What do you consider the 'grittiest' part of your life so far? What have you done/been through that let you know you are who you thought you were?

Raising children. That little girl in my avatar is now 12, and my son is 15. Fun times!

That's probably a pretty good test, especially if you weren't confident going into having kids.

My first job at my uncle's pizza place. I worked there for years and was supposed to take it over when he retired. But my uncle couldn't deal with me not listening to him because I'm deaf so he fucked me over and gave it to his son instead. I grit my teeth and went to Penn State where they told me I was a poly-math. I took my newfound genius and proceeded to spend the next 15 years launching failed venture after failed venture until I convinced myself that I invented gastro pubs. I ran with that theme for awhile but all those plans failed as well. Mostly because every time I tried to go to work my 90 lb girlfriend would sit on me and prevent me from going.
But I never quit because I've got grit.

But I've been struck two more times since.

I wouldn’t know which years to pick. My life’s been relatively gritty. Enough that I count the blessings of living at a first world standard and understand that it could get a lot grittier. I have lots of good stories of my own personal grit but I don’t like to tell them without a third party witness, I.e. when an old friend comes around who was there. The internet is the worst place to tell them. Most replies will be to call bullshit unless it’s a story about humiliation.

You are right that any actual grit would definitely be met with skepticism on here. I didn't consider that, but should have been obvious. I listened to a podcast with some lady talking about grit for an hour and a half and it inspired me.
I feel like if you're honest about it, you can figure out a lot about someone's perspective through the question. But that ain't gonna happen, so touche.

I feel like if you're honest about it, you can figure out a lot about someone's perspective through the question. But that ain't gonna happen, so touche. You're asking for personal details in a place where personal details are the first thing to be used against a person when there is a disagreement. It's unfortunately part of the nature of this place. Stories that might make a person look good are discredited and stories that make a person look like a "chud" are accentuated. To answer your question, fasthands. It's not going well. I was about to close one of the biggest deals I have ever been involved with. If I had closed this deal I would have been able to retire early and spend the rest of my days with my inbred Pitbull by my side as I found new ways to infuse duck jizz into various meat and bread products. Everything looked like it was lined up perfectly and just when I was getting ready to hit the send button to submit the order the side of my building was struck by lightning and all of my equipment was fried. So obviously, the deal did not go through. But I'll keep trying. Because I have Grit. See? As much as some of us may like sharing personal details of our lives and discussing different aspects of it, this is not the place to do that.
