I did the meet. OK state championship. Won my class and my division. Squatted 550, bench 401, dead lift 606, body weight 217. Two of those will now be state records. Will compete again in July. Went way too conservative on squat as I had a brief stomach bug the week before that shook my confidence a bit, but in hind sight I should have trusted my training more and stayed aggressive. A 585 squat was there for the taking. Will attempt 595, 430, and 635 in July, which would all be state records in the open division for a 100kg male, and for a 40 year old to own those records is unheard of. Nah mean I did the meet. If I give you some cash, can you bring me back 2 of whatever you're taking? Jokes aside, best of luck on those records! Dig it Been hitting the gym and sticking to somewhat of a diet. Still not where I want to be but have shed a good portion of the unwanted weight I put on. Started doing sprints, which is something I have left out of my workout since my days of competing in Jitz. While at first I didn't miss those shits at all, after a couple months of them in there regularly, starting to like em again. Oh yeah Been hitting the gym and sticking to somewhat of a diet. Number of sprints done? Rest period? Holy shit there is a multi quote function

So it's been 3 months since I got out of school and I've used that time to start hitting the gym and getting my diet in order. Down 25 lbs already and I'm feeling great. That last year of school I really let myself go and hit about 190. I figure I probably have about ten more pounds of fat to lose, but I'm back in a size 32 for the first time in probably 10 years. Feeling great.
Also-I've never looked at food labels in my life, but I'm pretty horrified to see how many carbs I used to eat. Holy shit.

Don't demonise carbs mate, its all down to net energy balance and calories in vs calories out for managing weight. Once food is digested it all gets stored as glycogen, be it fat, carbs or excess protein, all ends up as glycogen and unused glycogen turns to fat, outside of protein for muscle maintenance your macro split of carbs and fats wont impact weight loss. I go low fat, low carb and high protein in contest prep but outside of that i go low fat, moderate protein and high carbs for gaining, maintaining only macro I bother tracking is protein, everything else then just comes down to calorie targets. Quality of food is something else though and what you eat for nutrient benefits will be important for overall health but macro splits me'h.

I'm one of those people that believe animal fats are good for your brain, so while I agree on calories in < calories out, I'd rather get more of the calories in from animal fats than from sugars, starches, etc. I'm not training to enter any contests, though, either.
That being said, a gram of fat is something like twice the calories as a gram of carbs. So you have to keep that in mind as well. I do feel more full when eating fats than carbs though. Carbs just seem to make me hungrier, and hence why I'd end up eating an entire fucking bag of pretzels. I can grab a stick of beef jerky (good stuff, not slim jims) and be fine.
