Hell or High water. Yeah, it was a good movie. I wasn't blown away by it or anything. But a good movie LOL There was nothing on the other day so I watched that Deadpool movie. Not great by any means. Don't know if I would give it a solid good. I'll say it was OK. I didn't hate watching it. So yeah, I'll give it a OK Deadpool was great. I always liked the heels in wrestling. The assholes like Hughes in MMA and I just root for the bad guys generally. Deadpool was my favorite anti hero movie.

Ben Affleck is forcing himself to us with them action roles. I thought he did ok as batman. Much better in The Accountant as my review says in my previous post.

Daydream nation.
This was suggested based on my high ranking of requiem for a dream. Had been on my queue for a long time. Rarely get a chance to watch films these days. Thought I'd give this a go
Story is based on a teen moving to a small Canadian town for high school and finding a dark underbelly of drugs and murder. That's about as far as I got. Was absolutely unengaged after 15 minutes.
0/5.

Rogue One - 7.75 of 10.
A little surprised the reviews are as good as they are. Not to say this isn't solid, because it is, but it's a full 30 min too long with the editor showing an inability to be precise and focused during action sequences that seem to go on forever without adding much to the story aside from some visual 'splosion porn that's lost it's effect by this point in the film.
Also thought settings jumped around too much, too quickly, and the early part of the story was rushed instead of unfolding organically. Too fast up front; too slow in the end; punctuated by some truly magnificent scenes and an overall great story and, possibly, the best Star Wars visuals and CGI to date.
Final critique would be that interesting characters were not developed (the mother, the extremist mentor, the blind monk) while less interesting characters were given free reign to sulk around and soak up screen time (the director).
Now, with that out of the way, this is still superior to anything the old regime (Lucas and Co) put out since Return of the Jedi . . . hell, it's better than Jedi. it's better than any of the prequals, and it's got cinematography, atmosphere, and grittiness that shine through and give this a unique and effective feel. It's got easter eggs that are done RIGHT, meaning subtle, clever, and not ham-fisted in any way. Partial phrases where you finish the joke in your own mind because you know the history. Striking character similarities to VERY old films that put this thing in the "look and feel" of something that can bridge the "Revenge of the Sith-to-A New Hope gap" flawlessly. It's got a spectacular robot, in a franchise with famous robots, that rivals anything we've seen to date. And it's got brave storytelling. When I say this is a stand alone film in every sense of the word, I mean that, from rejecting Star Wars scrolling text intros and iconic score to how they handle their lead characters in the story telling. It's bold.
Seemed like a less fun version of TFA with a lot of similar themes and vehicles, and overall a second step in the right direction.
Disney has proven at this point that they're more than capable.
Franchise in MY preference order:
1. A New Hope 2. Empire Strikes Back 3. The Force Awakens 4. Rogue One 5. Revenge of the Sith 6. Return of the Jedi 7. Attack of the Clones 8. Phantom Menace

Going to see rogue one today. I don't usually go see movies, last one was the last star wars. I've seen every single one in the theatre so it's just kind of my thing. But before episode 7 I want to say that the last time I had been in the theatre was for Dark Knight. I fall asleep easily in those comfy chairs lol.
I've avoided all trailers for it. I have no idea what it's about other than I caught sone thing where it's basically between episode 3 and 4. Sweet. I don't like to know anything about a star wars flick before walking in.
Gonna make some edibles and go in thst theatre at stoned warp 5.

Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryThis movie did a couple things that were amazing. First, it gave us some of, if not the BEST, visual effects to date. While somehow also giving the perfect retro look and feel to make it mesh with a New Hope. And second, speaking of A New Hope, it connected those two movies so perfectly, with the help of said visual effects. You'll have to see it to know what I mean by that But it wasn't perfect Far from it actually. The entire first half of this movie was handled very shoddily. They way overdid the establishing of scenes and way overdid the music when introducing people. Just sudden, jarringly LOUD ass melodramatic score happening when it really wasn't warranted or earned. And the way the scenes were cut together was pretty bad. Just poor transitions that felt like "We're here; now we're HERE, and look at this over there; and hey now he's over here; but what about this HERE!" It wasn't until all the poor establishing of tone, characters and environment was done did the movie start firing and get good. And boy did it. I have never seen a Star Wars film or any film do space battles the way this one did. Also just the sheer scale. Of the Deathstar, the various structures on the planets and in space. The way this film conveys things like height and heft, when comes to say, ATAT Walkers, Star Destroyers, hell even that battle droid K.....whatever it's name was, compared to regular people And speaking of that droid, he was one funny son of a bitch. But not in goofball, puke-inducing, George Lucas has the mind of an 8 year old, Jar Jar Binx sort of way. But in a cleverly well written sort of way. They also eventually did a good job of making me care about the different rebels and the main character. Felicity Jones did a good job as the centerpiece character. Then again, she really wasn't the centerpiece. The Story was. It was all about filling a gap and connecting to that first film in the franchise They easily could have messed this up. And even though it felt like it was headed that way, man did they ever pull it off. The second half of this film was like a room full of imaginative nerds were throwing all their coolest ideas around and then they realized that had near unlimitted freedom and funds to actually do all of it. And the way this movie ends......HOLY SHIT!!!! You don't get much Darth Vader, but when do........oh man, I think I should leave it there. Amazing ending. Sticking the landing doesn't even to do justice to what they accomplished here My score needs to be segmented for this one.... First Half: 4/10
Second Half: 9/10
Last five to ten minutes: 11/10

Last five to ten minutes: 11/10 Solid review. Agree on most of these points. Want to comment on a couple. You point out the handling of scale and atmosphere, particularly in the final battle, and that's an excellent point. I would argue Rogue One brought us perhaps the best space/planet battle and the most realistic Sith fight of the franchise. Now, having said that, this film and this time frame is a gap in the Vader story, as far as films go, and his development was anemic. This is young, prime Vader. And while we got two of the best Vader visuals ever (bath and battle), we got little else in terms of his mind, motivations, etc. and that's a missed opportunity.

Then you have to say it is good by your standard of Super Hero movie, because you don't like them! It's my favorite Comic Book movie so far, and I'm a huge nerd for those. Your post also reminded me that yesterday when I was Christmas shopping for my kids I bought myself some sweet Deadpool toys that I left in the trunk. So I'm gonna go get those out, and I'll see you guys later.

I thought Rouge was better than all of the prequels and The force awakens.
Pats review nailed it. I did not mind the music, but...I was in a crowded theater with some fat fuck that smelled of vicks, booze and chewed popcorn. Highlight from him came when he fell asleep about 5 minutes in, kicked his face towards me and started blowing air in my face. So I loved when that music kicked up. Oh yeah, I was also reminded why I don't go to theaters. The unruly kids to the right of us that my girl had to shush a few time until I had to make a comment to the parents, they made that music a bit more welcoming as well.
I thought the movie was epic and cleverly put together the age old flaw in Star Wars: why the fuck would the death star have such a flaw hidden?
Beautifully done. Im liking far more than Force Awakens.

Just rewatched most of The Force Awakens.
7/10 - that may be generous. I think once you get past the cool nostalgia, it was kind of cheesy. Luke Skywalker, one of the most powerful jedi in the history of Star Wars takes 1.5 movies to get pretty good with the force. This chick closes her eyes and can read Kylo's mind when he is trying to read her mind, overtake Kylo's force grab, mind fuck a stormtrooper, and beat the shit out of a well trained Kylo. I get it, the force wad "awoken" in her but damn, there shouldn't be a movie after she meets Luke. She should be able to just close her eyes and make the entire First Order explode from the inside. The bitch was too OP for the films. Plus they were inconsistent with Kylo, he can force freeze laser bullets one scene and is made a bitch-made sucker in the next. Decent story, enjoyed the nostalgia, but inconsistency ruined it a bit.
Reservoir Dogs - 6/10
Starting to think Tarentino was always overrated. Don't like his stupid dialogue about Like A Virgin, the tip your waitress diatribe, and his post-modernism take on stuff. This shouldn't have even been a movie, it is like the Seinfeld of cinema. It is a movie about nothing. You rob a bank and.... nothing happens. Nothin? NOTHING!!! We just talk about shit over a half dead guy and then shit goes down.
Maybe I am just a pessimistic basted now, I don't know...

He doesn't post enough now so I have to pick up some of his slack. Besides, at least I listed reasons why I rated it lower.
Watched the Mechanic high last night. I am way too crit iCal of movies when I'm high in this shit so I won't review it based on that. Would have made a good Hit man movie (with Agent 47).

As someone who always preferred Star Trek, I'm really upset that Star Trek has fallen apart going the way of Michael Bay while Star Wars is actually being good again.

As someone who always preferred Star Trek, I'm really upset that Star Trek has fallen apart going the way of Michael Bay while Star Wars is actually being good again. I was impressed with one Star Trek movie, I think it was Wrath of Khan. Other than that, I've never been a fan. The original show I just never got into and the revamps like Next Generation or whatever just never did it for me. I have friends that love it, but I just never have been able to get into it.
