further back.
I have no interest at all in Pro Wrestling now but I was such a huge fan of it as a kid and it was only recently I really gained an appreciation for what those guys do and put their bodies through.
I mean to simply say "it's fake" is not a proper acknowledgment of how these guys are stuntmen, actors, gymnasts, body builders, power lifters, etc all wrapped up into one.
Those early days were really entertaining, but even though I haven't watched enough modern wrestling to know, I'm biased towards thinking it's probably all been crap since the early 90s at the latest.

Yeah i enjoyed it very much. As I said in the other thread, I loved the old school wrestlers and announcers commenting too. And yeah, even if it's fake, dude were genuinely scared of Andre. Dude could really hurt you.

I remember when I was a kid that I saw something on Andre. It is really fuzzy trying to remember but apparently he did go under the knife at least once but the problem was that the doctor had no idea how much anesthesia to give him because he was so big and drank so much. Not sure that would instill enough confidence for me to go to sleep under that doc, lol.

A friend of mine worked for the WWF back in the '80's and early '90's and has some great stories.
He didn't know Andre very well but was in his company for some restaurant outings. There would be a dozen or so people and Andre would always pay the tab. He told me that Andre basically drank a bottle for everyone else's glass of wine. He said Andre would go through a dozen or so bottles of wine.

There's this story in the doc about him passing out in a hotel in front of an elevator. No one could carry him to his room so he just slept there on the floor.

Lou Thesz said in his auto biography that they had to base how much anesthesia to give him hey on how much he could drink and when thesz said he could drink 126 beers in a sitting at first they didn’t believe him. If they gave hm too much he’d die and too little they’d literally have an angry giant on their hands, but they got it right. crazy shit.

I really enjoyed the documentary, it was fantastic.
I believe I gave a better write up in the Rate Your Movies thread, which is why God Damned Toehold should be banned from starting new threads.
