Finally! Though I won't be convinced until I see Canelo actually step foot in the ring.
I think Canelo is the most overrated fighter of the last 20 years. We don't have many good fighters for him to face and the one time he fought a great fighter? Mayweather exposed him for 12 humiliating rounds. His wins over a shot Cotto and average Khan didn't impress me. He won impressively, but Cotto has never been the same since Margarita cheated and beat him with concrete gloves.
I hope GGG just walks through him and hurts him - like beats the shit out of him so bad Canelo has to retire. I work with a ton of Mexicans so proud of shitty Canelo and it will be an exciting time at work when he gets KOd. But, it's boxing and if Canelo isn't dead I can see the judges cheating like they did when he fought Mayweather and claiming he wons rounds he lost. If it goes to decision I could see them handing Canelo a win because, well, it's fucking boxing and it's still fixed.
Anyway, good fight and something finally worth watching. I'll say GGG KO w/in 8.

tough fight for me to try and forecast. canelo looked good against a stiff in chavez. GGG looked human against a very good opponent his last time out. some would say jacobs is better than any opponent canelo has faced with the exception of mayweather. also GGG is getting up there in age. he's 35 now. canelo will be 27 when they fight, pretty much in his physical prime. i think GGG wins, but i don't think he'll walk through him by any means. i hope he does KO him. then i hope delahoya runs in the rings and GGG tags him too. the way he's protected canelo and ducked this fight for years is one of the main reasons MMA > boxing. the way these guys avoid fighting each other is criminal, and when they finally do, one or both guys is past their prime (mayweather/pacquiao). best case scenario would be for GGG to destroy canelo and then GGG/Ward happens early next year, but that's a real longshot.

I'll be rooting for Canelo just to piss OC off LOL.
I really don't know who will win that fight. I just hope its a hell of a lot better then this Canelo vs Chavez fight was.
I agree with you Phreak that boxing sucks when it comes time to put up big fights together. Its odd that De la Hoya was protecting Canelo. I didn't care for De la Hoya when he was fighting, but I always respected him cause he was fighting everyone back then. Never seemed to shy away from a fight.

interesting. i thought it would be around -200. if you like GGG, now might be the time to lay down some coin. i can't see that line moving more toward canelo, but i can see it around -200 by fight time.

Nice. I'll have to go back and watch some old fights from each fighter before I'll make a bet.

You clearly just hate Mexicans because you probably don't have any ethnicity in boxing worth rooting for. You are a hater.

Man, Jacobs screwed GGG on that fight. He didn't care for the 2nd day weigh-ins for the IBF belt. GGG starved himself only to find out that his opponent is just looking for a way to get an advantage come fight night. He was after the name, not the belt.

Canelo beating a 35 year old Cotto is by far the biggest win of his career, but it's not a huge win. I hate Mexicans? I hate stupid people blinded by allegiance that are incapable of watching a fight and being honest. That bro is YOU and most mexican fight fans. I have an office full of people that claimed Canelo would beat Floyd and who can't admit the judge cheated on her scorecard. So yeah, they all know I root against Canelo. I also root against the Mexican national soccer team but live in a state where 85% of the population will root for them over the USA team. Canelo is a solid fighter in a era with very few solid fighters and he fought one great one, and lost badly. Go ahead and give your take on Canelo vs GGG - maybe you will finally be right and I'll be wrong. I will try and analyze any fight and give a prediction. Just like I did when I told you and others how easily Floyd would humiliate Manny and Canelo even though I think Floyd is a huge POS. Don't be mad little asian man. My favorite boxers of all time are Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran. I like the old school eras of boxing that were more competitive and they all fought each other.

Agreed on most points but please do check the very 1st thread here where I picked GGG over canelo(on top of your post). The latest GGG and Canelo fights didn't change my opinion one bit. Im not a big homer. I picked Barrera and Morales over Pacquiao. I watch objectively and give precise analysis as much as I can. And lol@ "little asian man", I'm a king amongst manlets. I wish it sounded cooler than in my head doe.

I wish it sounded cooler than in my head doe. Yeah, didn't change my mind either. I knew Canelo would whoop Chavez Jr and even though Canelo dominated him every round, it was something I expected. I thought Canelo had probably a 50/50 chance of finishing him or winning every round. Jacobs being able to handle GGGs power and box with him does solidify my belief the larger, more technical Ward would be too much for GGG. I would love to see it, but I doubt we ever see Ward back at 168 so it won't happen. You're probably a giant among little asians!

Jacobs didn't sent a memo to team GGG. He bypassed IBF regulations just so GGG would dehydrate himself. It was smart but pretty low. Are there any penalties for this kind of stunt?

jacobs declined to participate in the IBF's same day weigh in. the IBF requires that fighters weigh in the morning of the fight and the fighter can't be more than 10 pounds over the weight class limit. by not participating in that weigh in, jacobs was not eligible to win GGG's IBF title. all of his other titles were still in play as the other orgs don't have that rule. so the net effect was jacobs had probably twice the time to fully re-hydrate. certainly an advantage, but wouldn't make a night and day difference IMO.

Canelo will need to stick to a tight gameplan to beat GGG imo. He's gonna have to keep that jab out there, try to bully GGG into a corner or against the ropes and hope those judges are willing to give him the rounds. I don't see him beating GGG in any other fashion. I can see GGG getting a TKO later in the fight but other than that, I think this fight is going to be a little disappointing.

Wierd fight. Look at their faces. Neither one did damage. But it still felt exciting.
I watched with about 20 people. Half thought their guy won.

LOL a lot of people ragging on the fight last night. Making it a draw just to have a rematch, what a bunch of crap. And they called the Conor/Mayweather fight a "show" and circus. How was that not just a "show" when the real scoring will happen in the rematch?
So, how many PPV buy do you think this fight did? I thought I read some stuff that Canelo or GGG doesn't do very good on PPV ratings. Like 200 to 300 k.

GGG averages about 200k. Canelo did good with Mayweather, I didn't know how much the Chavez fight did.

The money is in the rematches

So was the fix on in the rematch. With Canelo winning, they can do a rubber match. The money is in the rematches I was barely watching but from what I could see, Canelo was pressuring GGG the whole fight. Canelo made him step back and eat bodyshots. The story of the fight is how do we judge a jab? It was there for GGG all night long but I gave it to Canelo due to aggression and the body shots. I was rooting for GGG too.
