Also had a hilarious reminder of how damn strong these tdf riders are. They were interviewing Greg van abermeart. Olympic road race champ. Asking him about the art of getting into a break and the team tactics that dictate what breaks are alllowed to be let go and which are run down.
He said basically , "I don't get into the team tactics of allowing breaks or not. If I want a break to start, I just merely get near the front and push 500 watts for 10-15k, then look around and see who is with me. That's how I get into breaks. Usually works".
I was rolling my eyes and laughing inwardly. That's seriously fucking strong!! "That's all he does ... merely rides near the front at 500 watts for 10-16 k!?!? ". Shit.... I'm a former multi time state champ. I'm a pretty fair time trialist.... and I'm lucky . Lucky... to hold 500 watts for one minute!....π

I think I've read some estimations that a 180 lb guy running a mile at6 minute pace is averaging 340 watts for that 6 minute mile effort . For context.

Another heat advisory and family duties in the early am. So rode trainer white watching tdf final stage.
2:05. 40.5 miles. London hilly circuit. Was to have kept it endurance pace. Went a tad harder and averaged 191. Felt great. Heart rate actually in q 130-140 for first hour ten. Cooled down cruising around block w my son.
Good 15 min post tidevstretch.
156.5 with no drop in power.
Washed and lubed the tt bike. Will mount on trainer this week
Gonna ramp it up this weekend. Easy week this week.

Had a 90 minute rode outdoors last Thursday. Rest Friday. Traveled to Colorado with one day stranded. Once there did get two rides in with 32-50 miles each. Each had roughly 3-6k feet of climbing. Two hour hike with 30 pounds on my pack at 10,800 feet altitude.
Hard rode yesterday 38 miles. Felt like crap after the travel.
Today had a damn good ride. 36 miles with 3x15 min efforts at 278-282 watts. Felt good again.
A good week. Hopefully the benefits of 4 days at altitude will kick in this week as well.

45 minute 14 mile trainer ride. First time riding the TIme trial bike in the aero bar crouch this season. Wasn't fun. Didn't ride hard. 181 average watts.
Have a month to get used to this new position and effort levels that mimic that of a 25 mile TT effort.
15 minutes of core strength work after ride.
Won't be able to ride much this weekend.
Two key efforts this week are a 60 minute sustained tempo workout with an increased target of 235 watts, and a threshold workout with 20 and 12 minutes of work.

1:20 minutes on trainer with TT bike. Did the mountainous route on line. Second ride on the TT bike. Spent about 1/4 the time in the aero bars.
One hour of This was to have been at sustained tempo . Goal was 228. I pulled off a 231. HR was higher than I would have liked. 165. But the positioning and the knees felt better than my first ride on this TT bikes few days ago.

Not feeling well. Have been sick sun- Wednesday.

Just got a 29'er today. Planning to use it into a touring bike. Would a jones loop bar be better than wide, gravel drop bars for long rides?

Went for a 14 mile road ride on my MTB with a buddy of mine who's more experienced. Around 5 miles of those are brutal hills. We took about 3 5 minute break and a 20 minute breakfast break. It took us 3 hrs to reach our destination. 3 fucking hrs for a 14 mile trip. I'm kicking myself for not getting at least a gravel bike. MTBs are a pain for hill rides.

Hopefully it was tasty for all the trouble he caused Oh yeah and this thread = a fail with no pics of Bobo in spandex cycling shorts.

An hour and a half just to reach jump point which was mostly uphill then the piece de resistance (for me) a 2 mile uphill ride with an average gradient of 8 which took me 26 mins to finish. I checked Strava's leaderboard. Number one for that segment was 10:34. Shit I'm old. I need to lose weight and a lighter bike.

I was stuck in a hospital for 3 weeks looking after my aunt. Gained 7 lbs and lost some of my hard earned conditioning. So I went for my first 100km bike ride. Solo. On an XC bike. Moving time was 4:42. I was hoping to finish in less than 4 hours as I was already done with the hills stages in the beginning and was at 25.7 kmh average at the halfway mark. Until I took a turn on the highway. The headwinds were bruuutal. I ended up at around 21.4kmh average. In hindsight, I shouldn't have lifted weights the night before as my lungs were more than adequate but my legs were just burning. The last 25 kms were tough and roadies were just passing by me. I really want to do it again on a road bike but I don't think my back is ready for it. I had to deal with compromising the geometry. If I extend my seatpost my back would hurt. If I prioritize my back and lower my seatpost my knees would hurt as I couldn't get a proper rotation. Planning to raise my handlebar a bit more with a 45 degree stem to alleviate those issues.

Got myself a proper gravel bike. First time reaching 44 mph on a bike. I've been bragging about it to everyone. Not to my wife though.

Really thinking about getting a 46/30 crankset as I do mostly climbs than flats. Fell off my bike when my left leg cramped up climbing back home. I usually get cramps on my right leg and their would be tingling sensation before it hits. Usually happens during sudden steep climbs. I just punch my right leg until it goes away. But this one, just hit me immediately while I was on the steepest part of the hairpin climb. Cars passing me by while I was lying down on the road punching my left leg to listen to me.
