Hey, I didn't want to create this thread but I am obligated to. Did yoga for the first time this weekend. The positives were that it was at a brewery and included a free pint of beer postgame.
The principles of meditation, strength, and flexibility training are obvious. This was vinyasa yoga so it was pretty active. Ass, hammies, and core were sore the next day which is good.
I'm going to come out and just say it. I'm going to do more yoga.
Whether or not I think its really necessary to go do it in a group with an instructor every time is an open subject. Leaning towards no, unless it is connected to having a beer into some day-drinking. In all honesty, I actually think I may aspire to do yoga a couple of times a week with (gasp) my wife. She is experienced enough to lead us through a workout. Frankly, my 6 year old daughter could join us as well. She has done it at some figure skating camps and it has been reported she does great.
Thanks for listening.
Letting this thread die now will not affect my energy flow, nor my connection to the universe.

I'd be all about trying yoga for flexibility and endurance. My friend started yoga via private lessons and she made clear to her instructor that she wanted the exercise part of it, not the hippy-dippy "balance your chakra" part of it. She said her instructor was totally fine with that and tailored the lessons to what she wanted. That kind of thing would work for me. I'd have a hard time taking seriously the "open your heart to the universe" part.

My sister is a yoga instructor. Certified and all of that. And no. That bitch does not have a number.
I go through a little yoga routine two or three times a week. Usually just two. It's really good for maintaining flexibility and keeping your body generally limber. I do not go for the spiritual hippy-dippy shit, but the physical effects are obvious. It really helps keep my hamstrings from pulling on the muscles in my lower back and tightening them up.
Also, if you do it with your wife you can start trying to get her hamstrings flexible enough so that she can put her feet behind her head. If I need to explain any more from there.... you're on your own.

She was tall, thin, blonde, cute, had a good job and her own condo. Seemed like a decent idea. While I was considering the idea, friend's step dad did the hard sell, telling me she could put her feet behind her head. Not sure how he knew that or why he thought it was appropriate information for him to share about his step daughter. But it creeped me out. Not enough to turn down the date with her, though. Obviously.

Ya, that would NOT be something I'd be using to try and get a guy to date my daughter. Unless maybe he just decided- you were "the one", James.
And since someone else is going to ask you, I'll spare them the effort.
Did ya get to see if she could actually put her feet behind her head? Because I think that experience really makes a person a big fan of yoga.

I'm pretty damn athletic, although I am not black.
That being said, my flexibility is terrible. I have to stretch my hamstrings often or my IT band gets tight and I get pain on the outside of my knee.
Yoga seems like the obvious option to improve my flexibility, but I haven't found the time or desire to make the jump.
Plan A- James, does that cute, blonde bitch have a number or what?
Plan B - Tony, does your sister want a Canadian passport? Something tells me she does.
Plan C - continue my therapy of cold beer, weed, ice and ibuprofen after games.

Been doing yoga for about 7 years now and find it to be the most important piece of my routine. So many benefits, but i find it to be the perfect compliment to lifting heavy weights. I like to hit a 60 min hot yoga class right before lifting - this gets my entire body warmed up and stretched out.

I have a couple yoga poses from when i used to do MMA we had yoga in the sam e building and i used to go to keep me still able to move. Pigeon pose Childs Pose And Cat Cow
